Albion Park, Saturday 28 December
Form Analysis by Darren Clayton
RACE ONE
An improved effort last start and an improved gate for this assignment can see DANIEL BOOM (2) make the most of his chances. Angled to the fence and making good late metres last start, he can press the button here to capitalise.
MISTER DOMINGO (4) burrowed through to keep them wide last start from the inside gate at Redcliffe and was trying to fight them off when holding 3rd. Runner-up five runs back he was not that far from GLENAEGLE VEE CEE three back and this is a race well within reach.
BRETTS RED (9) was sent forward from a wide gate last start and asked to sit parked when fighting gamely to just miss the money. Beaten a half-neck three back, he is in the mix.
MIDNIGHT CALM (8) was returning from a freshen last time out when eased from gate 6 and then facing traffic thereafter. He will be needing some clear space from this gate.
SELECTIONS: DANIEL BOOM (2), MISTER DOMINGO (4), BRETTS RED (9), MIDNIGHT CALM (8)
SUGGESTED BET: DANIEL BOOM (2) to win
RACE TWO
Looking to make it four on the bounce last start, DUKE OF SCOTLAND (6) stepped up to the Christmas Cup from a backline gate. Running on late for the bronze behind NORTHVIEW HUSTLER, his win the start prior was large. He can complete his 4YO term with the W.
HIRANYA (2) tackled the small Redcliffe Christmas Cup last time out when looming strongly and running NORTHVIEW HUSTLER to a head margin. Too strong on the front end the start prior with a sub 55 close out, he can be handy enough again here to throw it down.
CATSEYE BEACH (4) will strip fitter following his first run back from a spell here last week when tackling open company from gate 7. Back to this grade is a huge plus.
SOEXTRA (1) has recaptured some winning form with wins at his past two in succession. Overcoming gate 7 last time to turn over MOSSDALE TERRY, he has the gate to feature.
SELECTIONS: DUKE OF SCOTLAND (6), HIRANYA (2), CATSEYE BEACH (4), SOEXTRA (1)
SUGGESTED BET: DUKE OF SCOTLAND (6) to win
RACE THREE
Sent to the post as the fav last time at Redcliffe, GLOVER (2) finished unplaced after being exposed in the early stages. Making late metres on the passing lane two starts back when 3rd behind ROCK SUPREME, he finds an open Band 5 where the gate is a big asset.
R ELEVEN ART (6) was back in winning form last start at Redcliffe when grinding out a tough victory when sitting parked from a wide gate. His effort was sound in the Members Cup the start prior and despite a wide gate, he can issue a challenge here.
COLLECT A DIME (7) is afforded no favours from the wide gate but he is up to rolling the sleeves when needed. A game effort last start when 2m from DANGERZONE, he can feature.
MACH ASSASSIN (4) worked in the middle stages last start but failed to find the space when needed over the closing stages with a 3rd behind SOEXTRA. He can get forward again here.
SELECTIONS: GLOVER (2), R ELEVEN ART (6), COLLECT A DIME (7), MACH ASSASSIN (4)
SUGGESTED BET: GLOVER (2) win/place
RACE FOUR
With the gate to match his pattern, WHATA ROLLER (1) can tuck in behind the speed and look to take the snipers shot up the passing lane. His last win came five starts back when buried and then powering home late and his past four have been from wide front-line gates.
MOSSDALE TERRY (2) has been super consistent on the Saturday night circuit but has been costly to supporters at the same time. Runner-up again last week, he has been the fav in three of his past four when placed on each occasion. From this gate, he gets every chance.
MIRACLE MOOSE (10) was exposed early until receiving cove last start and ran on well to grab the bronze behind SOEXTRA. The gate stings but he can make a late play for the podium.
AMAMI (8) was huge in defeat last start when wide throughout and still giving on the wire when 4m from DANGERZONE. He will get a soft trip here and be searching for the gaps.
SELECTIONS: WHATA ROLLER (1), MOSSDALE TERRY (2), MIRACLE MOOSE (10), AMAMI (8)
SUGGESTED BET: Exotics 1-2-8-10
RACE FIVE
Charging home over the middle trip two starts back to grab the silver, AQUA SANCTA (9) found the tempo too electric last start as CALLING BUDDY powered up in front to put the chasers out of the equation. Seemingly at his best over this distance, look for him steaming home.
FRANCO MACHO (5) has been able to snare wins in two of his past three starts, the latest when overcoming the second line to claim a PB win at the mile. Darting home along the passing lane three back, he can settle handy to issue the challenge.
ALWAYS LOCKSLEY (1) has good speed out of the machine and has the gate to be prominent here. Not suited when asked to sit parked last start, he can be more effective here.
DARIN (2) took them all the way here two starts back with none of the chasers making any impact. Chasing from the running line last start when at the rear, he can be sharper here.
SELECTIONS: AQUA SANCTA (9), FRANCO MACHO (5), ALWAYS LOCKSLEY (1), DARIN (2)
SUGGESTED BET: AQUA SANCTA (9) to win
RACE SIX
Crossing the Tasman to join the Turpin stable, WAIKAKA MAGIC (3) arrives a last start winner in the South Island in handy time over the mile. Given a local trial to prepare where he was steady off the arm, he has the gate to make a first up impact.
VICTREE CHARLIE (1) was snagged off the arm from gate 6 last time and rattle late to finish under 2m from the winner POINT LOOKOUT. Striking trouble in the Sunshine Stars Final the start prior, the benefit of the inside gate can see him make a play for the prize.
SAVAGE STORM (7) is chasing a hat-trick after successive wins here at the mile. Pressing on from gate 6 last start to take control and see them off, he can look to overcome the ODM.
OUR SWEET JESS (4) has been a model of consistency all season, hitting the board in 13 of 16 appearances. Beaten by a wide gate last start at Redcliffe, she can be thereabouts once again.
SELECTIONS: WAIKAKA MAGIC (3), VICTREE CHARLIE (1), SAVAGE STORM (7), OUR SWEET JESS (4)
SUGGESTED BET: WAIKAKA MAGIC (3) to win
RACE SEVEN
An open mare’s race where mapping will play a key factor, with some vary scenarios to consider. If EMPRESS BYELINE (1) can hit the passing lane with some momentum, she will be hard to hold out. Charging home wide out to score three runs back, she is at her best with one shot.
MAJIC MOMENT (2) was forced to retreat last start to find position and from back in the pack could not make an impact as MADRIGAL arrived. Not too far from WE ALWAYS HAVE FAITH the start prior, she can show some early hustle to issue a challenge.
SHEZ NOTORIOUS (5) tried to take them all the way last start and after a steady second split, a 27.8 third panel left her vulnerable in the stretch. She can feature here.
SMOKESHOW (8) should secure the economical trip and with the frugal run can be searching for gaps to make a closing raid. Strong to the line two back behind JUNGLE BABY, she will probe.
SELECTIONS: EMPRESS BYELINE (1), MAJIC MOMENT (2), SHEZ NOTORIOUS (5), SMOKESHOW (8)
SUGGESTED BET: Exotics 1-2-5-8
RACE EIGHT
With a string of wide gates in recent starts, AURORA JOY (1) should appreciate the improved gate here and looks better suited at the 2138 than some of her opponents. Trying to chase from well back last time behind AARDIES MONEY at the mile, she attacked the line the start prior.
SWEET GEORGIA BROWN (4) was a dictating winner from gate 1 in mid-November but has been faced with second line barriers in all five runs since the victory. Midfield when making late metres last start from gate 10, she can press the button here to throw it down.
GINA DEL RAY (2) closed hard to arrive from back in the pack here two starts back after easing from gate 6. 5m from the winner last start when unplaced, tackling mares only will help.
BETTING JEWEL (5) fired out to take control last start and fought them all off except for AARDIES MONEY. The middle trip looks a query, but she is going well enough to feature.
SELECTIONS: AURORA JOY (1), SWEET GEORGIA BROWN (4), GINA DEL RAY (2), BETTING JEWEL (5)
SUGGESTED BET: AURORA JOY (1) to win
RACE NINE
BRONSKI ZULU (6) will be further tightened from his latest offering where he was third up from a spell. Powering over the top in the Members Cup when second up to score a smart win, he took his career earnings north of $200k last start with a smart Redcliffe Guineas victory.
ATTACHMENT (7) started from inside the second line last time out and needed the gaps sooner than they arrived when chasing home for the bronze behind the airborne CALLING BUDDY. Runner-up to THE JANITOR three starts back when setting the speed, he can set the target.
STUDLEIGH PUNTER (5) was heavily supported here last week over this trip and after being exposed early, secured the 1x1 trail and finished strongly to put them away. This is much harder.
MONTGOMERY BURNS (4) rolled forward and did the heavy lifting last start when parked at the mile. Game in defeat when holding 2nd behind STUDLEIGH PUNTER, he again is a podium player.
SELECTIONS: BRONSKI ZULU (6), ATTACHMENT (7), STUDLEIGH PUNTER (5), MONTGOMERY BURNS (4)
SUGGESTED BET: BRONSKI ZULU (6) to win
RACE TEN
Finding his groove with victories at his past two starts, HIDE AND SEEK (7) will be looking to wrap up a frustrating season in style by completing the threepeat. Forcing the issue to press to the front and take the Christmas Cup last start, he can overcome the 10m to take this.
IS THAT A BID (6) made a small error from the mobile last week when returning for his first appearance in seven weeks. Charging home over the closing stages to grab the silver, he can build off that effort to issue the challenge in this line up.
GEE CEE CALDER (1) was making his first appearance in the Sunshine State here last week when working to the front before his chances expired with an error. The 10m advantage is a big plus.
THEBESTBOURBON (2) has put together successive wins at the mobile mile and then 2138 with all the way performances on each occasion. Back to the tapes, she can get forward to feature.
SELECTIONS: HIDE AND SEEK (7), IS THAT A BID (6), GEE CEE CALDER (1), THEBESTBOURBON (2)
SUGGESTED BET: HIDE AND SEEK (7) to win
