STEWARDS REPORT FOR YARRA VALLEY

Trainers with multiple horses engaged in any given race were questioned as to the intended driving tactics to be adopted

GENERAL

Leniency was extended with respect to the Sectional Times Policy due to the prevailing weather and track conditions.

RACE 1 DE BORTOLI PACE (1650 MS)

Good Feelings underwent pre and post-race veterinary examinations in accordance with HRV policy due to the gelding having started in more than 200 races, which did not reveal any significant findings.

Aishabeach underwent pre and post-race veterinary examinations in accordance with HRV policy due to the gelding not having started since February 2020, which did not reveal any significant findings.

Bundy Wrangler broke under pressure approaching the 300m inconveniencing Rock Nien. In view of the recent record of Bundy Wrangler, the gelding will now be stood down from racing until trialling to the satisfaction of Stewards.  

Sean O’Sullivan, driver of Feel The Buzz, was cautioned for failing to fully maintain his position until the start was effected.

RACE 2 UNITED PETROLEUM 3YO MAIDEN PACE (1650 MS)

Wellsaidmylady broke shortly after the start and will now be placed outside the draw in future mobile start events.

Eye See Amour was held up rounding the final turn and in the early part of the straight.

RACE 3 – YARRA GLEN BAKEHOUSE 3YO MAIDEN PACE (1650 MS)

The start of this event was delayed avoiding a clash with Race 2 from Goulburn.

Demon Reactor began badly and will now be placed outside the draw in future mobile start events.

Rodney Petroff, driver of Ya Bottom Dollar, pleaded guilty to a charge under 163(1)(a)(iii) for causing interference in that approaching the 1500m he permitted Ya Bottom Dollar to shift in when not clear of Letsdancetilldawn resulting in that runner being checked and pacing roughly. In assessing penalty Stewards considered the relevant factors as outlined within the HRV Stewards Minimum Penalty Guidelines placing weight on Mr Petroff’s guilty plea and the circumstances of the incident noting that the racing manners of Ya Bottom Dollar contributed to the incident. Stewards accordingly imposed a 2-week suspension of Mr Petroff’s licence to drive in races commencing at midnight on 19 July 2022.

Rodney Petroff, driver of Ya Bottom Dollar, was cautioned for tightening in that approaching the finish he permitted Ya Bottom Dollar to improve to the inside of Lady In Line resulting in Ima Charma being tightened.

RACE 4 – ASHMORES SMASH REPAIRS PACE (2150 MS)

The start of this event was delayed avoiding a clash with Race 3 from Warrnambool.

Border Cross underwent a pre veterinary examination in accordance with HRV policy due to the gelding having started in more than 200 races, which did not reveal any significant findings. A Post-race veterinary examination was attempted, however the gelding had left the course.

James Herbertson, driver of Heidi Go Seek, explained that in his view the mare is better suited to races over the shorter distance of 1600-1700m which in his view combined with the consistent speed throughout told on Heidi Go Seek. Post-race veterinary examination was attempted, however the mare had left the course.

RACE 5 - YARRA VALLEY TOYOTA PACE (1650 MS)

The start of this event was delayed avoiding a clash with Race 4 from Goulburn.

RACE 6 – YARRA GLEN IGA PACE (2150 MS)

The start of this event was delayed to a void a clash with Race 5 from Goulburn.

Gee Hee Rocks pulled hard during the middle stages and contacted the sulky with its hind legs.

Robert Walters, driver of Coveffe Hustler, was issued with a caution for contacting the final marker peg prior to utilising the sprint lane.

RACE 7 – EASTERN GENERATOR HIRE TROTTERS HANDICAP (2150 MS)

Calders Day Out was slow to begin.

Sun Body NZ broke after the start and will now be placed outside the draw in future standing start events.

Sertorius NZ broke clear of interference passing the 1900m.

Trixy Nixie hung in and contacted marker pegs rounding the final turn.

Meghan NZ was held up rounding the final turn and in the early part of the straight.

Super Service trotted roughly before breaking gait momentarily approaching the 100m. In view of the gelding’s recent record a warning was issued.

RACE 8 – IGA LIQUOR PACE (2150 MS)

The start of this event was delayed avoiding a clash with Race 5 from Traralgon.

Tactical Response broke during the early stages of the score up and a warning was issued.
