Trainers with multiple horses engaged in any given race were questioned as to the intended driving tactics to be adopted

RACE 1 – STROUD HOMES 2YO MAIDEN PACE (1650 MS)

General

The start of this event was delayed allowing Stewards an opportunity to confirm the identity of CMON SHARKY which had a discrepancy with its identification when presented to race. Following review, Stewards confirmed the horse presented as being CMON SHARKY and therefore permitted the gelding to take its place in the field.

ORSOME DIVA – Broke gait free of interference at the 1150m and was placed on its last chance to race truly.

MAGGIE MOTH – Inconvenienced near the 1150m when taken away to avoid the galloping ORSOME DIVA.

HURRICANE HOOLY – Inconvenienced near the 1150m when taken away to avoid the galloping ORSOME DIVA.

HUDDY SAY YES – Weakened over the final stages to finish in 10th position, beaten 105.6m. A post-race veterinarian examination failed to find any abnormalities. In view of the poor performance, HUDDY SAY YES will now be stood down until it completes one requalifying trial. Driver Rita Burnett was unable to offer any explanation as to the performance of the gelding and indicated that connections will assess its immediate racing future within the stable.

CMON SHARKY – Inconvenienced near the 1150m when taken away to avoid the galloping ORSOME DIVA.

OLLIES MEDAL – Inconvenienced and paced roughly near the 1150m when taken away to avoid the galloping ORSOME DIVA before improving three wide.

IN AN IDEAL WORLD – A post-race veterinarian examination due to the colt being nominated to compete the following night at Melton, failed to find any abnormalities.

RACE 2 – IGA LIQUOR 2YO MAIDEN PACE (1650 MS)

ALWAYS A SHOWGIRL – Held up for clear running inside the final 100m.

ZENARIO – Post-race swab sample obtained.

OUR LONELY WOLF – Raced keenly during the early stages when caught wide before being taken to the rear of the field at the 900m. Broke gait free of interference at the 300m and was placed on its last chance to race truly. Driver Rita Burnett explained that she had recently made adjustments to the geldings bit and consequently OUR LONELY WOLF failed to settle in the run and despite her efforts, she was caught wide for an extended period.

RACE 3 – RIDGELINE GLASS & GLAZING 3YO MAIDEN PACE (1650 MS)

GOODTIME CORTEZ – Paced roughly at various stages.

WATCHING OVER US – Paced roughly on the entry to the first turn.

SALSAWITHSIERRA – Broke gait during the score up, out of position at the start and trailed the field throughout. The filly will now be excluded from the mobile barrier draw.

MY KGARI – Broke gait during the score up and was placed on its last chance in the mobile barrier draw.

DON KATTERZ – Broke gait during the score up, out of position at the start and trailed the field throughout. The gelding will continue to be excluded from the mobile barrier draw.

RACE 4 – DE BORTOLI YARRA VALLEY TROTTING CUP FINAL (2150 MS)

NELLIE JOY – Slow to begin.

CHINSKI NZ – Raced keenly throughout whilst leading. Gave ground over the final stages to finish in 6th position, beaten 35.7m. When questioned regarding the performance and the tactics displayed, Driver Leilani Justice explained that given the gelding was 2nd up today and had worked well leading into the event, she elected to drive in a positive manner and intended to use the good draw to lead. Ms Justice stated that after a brief challenge early when THE CHOOK improved to her outside before breaking, CHINSKI NZ relaxed well however, following a further challenge by SISTA EVARISTA, which also broke and then BULLAPARK BENO improving to sit in close proximity to her outside, CHINSKI NZ commenced to race keenly from the 1200m despite her efforts to restrain. Ms Justice added that at the 600m when asking the gelding for a further effort, CHINSKI NZ failed to respond to her driving and performed below expectations. Ms Justice further added that the gelding may be better placed in the shorter distance events in addition to having its races further spaced.

THE CHOOK – Pre-race blood sample obtained. Broke gait free of interference at the 1700m.

DESIGNS – Post-race swab sample obtained.

SISTA EVARISTA – After improving three wide, broke gait free of interference at the 1250m.

BENNIE AND THE JETS NZ – Broke gait free of interference at the 1200m,

RACE 5 – YARRA VALLEY TOYOTA PACE (1650 MS)

SHADY DANCER – Examined by the clubs veterinarian prior to and following the event due to the mare having competed in excess of 200 race starts. No abnormalities were found on either examination.

GOODTIME STRYKER – Broke gait free of interference at the 200m and was placed on its last chance to race truly.

SASSCILIAN – Unable to obtain clear running in the home straight and was not fully tested.

FEEL THE BUZZ – Examined by the clubs veterinarian prior to and following the event due to the gelding being 12yo and has competed in excess of 200 race starts. No abnormalities were found on either examination.

BREATHE EASY – Driver Ryan Sanderson was fined $100 under Rule 162(1)(j) for failing to maintain his position on the 2nd line prior to the start.

RACE 6 – DAIKIN OAKS DAY 2024 PACE (2150 MS)

TRINITYS DELIGHT – Gave ground from the 400m.

WIND SOCK – Raced keenly during the middle stages when positioned outside the leader. Driver Tasmyn Potter was cautioned for allowing her left foot to lower from the sulky rest near the 600m when activating approved gear. Post-race swab sample obtained.

BUDD SIDEWINDER – Examined by the clubs veterinarian prior to and following the event due to the gelding having competed in excess of 200 race starts. No abnormalities were found on either examination. Inconvenienced when taken back by the weakening TRINITYS DELIGHT between the 400 and 200m. Held up in the home straight and was not fully tested.

RACE 7 – UNITED PETROLEUM YARRA VALLEY PACING CUP FINAL (2150 MS)

JAY BEE – Gave ground over the final stages to finish in 8th position, beaten 15.0m. A post-race veterinarian examination failed to find any abnormalities. When questioned regarding the performance, Driver Ryan Sanderson explained that he had made use of his mare early in a solid lead-time and this had likely contributed into JAY BEE failing to run on late and further added that the mare may have also come to the end of its preparation.

AUCKLAND RED – Inconvenienced passing the 1800m when taken wider to avoid the galloping SASSYOLA.

MISTER JIMARINGLE – Inconvenienced passing the 1800m when taken wider to avoid the galloping SASSYOLA.

GIVE DAVE A WAVE – Pre-race blood sample obtained. Driver Craig Hoban pleaded guilty to a charge under Rule 165(1)(b) in that racing towards the 1800m, he permitted his horse to shift in when not 1mtr clear of the extended front legs of SASSYOLA which had established running to his inside and consequently, SASSYOLA was taken in, lost its rightful running and when being eased, broke gait in consequence. Mr Hoban had his licence to drive in races suspended for a period of 14 days which was ordered to commence at midnight, Thursday 7 November 2024 and to expire on Friday 22 November 2024 on which day he may drive. When considering penalty Stewards were mindful of Mr Hoban’s guilty plea, driving and offence record in addition to the circumstances attached to this incident. Mr Hoban was further cautioned for allowing his drive to shift out near the 600m and inconvenience the running of IM A DENNY TOO NZ. Mr Hoban pleaded guilty to a further charge under Rule 156(2)(a) for applying his whip inside the final 200m in more than a wrist only flicking motion. Mr Hoban was fined $200. Post-race swab sample obtained.

ROCKNROLL GRONK – Paced roughly when placed under pressure at the 150m.

SASSYOLA – Examined by the clubs veterinarian prior to and following the event due to the mare having competed in excess of 200 race starts. No abnormalities were found on either examination. Near the 1800m, taken in by GIVE DAVE A WAVE and broke gait in consequence.

IM A DENNY TOO NZ – Inconvenienced passing the 1800m when taken wider to avoid the galloping SASSYOLA. Inconvenience at the 600m when taken away from GIVE DAVE A WAVE.

RACE 8 – MANHARI METALS PACE (1650 MS)

GLENLEA HANOVER – Broke gait during the score up and was placed on its last chance in the mobile barrier draw.

LEAVE YOUR HAT ON – Failed to run on over the final stages to finish in 7th position, beaten 14.8m. A post-race veterinarian examination failed to find any abnormalities. When questioned regarding the performance, Driver Ryan Sanderson explained that after making use of the mare early, he settled further back than planned and found it difficult to get into the race late.
