HARNESS RACING VICTORIA
STEWARDS REPORT FOR YARRA VALLEY
MONDAY 7 OCTOBER 2024
Daniel Borg (Chairman) Track: Good |
Trainers with multiple horses engaged in any given race were questioned as to the intended driving tactics to be adopted.
RACE 1 – MANHARI METALS 3YO MAIDEN PACE (2150 MS)
SALSAWITHSIERRA – raced roughly and galloped after the start; exclusion from future mobile barrier draws.
EARS THE BOSS – tired to be beaten 92.8m into fifth and last placing. Driver Ben Xiriha could offer no tangible explanation for what appeared to be a poor performance and conveyed his disappointment in the overall effort. Post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have discharge from both nostrils with the possibility of an underlying infection present. Stood down pending the completion of one (1) satisfactory trial and pending veterinary clearance. Stewards intend to follow-up with connections in the coming days as to the gelding’s recovery.
On 15 October 2024, trainer Wally Toczynski reported to HRV Stewards that blood analysis had revealed EARS THE BOSS to be afflicted with a high white blood cell count, indicating the possibilty of a virus present. Mr Toczynski explained that the gelding would be treated accordingly prior to a decision on the commencement of his preparation.
HEZA DOOZIE – late scratching at 10.38am on veterinary advice.
RACE 2 – MANHARI METALS TROT (2150 MS)
STRAIGHT TO THETOP – driver Tasmyn Potter fined the sum of $100 under AHRR162(1)(y) for allowing the filly to run through the first half of the last mile in 65.3 seconds (0.3 seconds outside the requirement) when leading and ultimately winning the event. In adopting this approach, Stewards considered the lead time which was 2.4 seconds slower than the five-year average for this track and distance. Clear record noted.
ADJURE – galloped score-up, out of position when start effected; exclusion from future mobile barrier draws.
CLAUDYS SECRET – tightened by THE VICARS GIRL (Kevin Weidenbach) at approx. 300m and contacted several marker pegs.
THE VICARS GIRL- hung in under pressure and galloped at approx. 250m.
LIZZIES SON – galloped after start; exclusion from future mobile barrier draws. Trailed the field thereafter.
RACE 3 – MANHARI METALS 2YO MAIDEN TROT (1650 MS)
REY BAILANDO – Stewards did not act against driver Nathan Jack for allowing the gelding to contact several marker pegs prior to the entrance of the sprint lane owing to the conditions prevailing.
KYVALLEY JOKER – galloped score-up, out of position when start effected; exclusion from future mobile barrier draws. Trailed the field thereafter.
ALDEBARAN AXL – approved late driver change; Anthony Butt replaces Zac Phillips (indisposed).
