General– Prior to the all-clear being given Driver S Osmond and Trainer C Hughes (WEONA BRANACH) who had been placed second past the post, were given the opportunity to view the patrol footage of the home straight, to ascertain whether they had grounds to lodge a protest against the winner OUR PRINCESS KENNEDY NZ. After viewing the film S Osmond lodged an objection alleging interference in the home straight, stating that he had to check his runner out near the 100 metres, when racing to the outside of OUR PRINCESS KENNEDY NZ which shifted-out. Evidence was taken from the Trainer/Driver of OUR PRINCESS KENNEDY NZ, A Turnbull, and further evidence from S Osmond, and the patrol footage further reviewed. Stewards dismissed the protest as they were of the view that while OUR PRINCESS KENNEDY NZhad hung-out in the home straight, resulting in WEONA BRANACHbeing taken up the track and being inconvenienced near the 100 metres, they felt that they could not be satisfied to the required standard, that had that interference not occurred that WEONA BRANACHwould have beaten OUR PRINCESS KENNEDY NZto the finish line, given the margin between the two runners. All clear was given on the judge’s numbers.
