Trainers with multiple runners in any one race were questioned in relation to their intended tactics.
RACE 1 – U BEND EM WE MEND EM PACE (1776MS)
ON GOLDEN ROAD (A Cortopassi) – Driver A Cortopassi was cautioned for shifting outwards onto BETTORPAYUP (C Peterson), who was inconvenienced, when racing into the home straight on the final occasion.
TWOHEARTONEDIAMOND (J Rigoli) – Hung inwards throughout the event.
INTERNAL WAVES (G Butler) – When questioned in relation to the tactics adopted in this event, in particular the reason for racing strongly outside the leader in the middle stages, Driver G Butler put forward the mare’s best chance was to lead the event and believed there may have been an opportunity to achieve the position after settling and further stated the mare struggles to finish her races off from other positions. Stewards noted the comments.
RACE 2 – WE TOW 24/7 PACE (2180MS)
General: This event commenced approximately 4 minutes after the scheduled starting time owing to MUMMAS LITTLE STAR (J Rigoli) having to replace a punctured sulky tyre sustained in the preliminary.
MAJOR BUZZ (C Peterson) – Hung outwards during the event.
EXTINCTION (J Suvaljko) – Driver J Suvaljko was cautioned for the manner in which he reduced the pace when racing in the one-wide line racing out of the back straight on the first occasion in which the trailing HEAVENLY BLISS (L Elliott) was inconvenienced.
THE THIRSTY VET (A Suvaljko) – The near side tendon boot became displaced during the event.
RACE 3 – WE MEET BY ACCIDENT PACE (1776MS)
CLASSNSMART (A Suvaljko) – With regard to the apparent improved performance, Trainer S Suvaljko put forward the gelding enjoys racing over the shorter course and was able to find a free rolling gait racing in the lead the one-wide line.
GOLD HORSESHOE (L Harper) – Driver L Harper was reprimanded under the provisions of R156(2)(a) for applying the whip in more than a wrist only flicking motion.
HIGHLY FLAMMABLE (L Elliott) – Checked racing out of the front straight on the first occasion.
Drivers J Suvaljko (ROCKIN THE TREND) and C Wallrodt (ALEXANDRA THEGREAT) were interviewed into the reason for ALEXANDRA THE GREAT breaking gait racing out of the front straight on the first occasion. After considering the evidence tendered and reviewing the patrol vision, it was established both runners had arrived simultaneously looking for a trailing position on GOLD HORSESHOE (L Harper), and with ALEXANDRA THEGREAT having been driven up prior to being taken a hold, broke gait as a consequence. As such, no action was taken against any driver or horse however Mr Suvaljko was reminded in future races to ensure that when shifting ground, to ensure a position can be secured without other drivers having to take action.
RACE 4 – TABTOUCH PLACE A SAME RACE MULTI PACE (1776MS)
KOBE EDWARD (D Harper) – Hung inwards at various stages of the event.
RACE 5 – SPURRS STUD 3YO WESTBRED FINAL PACE (2180MS)
General: Shortly after the start of this event ALREDDY FLYIN (L Elliott) broke gait when racing out of the back straight, severely checking ALLWOODS CHEVRON (C Peterson), dislodging driver C Peterson and severely checking several other runners, With Mr Peterson remaining on the track, the remaining drivers were alerted to the stop race protocol racing in the front straight on the first occasion. ALLWOODS CHEVRON was captured by the Clerk of the course a short time after. Mr Peterson was attended to by St John Ambulance personnel and found fit to fulfill his upcoming engagements. All runners underwent a veterinary inspection prior to the recommencement of this event.
ALREDDY FLYIN (L Elliott) – Raced greenly throughout. Broke gait racing into the front straight to receive the bell and retired from the event racing out of the front straight on the final occasion. Trainer B Ashcroft was advised the filly will be stood down from racing for a period of 6 days and until such time as the completion of 1 satisfactory re-qualifying trail.
DIAMOND WORLD (L Harper) – Over-raced when leading the event.
CODENAME ELLIOT (A Cortopassi) – Over-raced during the early and middle stages. Inconvenienced behind a galloping runner racing in the front straight to receive the bell.
IM BOSS (C Wallrodt) – Checked behind a galloping runner racing in the front straight to receive the bell.
General: Owing to the delay of this race, the following races were re-scheduled: Race 6 – 8.58pm, Race 7 – 9.24pm and Race 8 – 9.44pm.
RACE 6 – WAGIN PANEL & PAINT CUP PACE (2180MS)
RELLIM (D Miller) – When questioned as to remaining in the one-wide line, as to moving into a clear three-wide position racing towards the end of the front straight to receive the bell, Driver D Miller put forward he believed exposing the gelding without cover, with a lap remaining, was too much of an ask on the gelding having demonstrated a shorter sprint capacity prior and had hope of some racing room developing later in the event which did not eventuate. Further, Mr Miller credited the drive on the winner in which the field remained compacted until the concluding stages. Stewards noted the comments.
GYPSY DRAGON (T Bryant) – Failed to come into position when the start was effected. A warning was placed on the mare’s Mobile Barrier manners.
MASTER LEIGHTON (D Harper) – Inconvenienced as the start was effected.
RACE 7 – TABTOUCH BETTER YOUR BET PACE (2180MS)
General: Stewards acceded to a request from Driver C Peterson to come off his remaining drives owing to him feeling some effects from being dislodged in Race 5.
Stewards approved the following driver changes: Race 7 CAMEOS DELIGHT – L Wallrodt and Race 8 PINEAPPLE – J Suvaljko.
RACE 8 – WAGIN TROTTING CLUB 2YO WESTBRED PACE (1776MS)
General: This event commenced approximately 5 minutes after the re-scheduled time owing to a false start being declared at the first attempt to begin.
PINEAPPLE (J Suvaljko) – Severely checked by a galloping runner and broke gait as a consequence racing out of the front straight on the first occasion.
ATHREESHOTEAGLE (A Vidovich) – Broke gait during the score up resulting in a false start being declared. Broke gait racing out of the home straight on the first occasion. Trainer D Miller was advised the gelding will be stood down from racing for a period of 6 days and until such time as the completion of 1 successful re-qualifying trial.
General: Drivers D Kulcsar (CHEVRONS GOLD) and L Elliott (CAPTURE THE MOMENT), accompanied by R. W. W. A. Driving Master A Cortopassi, were interviewed as to the reason for CAPTURE THE MOMENT breaking gait racing out of the front straight on the first occasion and failing to take any competitive part in the event thereafter. Upon conclusion, neither driver was found to be at fault to a degree where action was required with consideration given to the racing manner of CAPUTRE THE MOMENT, which hung outwards. Both drivers received further feedback on this incident from Mr Cortopassi.
