STEWARDS REPORT FOR MOOROOPNA AT SHEPPARTON         

SUNDAY 9 JUNE 2024

Trainers with multiple horses engaged in any given race were questioned as to the intended driving tactics to be adopted

 

RACE 1 – ALABAR OMW PACE (1ST HEAT) (2190 MS)

FANTASY BEACH – Held up for clear running in the early stages of the home straight prior to utilising the sprint lane.

CARRAMAR OLAM – Pre-race blood sample obtained. Shifted ground when placed under pressure on the entry to the home straight. Driver Chris Alford was advised to show greater care.

WIND SOCK – Raced keenly throughout when positioned outside the leader.

WILLOWDENE GIRL – Post-race swab sample obtained.

MICHEN ROY – Paced roughly when improving wider on the track near the 450m for which a warning was issued.

RACE 2 – YOUR SOLD REAL ESTATE PACE (2190 MS)

KING KULAFU – Entering the first turn was taken inside the line of marker pegs when position to the inside of I LIKE WHAT I SEE and shortly after, broke gait and trailed the field throughout. At a subsequent inquiry it was established that shortly after the start, the gelding had cast its R Hind plate in addition to the offside hopple shortener pin releasing and this had caused its driver Neil McCallum to shift in allowing room as KING KULAFU was in the process of moving up the track. Not withstanding I LIKE WHAT I SEE being found to have raced tight to its outside when crossing, the effect of the gelding galloping was not found to be caused or further contributed to the position of I LIKE WHAT I SEE and therefore no action was taken.

I LIKE WHAT I SEE – Driver Liam Older was cautioned for racing tight to the outside of KING KULAFU racing into the first turn. Held up for clear running in the early stages of the home straight prior to utilising the sprint lane. Mr Older was further cautioned for allowing his mare to race inside the line of the final marker peg prior to utilising the sprint lane.

TWILIGHT BEACH – Held up for clear running for the entire length of the home.

WHERES WOOD WOOD – Pre-race blood sample obtained. Post-race swab sample obtained.

EYE SEE PHILTRA – Raced keenly during the middle stages prior to giving ground over the final stages to finish in 9th position, beaten 38.8m. A post-race veterinarian examination failed to find any abnormalities. When questioned regarding the performance, Driver Jack Laugher explained that his gelding failed to settle in the run which proved detrimental.

ALTA BEDFORD – Raced keenly during the middle stages.

BINN WATCHING – Slow to score up when adjusting gear and was out of position. In view of the circumstances, no action was taken.

KELLYS IDEAL – Raced keenly during the middle stages.

RACE 3 – ANENEL EQUINE CLINIC VICBRED GRADUATE PACE (1690 MS)

ROCKEN – Near the 250m, contacted a number of marker pegs when taken in slightly by WINSUM BELLA.

FENG SHUI STAR – Pre-race blood sample obtained. Driver Jordan Chibnall was cautioned for shifting ground near the 250m inconveniencing SHE IS LOVELY which was giving ground.

SHES POPPY – Driver Damien Wilson was fined $100 under Rule 162(1)(y) for failing to adhere to the sectional time requirements whilst leading. Post-race swab sample obtained.  

MUSSEL SHOALS – Broke gait during the score up, out of position at the start and will now be excluded from the mobile barrier draw.

SHE IS LOVELY – Inconvenienced near the 250m when taken away from FENG SHUI STAR which shifted ground.

RACE 4 – COTTRELL ELECTRICAL VICBRED GRADUATE TROT (1690 MS)

PLAYA DEL CAREMEN – Trotted roughly when placed under pressure over the final stages.

SWEET MAORI MISS – Pre-race blood sample obtained. Held up for clear running in the early stages of the home straight.

PETITE FOUR – Broke gait free of interference near the 1150m and will now be stood down from racing for a period of 21 days and until it completes 3 requalifying trials.

BACKINTHESKY – Gave ground over the final stages to finish in 9th position, beaten 46.9m.

PATNWILL – Shifted ground when placed under pressure in the early stages of the home straight. Driver Ashely Manton was found guilty of a charge under Rule 156(2)(a) for applying his whip in more than a wrist only flicking motion inside the final 200m. Mr Manton had his licence to drive in races suspended for a period of 14 days which was ordered to commence at midnight, Tuesday 18 June 2024 and to expire on Wednesday 3 July 2024 on which day he may drive. When considering penalty Stewards were mindful of Mr Manton’s recent offence record.

RACE 5 – LIFT N SHIFT MOOROOPNA PACING CUP (2190 MS)

SHE HAUNTS EM – Driver Stacey Towers reported that she received a flat offside sulky tyre shortly after the start. The circumstances regarding this matter have been adjourned.

Supplementary Report – Shepparton Tuesday 2nd July 2024

SHE HAUNTS EM – Following consideration of submissions from Stacey Towers (SHE HAUNTS EM) and Corey Bell (HIGHTVIEW HAMMER) Stewards were unable to find that shortly after the start when HIGHVIEW HAMMER was taken inwards, direct contact was made to the wheel of SHE HAUNTS EM which had caused the flat tyre. In determination, Stewards were mindful that Ms Towers had reported that shortly after the start her drive had also made contact with its own sulky wheel.

HIGHVIEW HAMMER – Stewards intend to interview driver Corey Bell regarding the circumstances of SHE HAUNTS EM sustaining a flat tyre shortly after the start.

NOMORELYING – Held up for clear running for the entire length of the home straight.

NO WIN NO WORRIES – Driver Michelle Phillips pleaded guilty to a charge under Rule 156(3) for applying her whip in an unapproved manner in that she applied her whip on more occasions than permitted inside the final 200m. Ms Phillips was fined $100 and had her licence to drive in races suspended for a period of 7 days which was ordered to commence at midnight, Wednesday 26 June 2024 and to expire on Thursday 4 July 2024 on which day she may drive. This suspension was ordered to commence immediately following a period of suspension she received for two offences at Mildura on Friday 7 June 2024. When considering penalty Stewards were mindful of Ms Phillips’ recent offence record. Post-race swab sample obtained.

STAG PARTY NZ – Pre-race blood sample obtained.

RACE 6 – JDC CONTRACTORS OMW TROT (1ST HEAT) (2190 MS)

DYNAMIC DIESEL – Approaching the first turn was checked and galloped for a short distance when placed in restricted room to the inside of CALL ME JACK which shifted in. Weakened over the final stages to finish in 7th position, beaten 112.8m. Given the interference in the early stages, no action was taken.

CALL ME JACK – Driver Ian McMahon was found guilty of a charge under Rule 163(1)(a)(iii) for causing interference in that racing into the first turn, he has permitted his gelding to shift in when not clear of DYNAMIC DIESEL which was checked and galloped. Mr McMahon had his licence to drive in races suspended for a period of 14 days which was ordered to commence at midnight, Sunday 9 June 2024 and to expire on Monday 24 June 2024 on which day he may drive. When considering penalty Stewards were mindful of Mr McMahon’s not guilty plea, driving and offence record and the circumstances attached to this incident.

EVERYBODYLOVESME – Held up for clear running until inside the final 100m.

BERRIESANDCHERRIES – Pre-race blood sample obtained.

MAORI DUCHESS – Weakened over the final stages to finish in 8th position, beaten 121.5m. A post-race veterinarian examination failed to find any significant abnormalities. Driver Cameron Maggs was unable to offer any explanation as to the disappointing performance. Stewards ordered that MAORI DUCHESS be stood down from racing until it completes one requalifying trial.

RACE 7 – CLEAVES GARDEN SUPPLIES MOOROOPNA TROTTERS CUP (2690 SS)

MACHO MAORI – Pre-race blood sample obtained. Trotted roughly after the start before breaking gait and will continue to be excluded from the standing start barrier draw.

SUPER SERVICE – Post-race swab sample obtained.

RACE 8 – SADDLEWORLD SHEPPARTON PACE (2190 MS)

FAVOURITEHIGHLIGHT – Had a tendency to hang out throughout the event and shortly after entering the home straight when under driving, shifted ground inconveniencing DANCINGONSTARLIGHT. Driver Glenn Bull was cautioned for lack of control and further, a warning was placed on the mare. In taking no further action against Driver Bull, Stewards were mindful of the tractability of FAVOURITEHIGHLIGHT.

ACE DUIGAN – Examined by the clubs veterinarian prior to and following the event due to the gelding being 12YO. No abnormalities were found on either examination.

BONDI PRINCE – Raced keenly during the middle stages.

WELL WELL – Pre-race blood sample obtained. Driver Kevin Weidenbach was cautioned for easing the pace rounding the first turn causing a number of trailing runners to be hampered. Gave ground over the final stages to finish in 9th position, beaten 41.3m.

ELYSIAN PALACE – Declared a late scratching at 9:07am on veterinarian advice.

HANOVER STARZZZ – Raced keenly during the middle stages.

DANCINGONSTARLIGHT – Inconvenienced when rounding the first turn due to the pace in the running line being eased. Shortly after entering the home straight, inconvenienced when taken away from FAVOURITEHIGHLIGHT when that runner shifted ground to its inside.

SHES GOING PLACES – Inconvenienced and paced roughly when rounding the first turn due to the pace in the running line being eased.
