RACE 2 – VHRC/RENOWN SILVERWARE MAIDEN  PACE (2180 MS)

Prior to all clear driver Kerryn Manning(SHIKOBA) asked to view the race vision and after doing so lodged a protest against QUICK DECISION( Brent Murphy)  being declared the winner, alleging interference in the home straight. After reviewing the race vision and  considering submissions from both drivers and from trainer B Tindale, Stewards were comfortably satisfied that QUICK DECISION had shifted out from shortly after entering the home straight until nearing the finish, and as a consequence SHIKOBA was  inconvenienced and taken  up the track, with her driver having to take corrective action to  shift away from QUICK DECISION on several occasions, and that the effect of the shift out by QUICK DECISION upon SHIKOBA was more than the margin of a head between the two runners at the finish. Accordingly the protest was upheld and SHIKOBA was placed first, with QUICK DECISION then placed second.

QUICK DECISION- shifted out under pressure in the home straight and was relegated to second after protest. Placed on  her last chance to race truly for shifting out despite the efforts of driver Brent Murphy.

Due to a power outage on course which affected the judges box, photo finish and the race vision provider, a significant delay occurred and all races were put back a race, with Race 8 being rescheduled to 9.27 p.m.

ODIN- pulled hard in running and was held up around the home turn and into the straight before being directed wider to gain a clear run. Stewards queried driver Jordan Leedham as to the reasons for him not angling wider to gain clear running in the back straight. Mr Leedham explained that with the first and second favourites leading and racing outside the leader, and with a slow second quarter he felt that race would be a sprint home over the final 400 metres, and with GRAYSON RED travelling well he elected to remain on the back of that runner rather than commit three wide for the last 500 metres, however as CARRAMAR OLAM progressed forward to his outside and the tempo quickened passing the 400 metres GRAYSON RED began to labour, leaving him held up. He added that his drive, which wears a lugging pole on his inside, had lost some momentum as he angled out in the home straight, then made some ground nearing the finish. Stewards accepted the explanation of Mr Leedham.

WHITE LION- caught wide rouind the first turn and broke when being restrained- placed on his last chance to race truly.

CARRAMAR OLAM- hung in under pressure in the home straight.

KEAYANG TACO- trainer m Lee was fined $50 for failing to notify the intended tactics of her multiple runners.

RESURRECTS- pulled hard in running, then held up around the home turn and raced with his inside sulky wheel to the inside of the final marker peg prior to entering the sprint lane. Stewards held up the all clear to review the race vision, and after doing so were satisfied that the gelding had not progressed forward, nor gained any advantage, and as such all clear was given. Driver Lochie Cook was cautioned for his drive  contacting the final  marker peg.
