After taking evidence from driver G Panella and reviewing the available patrol footage, it was established that upon being called up to the start TACKAS LAST DANCEwas facing the mobile barrier, at which point the filly became fractious and subsequently was reluctant to score up. When questioned in relation to Ms Panella raising her hand in the early stages of the score up, Ms Panella stated that after the filly became fractious the half pole on the offside had wrapped around the bridle, however the clerk of the course was able to rectify the issue prior to the start being effected. After considering the circumstances around the incident, stewards determined that the racing manners of TACKAS LAST DANCE was the main contributing factor as to why the filly was out of position at the start, and as such all clear was given on the judge’s numbers 2-7-6-1. A warning was issued.

IM QUICK AS FIRE NZ – Completed a pre-race warm up prior to competing. Stewards delayed the declaration of all clear for an opportunity to review the start. After taking evidence from driver G Panella and reviewing the available patrol footage, it was established that, after breaking gait during the middle stages of the score up IM QUICK AS FIRE NZ had veered down the track despite the efforts of G Panella to remain in the gelding’s allocated barrier (ten). It was further ascertained that, IM QUICK AS FIRE NZ had begun the race from behind RUBY BABY NZ, which had caused WATCHFUL LADY starting from barrier (nine) to restrain behind IM QUICK AS FIRE NZ after the start. After further review, stewards determined that IM QUICK AS FIRE NZ had not materially affected the chances of WATCHFUL LADY nor any other runner and therefore had not gained an unfair advantage at the start, as such all clear was given on the judge’s numbers 10-7-4-5. After considering the recent record of the gelding, connections were advised that IM QUICK AS FIRE NZ would be placed right outside of the mobile barrier draw.
