Trainers with multiple horses engaged in any given race were questioned as to the intended driving tactics to be adopted.
RACE 1 – ELITE HORSE TRANSPORT PACE (2190 MS)
General
Trainer Colin Godden was cautioned for failing to notify Stewards of the intended driving tactics for his runners EPIC ORION and ART ON FIRE NZ.
RONNIE THE HAMMER – Shifted ground over the final stages. Post-race swab sample obtained.
CALAQUENDI – Broke gait during the score up and will now be placed on its last chance in the mobile barrier draw. Paced roughly rounding the first turn when caught wide prior to being restrained to the rear of the field. Weakened over the final stages to finish in 12th position, beaten 65.9m. No action was taken.
HONEST HARRIETTE – Hung in and contacted marker pegs on the entry to the home straight.
ART ON FIRE NZ – Held up for clear running in the early stages of the home straight prior to utilising the sprint lane.
RACE 2 – AVENEL EQUINE CLINIC PACE (1690 MS)
NOBLE JULIA – Raced keenly during the middle stages.
ALIZA HILL – When questioned regarding the performance of the mare which finished in 6th position, beaten 6.8m, driver Chris Alford explained that after finding the lead, his mare lost interest in the run and given the moderate sectional times, ALIZA HILL performed below expectations. A post-race veterinarian examination failed to find any abnormalities.
TOOBY GOLD – Had difficulty obtaining clear running in the home straight.
BET SHEZA LADY – Held up for clear running in the early stages of the home straight prior to utilising the sprint lane.
LORIMERMAJOR – Held up for clear running in the early stages of the home straight.
OUR CHEEKY DEVIL – Pulled hard during the score up. Post-race swab sample obtained. Delayed post-race blood sample obtained.
RACE 3 – SADDLEWORLD SHEPPARTON PACE (1690 MS)
WIND SOCK – Near the 1600m, tightened to the inside of SPORTS WRACK which shifted in. Driver Tasmyn Potter was fined $100 under Rule 168(1)(a) for careless driving when allowing her gelding to contact the wheel of SPORTS WRACK near the 700m resulting in a flat tyre.
SPORTS WRACK – Driver Ewa Justice was cautioned for tightening the room of WIND SOCK near the 1600m when shifting in. Sustained a flat tyre at the 700m when contacted by the trailing WIND SOCK.
BIG BAD OSSIE – Examined by the clubs veterinarian prior to and following the event due to the gelding having not competed in the prior 12 months. No abnormalities were found on either examination.
VINSANITY NZ – Broke gait shortly after the start and will now be excluded from the mobile barrier draw.
EYE SEE PHILTRA – Pre-race blood sample obtained.
RACE 4 – YOUR SOLD REAL ESTATE PACE (1690 MS)
JOEYS HANGOVER – Examined by the clubs veterinarian prior to and following the event due to the gelding having competed in excess of 200 race starts. No abnormalities were found on either examination.
BERYLS GRIN – Broke gait on the entry to the first turn and on a second occasion at the 1200m. The gelding was stood down until it completes one requalifying trial. A post-race veterinarian examination failed to find any abnormalities.
PINNACLE HOPE – Examined by the clubs veterinarian prior to and following the event due to the gelding having competed in excess of 200 race starts. No abnormalities were found on either examination.
RACE 5 – HUNTER RURAL 4YO & OLDER MAIDEN PACE (2190 MS)
STILL PLAYIN NZ – Pulled hard and hung in during the score up resulting in the mare improving forward of the barrier arm causing a false start. The mare will now be excluded from the mobile barrier draw. An inquiry into the whip use displayed by Mr Matson over the final 200m and his failure to present to Stewards when directed has been adjourned.
SUPPLEMENTARY REPORT – SHEPPARTON 26 NOVEMBER 2024
STILL PLAYIN NZ – Driver Steven Matson pleaded guilty to a charge under Rule 156(3) for applying his whip on more occasions than permitted over the final 200m. Mr Matson had his licence to drive in races suspended for a period of 7 days which was ordered to commence at midnight, Thursday 12 December 2024 and to expire on Friday 20 December 2024 on which day he may drive. When considering penalty Stewards considered Mr Matson’s guilty plea and driving record.
Mr Matson was found guilty to a further charge under Rule 238 in that following the said race, he failed to present to Stewards prior to leaving the racecourse when a direction was issued to him by Stewards. Mr Matson was fined $200.
WHITE STAR TOMMY – Raced keenly during the early stages when positioned outside the leader. Weakened from the 600m to finish in 11th position, beaten 127.4m. A post-race veterinarian examination failed to find any abnormalities. In view of the poor performance, WHITE STAR TOMMY was stood down from racing for a period of 10 days and until it completes one requalifying trial.
CANT EATOVERS – Had difficulty obtaining clear running in the home straight.
RACE 6 – COTTRELLS ELECTRICAL TROT (1690 MS)
MONTANA MUSCLE – Held up for clear running in the early stages of the home straight prior to utilising the sprint lane.
LIZZIES SON – Broke gait shortly after the start, trailed the field throughout and will continue to be excluded from the mobile barrier draw.
RACE 7 – JAM PACKED DONUTS 3YO MAIDEN PACE (1690 MS)
JOHNNY TANG – Raced keenly throughout the event.
SUMMER SCHOOL – Broke gait during the score up, out of position at the start and will now be excluded from the mobile barrier draw.
ALTATUDE – Broke gait free of interference at the 1400m and will now be placed on its last chance to race truly.
RACE 8 – ALABAR BLOODSTOCK 2YO MAIDEN PACE (1690 MS)
A LOT LIKE PENDLES – Hung in and contacted marker pegs near the 1300m and continued to hang in at various stages during the event. A warning was issued. Gave ground over the final stages to finish in 6th position, beaten 40.9m.
SABITA – Paced roughly on the entry to the first turn.
IN AN IDEAL WORLD – Pre-race blood sample obtained. Post-race swab sample obtained.
PLATINUMS BOY – Weakened over the final stages to finish in 8th position, beaten 51.3m. No action was taken.
LADY OF HOPE – Gave ground over the final stages to finish in 7th position, beaten 42.5m.
RACE 9 – JDC CONTRACTORS TROT (2190 MS)
ABBIE – On the entry to the final turn, checked and broke gait when taken in by SWEET MAORI MISS and contacted the sulky of DANCES.
SWEET MAORI MISS – Driver Neville Pangrazio pleaded guilty to a charge under Rule 163(1)(a)(iii) for contributing to interference when on the entry to the final turn, he has failed to take all reasonable efforts to prevent his mare from shifting in, when not clear of ABBIE resulting in that mare being taken in, contacting the sulky of DANCES and breaking gait. Mr Pangrazio had his licence to drive in races suspended for a period of 7 days which was ordered to commence at midnight, Tuesday 26 November 2024 and to expire on Wednesday 4 November 2024 on which day he may drive. When considering penalty Stewards took into account Mr Pangrazio’s guilty plea, driving and offence record in addition to the circumstances attached to this incident.
DANCES – Pulled hard during the score up. Gave ground over the final stages to finish in 6th position, beaten 36.6m. A post-race veterinarian examination failed to find any abnormalities. When questioned regarding the performance, Driver Donna Castles explained that once finding the lead, her mare failed to settle in the run which proved detrimental.
STRAIGHT TO THETOP – Raced keenly throughout the event.
GLENGARRY RED – Due to the gelding being placed outside of the draw at its previous start (Melton 22 November2024), the horse was listed as EOD and commenced from outside of the front line.
YOU GOT ME GOOD – Raced keenly throughout the event.
KEAYANG BRANDY – Broke gait during the score up, out of position at the start, trailed the field throughout and will continue to be excluded from the mobile barrier draw.
