Trainers with multiple horses engaged in any given race were questioned as to the intended driving tactics to be adopted.
RACE 1 – NUTRIEN YEARLING SALE @ LLOWALONG FARMES 2YO MAIDEN PACE (1690 MS)
WICKED MITZI – Raced roughly on the final turn and contacted marker pegs.
OHSO SECRETIVE– Gave ground from the 400m to be beaten 47m into last placing.
BOLT OF COBARGO – Trainer Rita Burnett was cautioned for the late driver notification of Monique Burnett. Held up for clear running on the final turn prior to utilising the sprint lane.
ARCHIE MOTH– Inconvenienced at the 300m by Okanui Beach.
RACE 2 – NUTRIEN YEARLING SALE @ ALABAR MAIDEN PACE (2190 MS)
PRE NUP – Driver Cameron Maggs pleaded guilty of a charge under AHR Rule 163(1)(a)(iii) for causing interference. The particulars of the charge being that approaching the 700m, he allowed his drive to shift wider on the track when insufficiently clear of Marlo Mareau, resulting in contact being made to the near hind leg of that filly which was checked and broke gait. Mr.Maggs had his licence to drive in races suspended for a period of 7 days to begin at midnight 26 March 2024.
AMERICAN BOXER – ($3.50) Driver Nathan Jack was queried regarding the performance of the colt which led and gave ground from the 300m to be beaten 38m into 8th placing. Mr.Jack could offer no explanation for the performance, however stated the colt may be driven better with cover. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormality.
STREETS OF MADRID– Pulled hard early/middle stages before being pulled up at the 1100m. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding had choked down and has now been stood down from racing until the completion of one satisfactory trial, a veterinary clearance and endoscopic examination.
AMYS BABY ANGEL – Trainer Russell Jack cautioned for the late driver notification of Chris Alford.
ANAKIN – Inconvenienced approaching the 1100m by Marlo Mareau.
MARLO MAREAU– Trainer Representative Katrina Cain requested the filly remain outside of the draw in future mobile start events. Contacted the sulky of Pre Nup approaching the 1100m resulting in the filly being checked and breaking gait.
RACE 3 – NUTRIEN YEARLING SALE @ DUNROAMIN STANDARDBREDS PACE (1690 MS)
ELYSIAN PALACE – Tightened by The Majors Girl on the first turn and contacted marker pegs.
THE MAJORS GIRL– Driver Tasmyn Potter cautioned for tightening the racing room of Elysian Palace on the first turn.
FRIENDS – (12+yrs) Underwent pre and post-race veterinary examinations in accordance with HRV Animal Welfare Policy. Neither check revealed any abnormality.
OUR TRUE COLOURS– Contacted the final marker peg prior to utilising the sprint lane.
HARRO HILL – Held up for clear running on the final turn and in the home straight.
VICTORTHEINFLICTOR– Out of position at the start, warning issued.
RACE 4 – NUTRIEN YEARLING SALE @ ALDEBARAN LODGE TROT (2190 MS)
SAINT EYES – Broke gait when clear of interference at the 1200m and placed on last chance to race truly.
AVANT GUARD – Held up for clear running on the final turn prior to utilising the sprint lane.
OUR TRIXTER– (Last start Jan 2023) Underwent pre and post-race veterinary examinations in accordance with HRV Animal Welfare Policy. Driver Tony Xiriha was queried regarding the performance (10th placing, beaten 29m) of the gelding and the driving tactics adopted. Mr.Xiriha stated that the gelding had been trialling well and he was disappointed with the effort. Mr.Xiriha added that he felt the gelding would be capable of finishing the race off much better despite the tempo through the early stages. Mr.Xiriha advised he intends to trial the gelding again prior to returning to the races. Stewards noted the comments.
AT THE DISTANCE – Held up for clear running on the final turn.
HURRICANE JANE– Out of position at the start and will continue to be placed outside of the draw in future mobile start events. Held up for clear running on the final turn.
MEADOWVALLEY LOVER- Out of position at the start and will continue to be placed outside of the draw in future mobile start events.
RACE 5 – NUTRIEN YEARLING SALE @ RHIANNON PARK PACE (2190 MS)
ZIEGFELD – Pulled hard early stages before being pulled up at the 1100m. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the horse had choked down and has now been stood down from racing until the completion of one satisfactory trial.
FOREVER YIN– Sustained a flat tyre when inconvenienced by Ziegfeld at the 1100m.
RACE 6 – NUTRIEN YEARLING SALE @ BHOBRON PARK PACE (2190 MS)
General – Stewards questioned Alex Ashwood (Tooram Cee Cee) and Ewa Justice (Direct Command NZ) regarding the circumstances when Direct Command NZ broke gait at the 1100m. After reviewing video footage and taking evidence from both drivers it was established that at the 1100m, both Direct Command NZ and Tooram Cee Cee began to progress three wide. At this point Mr.Ashwood stated Tooram Cee Cee was slow to respond, which was supported by the video footage. Stewards could not attribute the incident to any horse or driver and no further action was taken.
MADAM REACTOR – Corey Bell replaced Ryan Sanderson (indisposed) as the driver.
OUR BELLA LUCIA – Held up for clear running on the final turn prior to utilising the sprint lane.
BANDIT EYES– John Caldow replaced James Herbertson (dual engaged) as the driver.
VINSANITY NZ– Utilised the sprint lane in home straight.
TOORAM CEE CEE– Sulky contacted at the 800m by Direct Command NZ.
DIRECT COMMAND NZ– Contacted sulky, checked and breaking gait at the 1100m. Held up for clear running on the final turn and in the home straight.
PAYUP ORLEAVE– Held up for clear running on the final turn and in the home straight.
RACE 7 – NUTRIEN YEARLING SALE @ GALTHORNPARK PACE (1690 MS)
SHE HAUNTS EM – Utilised sprint lane in home straight.
OUR KINKY BOOTS – Out of position at the start, warning issued.
CHEVRON FLIES NZ– Trainer Julie Douglas was cautioned for the late driver notification of Alex Ashwood. Out of position at the start, warning issued.
HONEST HARRIETTE– Out of position at the start and will continue to be placed outside of the draw in future mobile start events.
RACE 8 – CHECK OUT LOT 207 MAJESTIC SON COLT TROT (2190 MS)
ZESTA LA GO GO – Fractious before start, warning issued. Tired to be beaten 55m into 6th placing, no action taken given margins established by placegetters.
TRANQUIL BILL – Broke on the final turn and placed on last chance to race truly.
THATS DUDLEY– Broke after the start and trailed the field. The gelding will continue to be placed outside of draw in future mobile start events.
VICI BLOOM – Late scratching at 10.17am with Stewards Permission.
RACE 9 – NUTRIEN YEARLING SALE @ GRENADA PARK PACE (1690 MS)
KARUMA KEV – No clear run in the home straight.
UNIT FORTY ONE– Broke in the score up and out of position at the start. The gelding trailed the field and will now be placed outside of the draw in future mobile start events.
CALIFORNIA SHAKE– Broke in the early stages of the score up and will now be placed outside of the draw in future mobile start events.
RACE 10 – GV BRED ARE THE BEST BRED @ NUTRIEN YEARLING SALE PACE (1690 MS)
ELZBOY – (12+yrs) Underwent pre and post-race veterinary examinations in accordance with HRV Animal Welfare Policy. Neither check revealed any abnormality.
BONDI PRINCE – Pulled hard outside the leader.
VILLAGE SMIRKER – (12+yrs) Underwent pre and post-race veterinary examinations in accordance with HRV Animal Welfare Policy. Neither check revealed any abnormality. Held up for clear running on the final turn prior to utilising the sprint lane.
