Trainers with multiple horses engaged in any given race were questioned as to the intended driving tactics to be adopted

 

RACE 1 – NEATLINE HOMES 0-1 LTW PACE (1690 MS)

MY ROCK MOVES – On the entry to the home straight, hung out inconveniencing G B BRAVE NZ and after being corrected inwards, the gelding veered out and again inconvenienced the running of G B BRAVE NZ. A warning was issued.

DOOO DONT THINK – Held up for clear running in the early stages of the home straight.

SHE HAUNTS EM – Shifted out on the entry to the home straight when following the movement of BELLA DANZA. Driver Stacey Towers was advised to exercise greater care.

ALABAMA ICE – Rounding the first turn, was taken in and came together with G B BRAVE NZ which shifted out resulting in contact being made. At a subsequent inquiry this incident was not found to be as a result of any careless driving and the incident was reported. Inconvenienced on the entry to the home straight when taken away from SHE HAUNTS EM which shifted slightly wider.

G B BRAVE NZ – Hung out shortly after the start. Driver Ross Payne pleaded guilty to a charge under Rule 163(1)(b)(ii) for impeding the forward progress of another runner in that entering the first turn, he had permitted his runner to shift out resulting in FRUGAL FARE to be eased and impeding its forward progress. Mr Payne had his licence to drive in races suspended for a period of 7 days which was ordered to commence at midnight, Tuesday 23 July 2024 and to expire on Wednesday 31 July 2024 on which day he may drive. When considering penalty Stewards were mindful of Mr Payne’s guilty plea, driving and offence record in addition to the circumstances of the incident. Rounding the first turn came together with ALABAMA ICE and paced roughly for a short distance. On the entry to the home straight was inconvenienced when taken away from MY ROCK MOVES.

FRUGAL FARE – Entering the first turn was eased away from G B BRAVE NZ which shifted out to its inside. Paced roughly rounding the final turn when improving wider on the track.

RACE 2 – ALABAR 3YO MAIDEN PACE (2190 MS)

MIKI MARK – Declared a late scratching at 2:17pm on veterinarian advice.

RENROW LAD – Pre-race blood sample obtained. Post-race swab sample obtained.

LITTLE SHOWGIRL – Hung in when placed under pressure over the final stages.

ANAKIN – Driver Christopher Shinn was cautioned for shifting out shortly after the start inconveniencing ALTA BAYAMO.

ALTA BAYAMO – Shortly after the start eased when ANAKIN shifted out to its inside.

RACE 3 – YOUR SOLD REAL ESTATE PACE (1690 MS)

JACKSBOY – Inconvenienced at the 450m when taken back by LORIMERMAJOR which gave ground.

LORIMERMAJOR – Gave ground over the final stages to finish in 8th position, beaten 26.3m. A post-race veterinarian examination failed to find any significant abnormalities. When questioned regarding the performance, Driver Alex Ashwood reported that he has not had a good connection when driving the gelding and he was unable to offer any further explanation.

BUS STOP – Near the 1150m, hung in and paced roughly when improving three wide.

RACE 4 – JIM’S DIGGERS PACE (1690 MS)

BRONSKI MOMENT – Held up for clear running in the early stages of the home straight prior to utilising the sprint lane.

ARRAPS – Held up for clear running in the home straight and was not fully tested.

MAJOR SUSPECT – Driver John Caldow was cautioned for allowing his gelding the strike the final marker peg prior to utilising the sprint lane.

KARUMA KEV – Driver Casey Leijen was fined $200 under Rule 159B(1)(a) for wearing a body protector not approved by HRA.  

RACE 5 – JDC CONTRACTORS PACE (1690 MS)

STAG PARTY NZ – Inconvenienced shortly after the start when taken away from OUR LUCIANO which galloped. Driver Cameron Maggs was placed on notice as to the manner he applied his whip rounding the final turn.

OUR LUCIANO – Broke gait shortly after the start and will now be excluded from the mobile barrier draw.

RORYVILLE – Raced keenly throughout. Post-race swab sample obtained.

ULTIMATE HUGHEY – Held up for clear running in the early stages of the home straight until utilising the sprint lane.

HIGH FLYING HARRY NZ – Examined by the clubs veterinarian prior to and following the event due to the gelding not competing in the prior 12 months. No abnormalities were found on either examination. Weakened over the final stages to finish in 8th position, beaten 56.6m for which a warning was issued.

RACE 6 – COTTRELLS ELECTRICAL PACE (2190 MS)

RUBY WINGATE – Weakened over the final stages to finish in 7th position, beaten 51.7m for which a warning was issued. A post-race veterinarian examination failed to find any significant abnormalities. Driver Ryan Duffy was at a lost to explain the disappointing run.

REGAL ROCK NZ – Raced keenly throughout the event when positioned without cover. Gave ground over the final stages to finish in 6th position, beaten 26.5m. Driver Sean O’Sullivan reported that despite his efforts, his gelding failed to settle in the run which proved detrimental.

SKY CITY NZ – Declared a late scratching at 9:50am on veterinarian advice.

CHIRRIPO – Raced keenly throughout the event whilst leading.

SASSINESS – Post-race swab sample obtained.

RACE 7 – BUY A MEMBERSHIP PACE (2190 MS)

TIGER OF OLD – Raced keenly during the middle stages. Driver George Chamouras was placed on notice as to the manner he applied his whip in the early stages of the home straight.

NOBLE JULIA – Raced keenly during the middle stages. Held up for clear running in the early stages of the home straight prior to utilising the sprint lane.

KYLOAN QUEEN – Examined by the clubs veterinarian following the event due to the mare being nominated to compete the following night at Bendigo. No abnormalities were found.

OHHEMMJAY CRESCO – Unable to obtain clear running inside the final 100m.

SELF EXCLUSION – Raced keenly during the middle stages. Held up for clear running in the home straight and was not fully tested.

HAIR RAZOR – Pre-race blood sample obtained.

RACE 8 – AVENEL EQUINE HOSPITAL PACE (2190 MS)

PINNACLE HOPE – Examined by the clubs veterinarian prior to and following the event due to the gelding having competed in excess of 200 race starts. No abnormalities were found on either examination.

BETTOR THAN MOST – Raced keenly throughout the event.

RACE 9 – HUNTER RURAL TROT (1690 MS)

PLAYA DEL CARMEN – Began badly when galloping away and will now be excluded from the mobile barrier draw.

WHATS THE TEA – Due to the gelding having being placed outside the draw at its previous start (Kilmore 18 July 2024), the gelding was placed outside the front line in barrier 7.

LUNA – Trotted roughly over the final 200m. A post-race veterinarian examination failed to find any significant abnormalities.

MAJOR MAX – Broke gait shortly after the start, trailed the field throughout and will continue to be excluded from the mobile barrier draw.

MACHO MAORI – Broke gait during the score up and was placed on its last chance in the mobile barrier draw.

RACE 10 – SADDLEWORLD SHEPPARTON TROTTERS HANDICAP (2190 SS)

BELLMAC BAMBI – Weakened over the final stages to finish in 7th position, beaten 52.9m. Given the winning margin, no action was taken.

MISS AVENGER – Began badly when galloping away and will now be excluded from the standing start barrier draw. Weakened over the final stages to finish in 9th position, beaten 97.2m for which a warning was issued.

MAJESTIC CONNIES NZ – Raced keenly during the early stages prior to obtaining cover.

MAORI DUCHESS – Slow to begin and will continue to be excluded from the standing start barrier draw. Weakened over the final stages to finish in 8th position, beaten 92.4m for which a warning was issued. A post-race veterinarian examination failed to find any significant abnormalities. Driver Cameron Maggs reported that after losing ground at the start, his mare failed to show interest in chasing the field and performed disappointing.

SALSKI – Post-race swab sample obtained.
