STEWARDS REPORT FOR SHEPPARTON

TUESDAY 22 OCTOBER 2024

Daniel Borg (Chairman)
Kylie Harrison
Adrian Crowther
Emma Johnson (Starter)
Dr Zazy Walsh (Veterinarian)

Track: Good
Weather: Fine

Trainers with multiple horses engaged in any given race were questioned as to the intended driving tactics to be adopted

RACE 1 – NEATLINE HOMES PACE (2190 MS)

FIRECRACKER NOLA – driver Tony Peacock was found guilty of a charge under AHRR149(2) which reads “a person shall not drive in a manner which in the opinion of Stewards is unacceptable” with the particulars of the charge being that “as the driver of Firecracker Nola, Mr Peaccock committed his drive to remain in a three-wide position throughout, after there appeared to be an opportunity present through the early stages to restrain his drive and afford the mare an economical run, with cover at the rear of the field. Mr Peacock then continued to advance forward and race three-wide, without cover from approx. the 1500m when there was no realistic prospect of gaining the position outside the leader, actions which in the opinion of Stewards were unacceptable and detrimental to the chances of his drive, with the mare then tiring from the 750m, to be beaten 94.7m into tenth and last placing”. In determining penalty, in accordance with the HRV Minimum Penalty Guidelines, Stewards considered Mr Peacock’s not guilty plea, driving infrequency, overall record under this rule, and suspended Mr Peacock’s license to drive for a period of four (4) weeks with the suspension ordered to commence immediately. Mr Peacock was advised of his appeal rights. Checked shortly after the start by CRESCO THREEPEAT and broke gait as a result. FIRECRACKER NOLA underwent a post-race veterinary examination which revealed a laceration on the medial coronet band on the off-fore limb.

ALIZA HILL – held up and no clear run rounding home turn final occasion; utilized sprint lane thereafter.

CRESCO THREEPEAT – driver Gary Pekin plead guilty to a charge under AHRR163(1)(a)(iii) which reads “a driver shall not cause or contribute to interference”, with the particulars of the charge being that “after beginning from gate five, Mr Pekin allowed or directed his drive to shift inwards when not clear of FIRECRACKER NOLA (Tony Peacock), with that runner contacting the sulky of CRESCO THREEPEAT, being checked and breaking gait as a result”. In determining penalty in accordance with the HRV Minimum Penalty Guidelines, Stewards considered Mr Pekin’s guilty plea, the degree of carelessness and overall nature of the incident, driving frequency, excellent record under this rule with this being the first offence in approx. 1300 drives and suspended Mr Pekin’s license to drive for a period of two (2) weeks, with the suspension ordered to commence at midnight on 25 October 2024. Mr Pekin was advised of his appeal rights.

ARRAPS – hung out at various stages when leading the event.

RACE 4 – SADDLEWORLD SHEPPARTON PACE (1690 MS)

NIFTY JOLT - pre and post-race veterinary examinations in accordance with the HRV Animal Welfare policy having attained 200 or more lifetime starts. No obvious abnormalities detected either examination.

FANTASY BEACH – held up and no clear run rounding home turn final occasion; utilized sprint lane thereafter. Promoted to fifth placing.

BERYLS GRIN – paced roughly throughout and galloped on several occasions. Post-race veterinary examination revealed the mare to be mildly lame in both the near-fore and near-hind limbs. Stood down pending veterinary clearance. Covered by FANTASTY BEACH when galloping over the finishing line and therefore relegated one placing behind that runner.

OHHEMMJAY CRESCO – driver Gary Pekin cautioned for not having the gelding in position behind the runner drawn ahead on the front row when the start was effected.

RACE 5 – HUNTER RURAL TROT (1690 MS)

The start time of this event was amended to 8.07pm at the request of Sky Channel.

MIDNIGHT AVENGER – tightened and inconvenienced by AGAINST THE BRIDLE at the 200m.

MONTANA MUSCLE – held up and no clear run rounding home turn final occasion; utilized sprint lane thereafter.

CRITICAL ADVANTAGE – held up and no clear run from approx. 300m to finish.

RACE 6 – GRENADA PARK 5YO & OLDER 0-1 LTW PACE (1690 MS)

SMILE WITH A GRIN – pulled hard score-up and hung in score-up.

ROYLE BLOOD – pulled hard in running. Hung in marginally approx. 225m and contacted several marker pegs prior to utilizing the sprint lane. Stewards delayed the all-clear to ascertain whether ROYLE BLOOD gained an advantage on other runners when racing inside marker pegs. Upon review of several angles of the official race replays, Stewards determined that driver Tasmyn Potter fulfilled her obligations in restraining her drive and that no advantage was gained when placed inside marker pegs and therefore and the all clear was given on the judge’s numbers.

I LIKE WHAT I SEE – late scratching at 8.44am on veterinary advice.

THE SILENT ASSASSIN NZ – hung out during score-up and was out of position when start effected; warning issued. Inconvenienced shortly after the start when trailing CHARLIE CHOPS who had paced roughly from release point. Hung out in running thereafter.
