TEX GOES BANG – Subject to a pre-race blood sample. Held up for a clear run until approaching 200m.

RACE 3 – JDC CONTRACTORS PACE           (2190M MS)

SHES GOING PLACES – No driver could be held responsible to the required standard for causing Shes Going Places to be checked and galloped when that mare was racing in restricted room to the inside of Lilnova and Dallas Nikolay near 1950m.

DALLAS NIKOLAY – Due to the gelding having competed in more than 200 races was examined by the veterinarian before and after the race in accordance with HRV policy which revealed no apparent abnormalities. Tired over the concluding stages to be beaten 120m. The gelding will be stood down until the completion of one satisfactory trial.

WELL WELL – Tired over the concluding stages to be beaten 73m was placed on its last chance to race competitively. A post-race veterinary examination failed to find any abnormalities. When questioned regarding the tactics displayed, particularly the decision to withhold a challenge from King Kulafu during the middle stages before taking cover from that runner near 1000m driver Kevin Weidenbach stated after gaining the lead easily the gelding was traveling well during the early stages and hoped to race through the middle section without sustained pressure. This didn’t occur. Driver Weidenbach also raised concerns over how genuine the effort of the gelding were after taking cover. Driver Kevin Weidenbach agreed that with hindsight he should have taken cover earlier. Stewards noted that while an error had occurred they did not feel that the error was blameworthy to the extent to warrant a charge and advised Driver Weidenbach that he is expected to drive Well Well to its current and exposed form.

EAGLES AND INDIANS – Subject to a post-race swab sample. Driver Liam Older was fined $400 under rule 156(2)(a) for applying the whip with more than a wrist only flicking action in the home straight.

STELLAR QUEEN – A post-race veterinary examination failed to find any abnormalities. When questioned regarding the tactics displayed, particularly the decision to shift Stellar Queen wider form a favourable trailing position near 1300m, driver Glenn Bull stated he was concerned that Dallas Nikolay would not be able to take him into the race when other runners started to improve from the rear of the field. Also, he believed at the time he made his decision it was in his mare’s best interest as he expected the tempo of race to ease after he made this move. Stewards noted Driver Bull’s explanation.

The gelding was placed on its last chance to race competitively. When queried in relation to the performance of Azor Ahai NZ David Moran stated the gelding began to pull hard after hearing another runner contact its own sulky wheel then continued to pull hard during the middle stages before giving Driver Moran signs that the gelding may have choked down.
