Trainers with multiple horses engaged in any given race were questioned as to the intended driving tactics to be adopted.
General
Due to Rebecca Bartley being indisposed due to illness, approval was granted for the following driving changes. Ms Bartley was stood down until a medical certificate is submitted
Race 1 – Direct Command NZ now Ryan Sanderson
RACE 1 – HUNTER RURAL PACE (1690 MS)
ANIMADO – Held up for clear running in the early stages of the home straight prior to utilising the sprint lane.
DIRECT COMMAND NZ – Broke gait free of interference on the entry to the first turn and will now be placed on its last chance to race truly.
EMILY VINCENT – Raced keenly during the middle stages.
INTERPRETATION – Held up for clear running rounding the final turn and into the early stages of the home straight.
CHIRRIPO – Pulled hard during the score up. Checked on the entry to the first turn when shifting away from the galloping DIRECT COMMAND NZ.
RACE 2 – AVENEL EQUINE PACE (2190 MS)
AMBER ALERT – A false start was called at the first attempt when the mare broke gait and interfered with runners on the 2nd line. The mare will now be excluded from the mobile barrier draw. Placed in restricted room to the inside of ACE DUIGAN between the 300 and 200m.
SILKY SMOOTH EXCUSE NZ – Declared a late scratching at 6:15pm on veterinarian advice.
ACE DUIGAN – Examined by the clubs veterinarian prior to and following the event due to the gelding being 12YO. No abnormalities were found on either examination. Driver Ashley Manton was cautioned for tightening the room of AMBER ALERT between the 300 and 200m when crossing to the lead. Mr Manton pleaded guilty to a charge under Rule 156(2)(a) for applying his whip in more than a wrist only flicking motion at various stages of the event. Mr Manton was fined $200.
WELL THATS ALRIGHT – Weakened over the final stages to finish in 7th position, beaten 80.9m. A warning was issued.
MY LUCK ROCK – Driver Trevor Hilson was cautioned for scoring up in the incorrect position prior to the false start. A post-race veterinarian examination failed to find any abnormalities.
GO GEORGE GO – Driver Glenn Bull was cautioned for tightening the room of REBEL WITH A GRIN NZ near the 1700m. Weakened over the final stages to finish in 6th position, beaten 57.7m. No action was taken.
REBEL WITH A GRIN NZ – Inconvenienced near the 1700m when steadied as GO GEORGE GO shifted inwards to its outside. Weakened over the final stages to finish in 8th position, beaten 99.2m. The gelding was place on its last chance to race competitively. A post-race veterinarian examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.
PINNACLE HOPE – Examined by the clubs veterinarian prior to and following the event due to the gelding having competed in excess of 200 race starts. No abnormalities were found in either examination. Inconvenienced at the 400m when easing away from the weakening WELL THATS ALRIGHT.
RACE 3 – COTTRELLS ELECTRICAL 2YO MAIDEN PACE (1690 MS)
TOFFEE BELLE – Broke gait free of interference on approach to the first turn, trailed the field throughout and will now be placed on its last chance to race truly.
LADY OF HOPE – Inconvenienced near the 750m when shifting away from MCWIZARD.
MCWIZARD – Near the 750m, veered out, inconveniencing LADY OF HOPE. A warning was issued. Shifted out over the final stages when placed under pressure. Post-race swab sample obtained.
MAD PUNTA – Inconvenienced on the entry to the first turn when shifting away from the galloping TOFFEE BELLE.
MISS JOPLIN – Inconvenienced on the entry to the first turn when shifting away from the galloping TOFFEE BELLE.
EEBEEBEE – Inconvenienced on the entry to the first turn when shifting away from the galloping TOFFEE BELLE.
THEROUX – Inconvenienced on the entry to the first turn when shifting away from the galloping TOFFEE BELLE.
RACE 4 – JDC CONTRACTORS PACE (2190 MS)
ANGELSHAVTIME NZ – Near the 350m, inconvenienced before shifting wider as it was trailing BIG SLEDGE HAMMER which galloped. Not withstanding Ms Hargreaves has taken action to avoid further interference to her own drive, Ms Hargreaves was advised she must ensure she is mindful when shifting wider to ensure she takes all efforts to prevent interference to other runners.
YA BOTTOM DOLLAR – Near the 350m, inconvenienced when taken wider to avoid HERAKLES which paced roughly when checked.
BIG SLEDGE HAMMER – Paced roughly from the 450m before breaking gait free of interference at the 350m. The gelding regained its correct gait and inside the final 150m, paced roughly. A post-race veterinarian examination failed to find any abnormalities. BIG SLEDGE HAMMER was stood down until it completes one requalifying trial.
HERAKLES – Pre-race blood sample obtained. Near the 350m, checked and paced roughly when placed in restricted room between BETA THAN LOVE NZ and ANGELSHAVTIME NZ which shifted out.
WEMADE FREO – Held up for clear running in the early stages of the home straight.
BETA THAN LOVE NZ – Broke gait during the score up and was placed on its last chance in the mobile barrier draw. Near the 350m, checked wider when positioned to the outside of BETA THAN LOVE NZ which was taken wider by ANGELSHAVTIME NZ.
RACE 5 – SADDLEWORLD SHEPPARTON PACE (2190 MS)
FINAL BOW – Pre-race blood sample obtained.
PLAYUP ORLEAVE – Fractious prior to the start. A post-race veterinarian examination failed to find any abnormalities.
BETTORSWEETVICTORY – Held up for clear running in the early stages of the home straight.
OZZIE JOYBELL – Raced roughly during the score up for which a warning was issued.
RACE 6 – ELITE HORSE TRANSPORT MAIDEN PACE (1690 MS)
CRAZY ON THE BEACH – Fractious prior to the start. Paced roughly for a short distance after the start. Held up for clear running in the early stages of the home straight.
RACE 7 – JAM PACKED DONUTS TROT (2190 MS)
MEADOWVALLEY LOVER – Broke gait shortly after the start and will now be excluded from the mobile barrier draw.
DHONI TROUBLE NZ – Hung out on the entry to the back straight on the final occasion. Post-race swab sample obtained.
MELBREH – Broke gait shortly after the start, trailed the field throughout and will now be excluded from the mobile barrier draw.
WHATS THE TEA – Entering the final turn, tightened when positioned to the inside of ONETWOSKIPPERFEW which hung in.
THE VICARS GIRL – Broke gait free of interference at the 500m and will now be stood down until it completes one requalifying trial.
HURRICANE JANE – Held up for clear running in the early stages of the home straight prior to utilising the sprint lane.
ONETWOSKIPPERFEW – Raced keenly during the middle stages. Hung in on the entry to the final turn crowding WHATS THE TEA.
RACE 8 – ALABAR BLOODSTOCK PACE (2190 MS)
WELL WELL – Near the 2000m, tightened when positioned to the inside of COURTS BLISS which shifted in. Weakened over the final stages to finish in 8th position, beaten 79.8m for which a warning was issued.
COURTS BLISS – Driver Jeremy Quinlan was cautioned for racing tight to the outside of WELL WELL near the 2000m prior to crossing. In taking no further action, Stewards could not be satisfied to the required standard that when crossing, he had done so without clearance.
JOEYS HANGOVER – Examined by the clubs veterinarian prior to and following the event due to the gelding having competed in excess of 200 race starts. No abnormalities were found on either examination. Weakened over the final stages to finish in 7th position, beaten 78.7m. When questioned regarding the performance, Driver Alex Ashwood stated that although making early use of the gelding, JOEYS HANGOVER performed well below expectations and he was at a loss to explain the performance. A warning was issued.
RACE 9 – YOUR SOLD REAL ESTATE PACE (2190 MS)
ROCKSTAR LEO – Pulled hard during the score up.
OUR CHEEKY DEVIL – Held up for clear running until inside the final 100m.
THE MAJORS GIRL – Held up for clear running in the early stages of the home straight prior to utilising the sprint lane.
