Mr Forge explained that the gelding had won its previous start at Maryborough on 8 March and as such he had again driven forward tonight, however the gelding had begun to strike its own sulky wheels on the first turn and overraced thereafter before giving ground from the back straight. A post race veterinary examination revealed a poor recovery and a wound to the rear of his off hind fetlock consistent with having struck his own sulky. Under the circumstances Mr Forge’s explanation was noted.

Stewards queried driver Stephen Matson, with Mr Matson explain that he had angle three wide near the 600 metres, however BLUE OCEAN, whom he had been trailing also angled wider and he then trailed that runner for a short distance before it came under pressure and he then angled back to the one out line as BLUE OCEN gave ground, as he was of the view he could save some ground and then shift BLUE OCEAN wider around the bend. Mr Matson further explained that as he improved to the inside of BLUE OCEAN that runner picked up the bit and improved to his outside resulting in him not being able to get to a position where he could shift wider, and he then had to wait for the sprint lane where the mare was then able to make ground in the home straight. Stewards noted Mr Matson’s explanation.
NIFTY JOLT- underwent pre and post race veterinary examinations due to his number of lifetime starts. Worked forward early and the unsuccessfully challenged for the lead from the 1200 metres, then raced outside the leader
