Race 1 – REDCLIFFE YEARLING SALE NOMS EXTENDED TO NOVEMBER 30 PACE 1780M [MS]
ROCKAWAY BEACH (Jack Chapple) – Displayed gate speed to lead the event. Approaching the 600 metre mark, while maintaining the lead, the gelding shifted outwards and momentarily locked sulky stays with ROCK HAMMER (Layne Dwyer), which had simultaneously shifted inwards before yielding ground over the remainder of the event. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities other than the gelding exhibiting a slow post-race recovery. Driver J Chapple was questioned regarding the overall performance of ROCKAWAY BEACH, which, after starting at $4.60 and leading the event, gave ground leaving the 600 metres and finished ninth and last, beaten in excess of 49 metres. Mr Chapple expressed disappointment with the performance and advised that, after consultation with Trainer S Grimsey prior to the race, the agreed tactics were to utilise the inside gate draw and lead the event, which was achieved without contest. He further explained that the gelding travelled comfortably until shortly after entering the back straight on the final occasion, where it began to shift outwards and locked sulky stays momentarily, causing some inconvenience. From that point, the gelding failed to respond and gave ground. Trainer S Grimsey when questioned expressed his disappointment likewise with the performance and was unable to provide any tangible explanation. Mr Grimsey further advising the gelding’s future within the stable will be reviewed. Stewards noted the explanations.
ROCK HAMMER (Layne Dwyer)– Raced three-wide in the early stages before working forward to race outside the leader near the 1500 metres. Approaching the 600 metres, shifted inwards and momentarily locked sulky stays with ROCKAWAY BEACH (Jack Chapple), which had shifted outwards simultaneously.
BRONX (Brendan Barnes)– Inconvenienced leaving the 600-metre mark when trailing the weakening ROCKAWAY BEACH, which commenced to yield ground at that stage of the event.

B MAC C NZ (Taleah McMullen)- Inconvenienced leaving the 600-metre mark when trailing the weakening ROCKAWAY BEACH, which commenced to yield ground at that stage of the event.

JACCKA COOPER NZ (Brent Livingstone)– Commenced a three-wide trailing run from a rearward position leaving the 750-metre mark.
BETTYS GOLD CLASS (Adam Richardson)– Broke gait during the early stages of the score-up but was able to regain its gait and fill its allotted position prior to reaching the candy pole. Hung inwards leaving the 450-metre mark, resulting in its sulky wheel making contact with a marker peg.
GOOD WORD THAT (Gary Bond)– Checked near the 200-metre mark as a result of DANCIN WITH LUSH pacing roughly.
ROCKTIME (Lola Weidemann)– Paced roughly near the 250-metre mark when racing in restricted room. Shortly after, was checked near the 200 metres when shifting wider to avoid DANCIN WITH LUSH, which paced roughly.
DANCIN WITH LUSH (Chloe Butler) – Commenced a three-wide run without cover from a midfield trailing position leaving the 800-metre mark. Began to give ground leaving the 300 metres before hanging inwards and pacing roughly near the 200 metres while weakening, which resulted in trailing runners being checked. Reinstated in the mobile barrier draw after satisfying QRIC requirements by completing two (2) consecutive successful mobile starts.
Race 3 – GARRARDS HORSE & HOUND PACE 1780M [MS]
CONVAIR HUSTLER NZ (Trent Moffat) – Raced three-wide during the early stages and was inclined to hang inwards rounding the first turn before working forward to occupy the position outside the leader near the 1450-metre mark. Commenced to weaken over the final 450 metres of the event.
BOKHARI (Dale Larpent)– Hung inwards entering the first turn, resulting in its sulky wheel making contact with a marker peg. Queried driver tactics.
General:
Dale Larpent, driver of BOKHARI was questioned regarding his decision to shift wider from a position behind the leader leaving the 600-metre mark. This move resulted in BOKHARI being held up shortly thereafter behind CONVAIR HUSTLER NZ and subsequently failing to finish off over the concluding stages. Mr Larpent explained that he elected to shift wider at that point as he was of the opinion that KEAYANG TARA, which he was trailing, was under pressure. He further stated that he believed CONVAIR HUSTLER NZ, racing outside the leader, was travelling better and therefore chose to improve wider. However, shortly after shifting out, CONVAIR HUSTLER NZ came under pressure and began to weaken, resulting in BOKHARI being held up and unable to run on over the concluding stages. A post-race veterinary examination of BOKHARI revealed no abnormalities. After reviewing the patrol footage, Stewards considered that while Mr Larpent may have erred in his judgment, the actions did not meet the pre-requisite level to sustain a charge of an unacceptable drive. The explanation was noted.

LULU LUCIFER (Lola Weidemann)– Hung outwards in the score-up, momentarily locking sulky wheels with BURNS BAY (Brendan Barnes). Raced three-wide in the early stages before working forward to the position outside the leader leaving the 1400 metres, then obtained one-out one-back cover from BURNS BAY near the 1300 metres.
BURNS BAY (Brendan Barnes) – Locked sulky wheels momentarily with LULU LUCIFER (Lola Weidemann) during the score-up when that runner hung outwards. Caught wide near the rear of the field in the early stages before progressing forward to obtain the position outside the leader near the 1300 metres. Gave ground over the final 500 metres to be beaten 72 metres, finishing ninth and last. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Stewards deemed the performance of BURNS BAY below the required standard and advised connections that the gelding would be placed on its last chance to race competitively.
THREE MACHS (Leonard Cain)– Hung inwards when turning out of the back straight on the first occasion, resulting in the sulky wheel contacting a marker peg.

Despite this, the gelding was able to fill its allotted gate position at the start. Connections were advised that a last chance in the mobile draw would be placed on the gelding. Tired badly over the final 750 metres and was ultimately tailed off, finishing eighth and last. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be displaying thumps.
