Kiss On The Beach (Mathew Neilson) Stewards questioned connections regarding the somewhat improved performance of the mare in tonight’s race. Driver Mathew Neilson explained the mare was able to step well from the front line draw and take advantage by leading. He said when he was able to rate a slower second sectional of 30.8 seconds, the favourite and what connections considered the main danger in the race Little Bolt progressed to his outside, he was able to quicken the tempo to a 28.2 sectional for the third quarter before holding off Little Bolt and Artful Maid in the run to the finish. Mr Neilsen further explained that the race was run to suit Kiss On The Beach which he said can race keenly particularly in mobile races when used early at the start to gain a forward position. The explanation was noted.

Mach Torque (Brendan Barnes) raced in a rearward marker peg position, hung in and contacted marker pegs on entrance to the back straight on the final occasion, and tired out to finish in last position beaten 74 metres. Connections were advised that the mare would be placed on its last chance to race competitively.

Race 5 – MEMBERS DRAW WINNER TEGAN STACE PACE    1780M

Stewards directed a veterinary examination be carried out on the filly which revealed no significant findings. Trainer Ken Belford explained the filly had worked well leading up to the race and he expected a forward showing. He said Rockin Chicka will be closely monitored in the ensing days and should anything come to light that may explain the disappointing performance, he would contact Stewards accordingly.

Agent Callan (Doug Hewitt) it was noted Doug Hewitt's left foot momentarily slipped from the sulky rest on entrance to the home straight but was immediately returned to the footrest.

Left To Rocknroll (Ricky Gordon) Stewards inquired into the driving tactics adopted in particular the amount of pressure applied to the mare in the first lap of the race, and further exertion placed on Left To Rocknroll to maintain the lead when pressured by the favoured runner One Last Roll in the front straight with one lap remaining. Driver Ricky Gordon explained he took advantage of the mare stepping well in the lead and further explained Left To Rocknroll lost interest after being crossed by One Last Roll. A post race veterinary examination of the mare failed to reveal any abnormalities. After considering the quick early sectionals recorded by Left To Rocknroll and the challenge to maintain the lead, and the assessment of the mare’s current race form, Ricky Gordon was charged pursuant to AHR rule 149 (2) for driving in an unacceptable manner by placing undue exertion on Left To Rocknroll which was detrimental to the mares finishing placing. Mr Gordon was found in breach of the rule and his licence to drive in races was suspended for a period of three weeks. In assessing the matter of penalty Stewards took into account his good record under this rule. Stewards directed this term of suspension commence 13 June 2024.

Feeling The Power (Andrew Millard) reared at the start and then bucked when driver Andrew Millard was attempting to return the gelding to its gait. As a result the gelding lost considerable ground and took no competitive part in the race.  Stewards advised that Feeling The Power will be excluded from the barrier draw in future standing starts.

Cheddar Made Beta NZ (Nathan Dawson) galloped at the start and will be excluded from the barrier draw in future standing starts.

Letterkenny Boy (Brad Millard) shifted out marginally leaving the 500 metres and brushed the near side foreleg of Cheddar Made Better resulting in Letterkenny Boy sustaining a flat tyre from that point.
