Supplementary Report:

John Boserio, trainer of THE GROGMOTHER was questioned in regard to the late driving change on THE GROGMOTHER in race 4 at tonight’s meeting after the prescribed time. After taking evidence from Mr Boserio, Stewards excepted the explanation tendered and took the matter no further. Due to driver Pete McMullen being unavailable to take driving engagement at tonight’s meeting. Stewards approved the following late driver change;

Race 4;  THE GROGMOTHER  –  Brendan Barnes

Race 1 - HUSTLER RAPTOR PACE     1780M  [MS]

Candykane (Leonard Cain) Gate speed however, was unable to hold the lead in the early stages after strongly challenged by SHE OWNS THE DAY (Jordan Topping) and as a result raced behind the leader for the remainder up until utilizing the sprint lane in the run to the finish.   

Mach Torque (Brendan Barnes) Hung-inwards whilst weakening passing the 200metres, resulting in the inside sulky wheel contacting and dislodging a marker peg and a warning was issued.

Mister Hart (Bryse McElhinney) Failed to obtain clear running in the latter stages of the home straight in the run to the finish and was not fully tested to the line.

She Owns The Day (Jordan Topping) Was successful in strongly challenging for the lead in the early stages to lead the event.  

Spellmakers Charm (Angus Garrard) Commenced a three-wide run late from the rear of the field leaving the 750metres.

Bertils Firefox (John Kerr) Slow to muster speed after the start. Inside sulky wheel contacted two(2) marker pegs on the turn into the front straight on the first occasion and subsequently driver was reprimanded [AHRR163(1)(c)(ii] and advised to take greater care. Held-up and inconvenienced behind the weakening MACH TORQUE leaving the 400metres until obtaining clear running near the 250metres, finishing strongly once clear.

Funnily Enough (Zac Chappenden) Hung-inwards on the final turn in the run to the finish, resulting in the inside sulky wheel contacting a marker peg and a warning was issued. 

Miss Pau (Gary Litzow) Was held-up for a run in the early stages of the home straight before obtaining clear running late in the run to the finish.

General:

John Kerr, driver of BERTILS FIREFOX was reprimanded under the provisions of AHR Rule163(1)(c)(ii) for carelessly allowing his inside sulky wheel to contact two(2) marker pegs on the turn into the front straight on the first occasion.   

Race 2  - LADBROKES EASY FORM PACE     2280M  [MS]

Rocknroll Times (Alanah Richardson) Held-up and checked behind the tiring BLUE SUEDE ROCKA leaving the 400metres.

Blue Suede Rocka (Bryse McElhinney) Having not started in a race since 11 December 2023, in accordance with QRIC guidelines, the gelding was examined before the race by the veterinarian which revealed no apparent abnormalities. Trainer reprimanded for presenting the gelding to race in incorrect gear [AHRR273(6)(b)]. Gate speed to lead the event prior to hanging-in on the turn into the back straight on the final occasion, resulting in the inside sulky wheel contacting marker pegs before tiring over the final 400metres, beaten in excess of 45metres into ninth and last placing. Stewards directed a post-race veterinary examination, which failed to detect any significant findings. When questioned regarding the overall performance of BLUE SUEDE ROCKA, driver and trainer’s representative Bryse McElhinney stated BLUE SUEDE ROCKA had been a recent addition to the stable and were pleased going into the event first up after two(2) recent solid trial efforts since not starting in a race since 11 December 2023. However after showing gate speed and finding the lead in the early stages, the gelding commenced to contact the sulky with its hind legs as a consequence the gelding over-raced and failed to settle thereafter which effected its chances to be able to finish the race off. Mr McElhinney further stating the gelding to be slightly disappointing however would derive benefit from the performance and would be his intentions to advise trainer D Hewitt to confine the future starts of BLUE SUEDE ROCKA to the shorter trips. After considering the explanation provided by Mr McElhinney, Stewards noted his comments for future reference however placed a warning on the gelding for hanging-in and contacting marker pegs, in addition, Mr McElhinney was advised to take the necessary corrective action regarding the horse contacting the sulky so as to prevent a reoccurrence in the future.  

Euro Beat NZ (Jack Chapple) Failed to take part in the preliminary circle.  

Don Arthur (Chloe Butler) Reinstated in the barrier draw for races conducted under mobile start conditions after satisfying QRIC requirements with completion of two(2) successful consecutive mobile starts.    

San Marea (Ben Battle) Broke in the early stages of the score-up, however filled its allotted gate position prior to the candy pole and a warning was issued. Held-up and checked behind the tiring BLUE SUEDE ROCKA leaving the 400metres.

Johnson Step NZ (Nathan Rothwell) Inclined to pull hard during the score-up.

Makara NZ (Mitchell Cox) Inclined to hang-out during the latter stages of the score-up, placing the gelding out of position when the start was effected and a warning was issued. Commenced a three-wide mid race move from a rearward trailing position near the 1450metres, working forward to cross to the position outside of the leader passing the 1300metres.   

General:

Trainer Doug Hewitt was reprimanded for starting BLUE SUEDE ROCKA without the correct registered gear [AHR Rule273(6)(b)].

Race 3 - GARRARDS HORSE & HOUND PACE     2040M  [MS]

Roll One Over (Bryse McElhinney) Beaten for speed shortly after the start.

Cornish Smuggler (Damon Watson) Overraced and pulled hard during the middle stages of the event when racing in the position behind the leader. Held-up and checked behind the weakening KEAYANG LADYBUG leaving the 400metres in addition continued to be held-up in the early stages of the home straight before obtaining clear running in the run to the finish.   

Keayang Ladybug (David Druitt) Gate speed to initially race outside the leader before working forward to attain the lead position passing the winning post with two(2) laps remaining. Inside sulky wheel contacted a marker peg whilst leading upon turning into the back straight on the final occasion prior to weakening over the final 400metres of the event. Driver reprimanded contacting a marker peg [AHRR163(1)(c)(ii] and advised to take greater care.  

Ace Lombo (Brian Letton) Caught-wide in the early stages of the event before working forward to attain the position outside the leader passing the winning post with two(2) laps remaining before obtaining one-out one-back cover from BRIAN CHRISTOPHER NZ (Brendan Barnes) approaching the 1300metres.

Brian Christopher NZ (Brendan Barnes) Caught four-wide initially after the start before working forward three-wide in the early stages to attain the position outside the leader approaching the 1300metres where raced for the remainder.

General:

David Druitt, driver of KEAYANG LADYBUG was reprimanded under the provisions of AHR Rule163(1)(c)(ii) for carelessly allowing his inside sulky wheel to contact a marker peg on the turn into the back straight on the final occasion whilst leading the event.  

Race 4 - WOLF SIGNS PACE     1780M  [MS]

Music Moth (Chloe Butler) Successfully withstood a strong brief challenge for the lead from THE GROGMOTHER (Brendan Barnes) in the early stages to lead the event. Hung-inwards rounding the first turn after the start, resulting in the inside sulky wheel contacting marker pegs and a warning was issued. Inclined to hang-in at various stages in the event whilst leading.   

She Dazzles (Leonard Cain) Broke free of interference near the 450metres when racing in a midfield marker-line position. After considering a good record in this regard, connections were advised SHE DAZZLES would be placed on its last chance to race truly.

The Grogmother (Brendan Barnes) Gate speed however, was unsuccessful after issuing a strong brief challenge for the lead in the early stages and as a result was obliged to race leading the one-wide line until obtaining one-out one-back cover from BALBOA SHANNON (Jordan Topping) near the 1100metres.

Goodtime Cracker (Adam Richardson) Caught-wide in the early stages and after failing to obtain a more forward position in the event, the gelding was restrained to the rear of the field.      

The Harris Hawk (Angus Garrard) Commenced a three-wide run late with no cover from a midfield trailing position leaving the 750metres.

Mach Brilliance (Trent Moffat) Raced keenly and ungenerously prior to commencing to yield ground quickly from the 600 metres to finish a distant ninth and last beaten in excess of 64 metres. Stewards directed a post-race veterinary examination which revealed no apparent abnormalities. Driver T Moffat reported the mare choked down when racing keenly during the race. Connections were advised MACH BRILLIANCE will be stood down from racing until a satisfactory trial is performed.

Wandary Delight (Ben Battle) Having not started in a race since 4 October 2023, in accordance with QRIC guidelines, the mare was examined before and after the race by the veterinarian which revealed no apparent abnormalities. Utilized the sprint lane in the run to the finish.

Balboa Shannon (Jordan Topping) Failed to take part in the preliminary circle. Inclined to pull hard during the score-up. Left a midfield trailing position near the 1250metres to improve three-wide during the middle stages to cross to the position outside the leader near the 1100metres before weakening over the concluding stages of the event.  

Race 5 - STEVIE REDBACK PEST CONTROL PACE     1780M  [MS]

Rosarito (Chloe Butler) Hung-inwards whilst racing behind the leader on the turn out of the back straight on the first and final occasions, resulting in the inside sulky wheel contacting marker pegs and a warning was issued. Contacted marker pegs rounding the final turn when racing tight to the inside of runners before weakening over the concluding stages.

Guy Looks Good (Damon Watson) Weakened over the concluding stages of the event.

So Bobs Your Uncle NZ (Nathan Rothwell) Gate speed however, raced three-wide in the early stages, progressing forward to attain the lead position near the 1350metres, where raced for the remainder.

Joe Cavalier (Angus Garrard) Commenced a trailing three-wide run late from a rearward trailing position leaving the winning post with a lap remaining.  

Tactfilly Miracle (Adam Richardson) Commenced a trailing three-wide run late from the rear of the field leaving the winning post with a lap remaining.

Tinsel Tiara (Matthew Clayton) Hung-inwards on the turn into the back straight on the first occasion when racing in a midfield marker line position, resulting in the inside sulky wheel contacting and dislodging a marker peg and a warning was issued.

Emmaleen (Dean Belford) Commenced a three-wide run late with no cover from a midfield trailing position leaving the winning post with a lap remaining.  

Race 6 - SECTIONALS & RATINGS AT SULKY.APP PACE     1780M  [MS]

Chang (Angus Garrard) Beaten for speed shortly after the start.

Always At Night (Anna Payne) Weakened over the concluding stages of the event.

Baby Ginnie (Gary Litzow) Commenced a trailing three-wide run from the rear of the field leaving the winning post with a lap remaining before forced out into a four-wide position prior to turning into the back straight on the final occasion when OLD ENGLISH (Justin Pascoe) shifted out to its inside. Inside sulky wheel contacted and dislodged a marker peg on the final turn into the home straight and subsequently driver was reprimanded [AHRR163(1)(c)(ii] and advised to take greater care.

General:

Stewards enquired into the reason that BABY GINNIE (Gary Litzow) was obligated to race in a four-wide position prior to turning into the back straight on the final occasion. After taking evidence from Drivers Gary Litzow (BABY GINNIE) and Justin Pascoe (OLD ENGLISH) and viewing of the official race patrol footage, Driver Justin Pascoe was found guilty of a charge under AHR Rule163(1)(b)(i) for forcing another runner wider in that prior to turning into the back straight on the final occasion, permitted his runner to shift from the running line to a three-wide position forcing BABY GINNIE to be placed in a four-wide position for a short distance all that before the designated ease out post. In assessing penalty, Stewards took into account J Pascoe’s extremely good driving record with regards to this rule and the circumstances of the incident. Driver J Pascoe had his license to drive in races suspended for a period of 10 days to commence at midnight the 7th of July 2024.

Gary Litzow, driver of BABY GINNIE was reprimanded under the provisions of AHR Rule163(1)(c)(ii) for carelessly allowing his inside sulky wheel to contact and dislodge a marker peg on the final turn into the home straight.    

Race 7 - DOOLITTLE LODGE PACE     1780M  [MS]

Gotta Dream (Adam Richardson) Inside sulky wheel contacted and dislodged a marker peg whilst leading on the turn into the back straight on the final occasion and subsequently driver was reprimanded [AHRR163(1)(c)(ii] and advised to take greater care.

Deep Regret (John Stariha) Shifted wider simultaneously to HIGHLY RESPECTED shifting in and sulky contacted and off-side flat tyre sustained near the 550metres.

Major Lincoln (Ben Battle) Caught-wide in the early stages of the event before working forward to obtain the position outside the leader approaching the 1300metres.

Tulhurst Smoocher (Jordan Topping) Hang-out noticeably during the latter stages of the score-up, placing the mare out of position when the start was effected and connections were advised TULHURST SMOOCHER would be placed on its last chance in the draw. Held up for clear running in the latter stages of the home straight and was not fully tested to the line.  

Aunty Frances (Angus Garrard) Hung-inwards on the turn into the back straight on the first occasion when racing behind the leader, resulting in the inside sulky wheel contacting and dislodging a marker peg and a warning was issued.

Hollywoodbound (Zac Chappenden)Utilized the sprint lane in the run to the finish.

Highly Respected (Chloe Butler) Contacted and punctured the offside tyre of DEEP REGRET (John Stariha) near the 550metres when that gelding shifted out simultaneously to HIGHLY RESPECTED shifting in.

General:

Adam Richardson, driver of GOTTA DREAM was reprimanded under the provisions of AHR Rule163(1)(c)(ii) for carelessly allowing his inside sulky wheel to contact and dislodge a marker peg on the turn into the back straight on the final occasion.   

Race 8 - BURWOOD STUD PACE     1780M  [MS]

Lord Denzel (Anna Payne) Hung-inwards on the turn into the back straight on the final occasion, resulting in the inside sulky wheel contacting marker pegs and a warning was issued. Yielded ground over the concluding stages of the event. No action was taken on the gelding’s beaten margin of 72.2metres, due to the margins between placings.  

Sarie Marais (Gary Litzow) Held-up and inconvenienced behind the tiring LORD DENZEL leaving the 400metres.

Beau Hart (Bryse McElhinney) Caught-wide in the early stages before working forward to obtain the position leading the one-wide line near the 1500metres, where raced for the remainder up until hanging in and paced roughly as a result near the 200metres whilst yielding ground. No action was taken on the gelding’s beaten margin of 59.2metres, due to the margins between placings.  

Jukebox Jet (Amanda Payne) Having not started in a race since 17 January 2024, in accordance with QRIC guidelines, the gelding was examined before and after the race by the veterinarian which revealed no apparent abnormalities. Caught-wide in the early stages and was restrained to the rear of the field.       

Night Shadow (Brendan Barnes) Commenced a trailing three-wide run from a rearward trailing position leaving the 900metres.   

Frame Drive (Jordan Topping) Held-up and inconvenienced behind the tiring LORD DENZEL leaving the 400metres. Checked near the 200meters as a result of BEAU HART hanging in and pacing roughly.

Saint Louis Beat (Trent Moffat) Commenced a three-wide run with no cover from a midfield trailing position leaving the 900metres.

Floorless (Aaron Smith) Commenced a trailing three-wide run from a rearward trailing position leaving the 900metres.

Race 9 - COMFORT INN NORTHGATE PACE     1780M  [MS]

Pennies Following (Dan Russell) Weakened over the concluding stages of the event after leading throughout.

Jamaican Resort (Trent Moffat) Checked in the early stages of the score-up as a result of LEFT TO ROCKNROLL hanging-out abruptly. Broke free of interference near the 350metres. After taking into consideration the recent racing record of JAMAICAN RESORT in this regard, connections were advised the gelding will be required to complete 2(two) satisfactory requalifying trials prior to recommencing racing.   

Todays Hero (Angus Garrard) Checked and broke gait as a result in the early stages of the score-up after LEFT TO ROCKNROLL hang-out abruptly. Gate speed however, raced three-wide in the early stages, progressing forward to obtain the position leading the one-wide line near the 1450metres, where raced until weakening over the concluding stages of the event.  

Convair Hustler NZ (Hannah Anforth) Raced four-wide initially after the start however after failing to obtain a more forward position in the event, the gelding overraced and pulled exceedingly hard until being restrained to the rear of the field near the 950metres.       

Devouged (Brendan Barnes) Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination at the trainer’s request. On inspection Dr S Flynn found DEVOUGED to have increased gut sounds and looseness of the bowels. DEVOUGED was deemed a late scratching at 6:16pm on veterinary advice. Stewards implemented the veterinary recommendation and advised connections the gelding will be stood down for a period of 7(seven) days.

My Ultimate Heston (Gary Litzow) Inclined to hang-out during the score-up and a warning was issued.

Left To Rocknroll (Ricky Gordon) Hung out abruptly in the early stages of the score-up resulting in runners being checked and connections were advised the mare would be placed on its last chance in the draw.

Race 10 - ELDERS PROPERTY MANAGEMENT PACE     1780M  [MS]

Takidah (Angus Garrard) Broke in the score up and was out of position at the start. Failed to return to a pace and was subsequently retired from the race. Connections were advised the mare will be excluded from the barrier draw in future mobile events until Stewards are satisfied it can perform in the desired manner, in addition, stood down pending a satisfactory mobile trial.

Sporty Azz (Jordan Topping) Utilized the sprint lane in the run to the finish. Driver fined unapproved whip use [AHRR156(2)(a)].

Major Mischief (Leonard Cain) Reinstated in the barrier draw for races conducted under mobile start conditions after satisfying QRIC requirements with completion of two(2) successful consecutive mobile starts.  

Pablos Art (Damon Watson) Yielded ground over the concluding stages of the event.

Caribbean Rocket (Trent Moffat) Weakened over the concluding stages of the event.

General:

Jordan Topping, driver of SPORTY AZZ was fined the sum of $400 under the provisions of AHR Rule156(2)(a) for using her whip with an action that was more than a wrist only flicking motion in the home straight in the run to the finish. In the matter of penalty, Stewards noting this being Jordan Topping’s second offence within a 56day period.
