Race 1 - MAZDA ASPLEY PACE     1780M  [MS]

SUBTLE CHAY (Leonard Cain) – Failed to obtain clear running in the home straight in the run to the finish and was not fully tested to the line.

ACE LOMBO (Brian Letton) – Showed gate speed however, raced three-wide initially in the early stages prior to working forward taking over the position outside the leader turning into the back straight on the first occasion. Momentarily tightened for racing room near the 250metres when racing to the inside of TREACHEROUS GABBY which hung-in before weakening over the concluding stages of the event.  

BLING THE LUCK (Shane Graham) – Caught-wide in the early stages and was restrained to the rear of the field leaving the 1500metres. Commenced a three-wide run late with no cover from the rear of the field leaving the winning post with a lap remaining before gaining three-wide cover leaving the 800metres.       

WANDARY DELIGHT (Nathan Dawson) – Utilized the sprint lane in the run to the finish.

TREACHEROUS GABBY (Adam Richardson) – Hung-in whilst commencing a three-wide run late with no cover from a midfield trailing position leaving the 800metres. Hung-in furthermore near the 250metres whilst racing in a three-wide position, momentarily placing ACE LOMBO in restricted racing room.

MONTEREY JACK NZ (Jonah Hutchinson) – A pre and post-race veterinary examination was conducted by the veterinarian, due to the gelding being 12 years of age. Both examinations revealed no apparent abnormalities. Momentarily tightened for racing room turning out of the front straight on the final occasion when TREACHEROUS GABBY hung-in whilst commencing a three-wide run.

Race 2 – GARRARDS HERE ON TRACK PACE     1780M  [MS]

LUXURY LAD (Layne Dwyer) – Momentarily inconvenienced in the early stages of the score-up when struck from behind by HAZZA IS WATCHING (Chloe Butler) which was pulling extremely hard in the score-up. Driver Layne Dwyer was queried into the overall performance of the gelding, which after starting a $1.40 favourite in the event, finished in 5th placing beaten 6metres after leading throughout. Mr Dwyer advised the gelding to be disappointing and could offer no tangible explanation for the performance other than the gelding was inclined to race keenly in the event whilst leading which may have effected its chances to be able to finish the race off.

COTE DAZUR NZ (Mathew Neilson) – Had difficulty securing clear running over the latter stages of the home straight in the run to the finish and was not fully tested to the line.

THERESACHANCE (Shane Graham) – Caught-wide in the early stages and was restrained to the rear of the field. Weakened over the concluding stages of the event.        

HAZZA IS WATCHING (Chloe Butler) – Pulled extremely hard during the early stages of the score-up, contacting the back of the sulky of LUXURY LAD when drawn behind that runner before momentarily breaking gait, placing the gelding out of its allotted gate position at the candy pole however, was in position by the start. Connections were advised HAZZA IS WATCHING will be placed on its last chance in the mobile draw. Driver Chloe Butler right foot momentarily slipped from the sulky foot rest whilst utilizing the sprint lane in the run to the finish however was quickly returned to the foot rest and no action was taken except to remind her of her obligations under the rules.

THE VIXEN NZ (Jack Chapple) – Utilized the sprint lane in the run to the finish.

MODERN SHEEN (Nathan Dawson) – Worked through from its second row draw after the start, racing three-wide in the early stages before obtaining the position outside the leader approaching the 1450metres, where raced for the remainder.

General:

Stewards inquired into the reasons for Layne Dwyer, driver of LUXURY LAD failing to check-in at the all-clear for 5th placing post-race. After hearing the evidence tendered by Mr Dwyer, no further action was taken, except to remind him of his obligations to check-in post-race.

Race 3 - LADBROKES BLACKBOOK UP TO NR70 PACE     2280M  [MS]

MONSIEUR DELACOUR (Bryse McElhinney) – Driver fined unapproved whip use [AHRR156(3)].

WOW YOU CAN DANCE (Adam Richardson) – Driver fined unapproved whip use [AHRR156(2)].  

ESCOBAR NZ (Brendan Barnes) – Broke gait in the early stages of the score-up, however was in position when the start was effected. Connections were advised ESCOBAR NZ will continue to be excluded from the barrier draw in future mobile starts until Stewards are satisfied the gelding can perform in the desired manner. Raced three-wide initially after the start before progressing forward to attain the position outside the leader near the 1900metres, where raced for the remainder.

HAY THERE JOE (Layne Dwyer) – Driver fined unapproved whip use [AHRR156(2)].

OBI ONE NZ (Chloe Butler) – Utilized the sprint lane in the run to the finish.

General:

BRYSE MCELHINNEY, driver of Monsieur Delacour was fined the sum of $200 under AHR Rule 156 (3) for applying the whip in a continuous manner over the concluding stages of the event.

ADAM RICHARDSON, driver of Wow You Can Dance was fined the sum of $200 under AHR Rule 156 (2) for engaging the shoulder and elbow when applying the whip in the concluding stages.

LAYNE DWYER, driver of Hay There Joe was fined the sum of $200 under AHR Rule 156 (2) for applying the whip with overt force whilst engaging the shoulder and elbow in the concluding stages.

Race 4 - HUSTLER SUPER X PACE     2040M  [MS]

ASHLEE NITRO (Nathan Dawson) – Commenced a trailing three-wide run late from a rearward trailing position leaving the winning post with a lap remaining.

BLACKJACK BART (Jack Chapple) – Caught-wide in the early stages of the event before progressing forward to obtain the position outside the leader passing the winning post with two(2) laps remaining.  

DIEGO DELGADO (Matt Elkins) – Overraced and pulled hard during the early and middle stages of the event, whilst racing at the rear of the field.

ROYAL WINKLE (Leonard Cain) – Commenced a three-wide run late with no cover from a midfield trailing position leaving the winning post with a lap remaining.

Race 5 – DAN COSTELLO PHOTOGRAPHY PACE     1780M  [MS]

HEAVENS BABY (Leonard Cain) – Utilized the sprint lane in the run to the finish.

SARIE MARAIS (Ricky Gordon) – Yielded ground over the final 600metres of the event.

LARA BAY (Matt Elkins) – Returned having cast its off-hind plate.

BAHAMAS MISS (Zac Chappenden) – Caught-wide in the initial stages of the event, before momentarily racing in restricted room rounding the first turn as a result of TORQUE IN CONTROL (Chloe Butler) hanging-in prior to the mare restraining to the rear of the field. Gave ground over the final 500metres of the event to ultimately be beaten 80metres into ninth and last placing. An examination by the veterinarian subsequent to the race found no significant findings at time of examination. Stewards deemed the performance of BAHAMAS MISS below the required standard and subsequently connections were advised the mare will be placed on its last chance to race competitively.    

TORQUE IN CONTROL (Chloe Butler)Caught-wide after the start and hung-in rounding the first turn before racing three-wide in the early stages however, after failing to obtain a more forward position in the event, the mare was restrained to the rear of the field. Commenced a three-wide move from the rear of the field leaving the 1000metres, progressing forward before gaining three-wide cover late leaving the winning post with a lap remaining.

BLISSFULL IDENTITY (Nathan Dawson) – Commenced a three-wide run late with no cover from a rearward trailing position leaving the winning post with a lap remaining.

Race 6 - WOLF SIGNS PACE (SKY 2)     1780M  [MS]

THREE CHORD RIFF (Clint Sneddon) – Commenced a three-wide run late with no cover from a midfield trailing position leaving the 700metres. Hung-in on the turn out of the back straight on the final occasion when progressing forward in a three-wide position.

CHARLEVOIX (Zac Chappenden) – Commenced a three-wide run late with no cover from the rear of the field leaving the home straight on the final occasion before gaining three-wide cover leaving the 700metres.

JANG PEL (Amanda Payne) – Caught-wide in the early stages prior to working forward to obtain the position outside the leader near the 1350metres, where raced up until yielding ground over the final 400metres of the event to ultimately be beaten in excess of 42metres into ninth and last placing. An examination by the veterinarian subsequent to the race found no abnormalities at time of examination.    

DIAMOND DEANO (Leonard Cain) – Caught-wide in the initial stages and was restrained to the rear of the field.       

NUCLEAR BLING (Adam Richardson) – Utilized the sprint lane in the run to the finish.

GOSLING IN FLIGHT (Taleah McMullen) – Overraced and pulled hard during the early and middle stages of the event whilst racing in the position behind the leader. Held-up rounding the final turn before utilizing the sprint lane in the run to the finish.  

TAPTHEKEG (Nathan Dawson) – Inclined to pull hard during the score-up. Overraced and pulled hard during the early and middle stages of the event whilst racing in a three-back marker-line position.

Race 7 – COMFORT INN & SUITES NORTHGATE MAIDEN PACE (SKY 2)     1780M  [MS]

BECKYS DIAMONDS (Nathan Dawson) – Severely checked prior to locking sulky wheels with TAKEN BY SURPRISE (Clint Petroff) leaving the 400metres as a result of NITE IRENE (Clint Sneddon) and OLDGOLD (Brendan Barnes) locking sulky wheels.  

NITE IRENE (Clint Sneddon) Commenced a three-wide run late with no cover from a one-out one-back trailing position leaving the 550metres prior to locking sulky wheels with OLDGOLD (Brendan Barnes) approaching the 400metres resulting in the filly and a number of trailing runners becoming severely checked when sulky’s were not able to be disengaged for a considerable distance.

OLDGOLD (Brendan Barnes) – Raced-wide in the early stages, working forward to obtain the position outside the leader turning into the back straight on the first occasion, where raced up until locking sulky wheels with NITE IRENE (Clint Sneddon) approaching the 400metres resulting in the filly and a number of trailing runners becoming severely checked when sulky’s were not able to be disengaged for a considerable distance.

LITTLE MONKEY (Leonard Cain) – Commenced a three-wide run late with no cover from the rear of the field leaving the 800metres. Severely checked and broke gait leaving the 400metres as a result of NITE IRENE (Clint Sneddon) and OLDGOLD (Brendan Barnes) locking sulky wheels.  

FIFTY EACH WAY (Jack Chapple) –Reinstated in the barrier draw for races conducted under mobile start conditions after satisfying QRIC requirements with the completion of two(2) successful consecutive mobile starts.  

TAKEN BY SURPRISE (Clint Petroff) - Severely checked prior to locking sulky wheels with BECKYS DIAMONDS (Nathan Dawson) leaving the 400metres as a result of NITE IRENE (Clint Sneddon) and OLDGOLD (Brendan Barnes) locking sulky wheels.   

JADEZ (Matt Elkins) – Severely checked with driver Matt Elkins momentarily unseated leaving the 400metres as a result of NITE IRENE (Clint Sneddon) and OLDGOLD (Brendan Barnes) locking sulky wheels.  

OHOKAREDROBINJUJON (Mathew Neilson) – Severely checked and broke gait leaving the 400metres as a result of NITE IRENE (Clint Sneddon) and OLDGOLD (Brendan Barnes) locking sulky wheels.  

General:

Stewards inquired into an incident nearing the 400metres in which Oldgold and Nite Irene locked sulky wheels resulting in a number of trailing runners becoming severely checked leaving the 400metres. After taking evidence from BRENDAN BARNES (Oldgold) and CLINT SNEDDON (Nite Irene) and viewing of the official race patrol footage, it was established that Oldgold which was racing outside the leader in the event was inclined to race greenly and turning out of the back straight on the final occasion slightly shifted-out, simultaneously, Nite Irene which was racing in a three-wide position outside of Oldgold, marginally shifted-in turning out of the back straight on the final occasion resulting in both runners locking sulky wheels approaching the 400metres. Stewards determined the incident was a result of a combination of shifts from Oldgold and Nite Irene which caused the incident and no blame was attributed to one particular horse or driver.
