Trainers with multiple runners in any one race provided Stewards with their intentions prior to the event.

RACE 1 – LAUCKE MILLS PACE – 1609MS

MY ULTIMATE HARRY - Utilised sprint lane when it became available and was fully tested in the final straight.

CROOKWELL JAKE – Raced three wide for the majority of the event then tired over the concluding stages to eventually be beaten 41.0 metres. Stewards questioned driver K. Weidenbach regarding the tactics he adopted, in particular his decision to remain three wide throughout the event. Mr Weidenbach explained he was under instructions from the stable to go forward on the gelding, however, he soon realised the position outside the leader was not available, he then believed it was more advantageous to sit quietly three wide, over the 1609 meters, as going back to last was not going to give the gelding any chance. Stewards noted his comments, however, suggested that his drive lacked judgement, as at least by going back to last and sitting at the rear of the field, would have enabled CROOKWELL JAKE to finish with the main body of the field and not tire in the manner it did. Stewards reprimanded A. Ward (stable representative) under AHRR 135(2) for not having his runner on track by the prescribed time, which was due to A. Ward harnessing up the wrong horse for Race 1 and once advised by the starter, when checking all runners’ brands, he quickly had to put the harness on the right horse. Stewards advised A. Ward that in the future he is not to accept responsibility for other trainers horses and Stewards would not approve any request by trainers.

NITEONTHETOWN – Utilised sprint lane when it became available and was fully tested in the final straight.

STEREOPHONIC – Driver M. Smith was fined $100 under Rule 156(2)(a) for using the whip with more than a flicking action.

RACE 2 – MIDSTATE HARDWARE PACE – 1609MS

BOHEMIAN BRAIDS - Utilised sprint lane when it became available and was fully tested in the final straight.

PARADIGM – Broke gait free of interference shortly after the start was effected, will be drawn wide for future mobile start events.

LINXX - Utilised sprint lane when it became available and was fully tested in the final straight.

NEDS BEACH NZ - Utilised sprint lane when it became available and was fully tested in the final straight.

STARLIGHT SASS – Checked shortly after the start, when PARADIGM broke gait in advance of him.

RACE 3 – RISDON HOTEL PACE – 1609MS

THE NOTORIOUS R B G NZ - Hung in and contacted marker pegs near the 200 metres, a warning was issued.

THE TOOTH FAIRLY – Showed gate speed and work forward to the lead, however, Driver D. Whelan then elected to take a trail on the back of THE NOTORIOUS R B G NZ near the 900 metres. Tired over the concluding stages to eventually be beaten 38.0 metres.

ROLL WITH MUSTARD - Had difficulty finding a clear run between the 400 metres and 200 metres, however, when clear fully tested in the final straight.

HEATHBERN BRUCE – Out of position as the start was effected, a warning was issued.

RACE 4 – KNIBBS OUTDOOR IMPROVEMENTS PACE – 1609MS

PIRATESOF ZANZIBAR – Showed gate speed to lead the event, however, Driver S. Turner elected to take a trail on the back of WELL WELL near the 1400 metres.

CLARENDEN VICTORY – Tired over the concluding stages to eventually be beaten 31.0 metres.

TRIGGER – Had difficulty finding a clear run between the 400 metres and 200 metres, however, when clear fully tested in the final straight.

AUCKLAND LASS - Utilised sprint lane when it became available and was fully tested in the final straight.

RACE 5 – S.D. CAPUTO & SONS PACE – 2050MS

CLASSIC ANGELINA – Gave ground from the 400 metres, to eventually be beaten 81.0 metres. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities. Stewards deemed the performance unsatisfactory and stood the mare down until the completion of one satisfactory requalifying trial.

RACE 6 – RACE TECH HORSE SUPPLIES PACE – 1609MS

RIDE ON JOHNNY – Was fractious during the score up, a warning was issued.
