DELIGHTFUL MAJOR NZ – Had difficulty finding a clear run between the 400 metres and the 200 metres of the event, utilised the sprint lane when it became available and was fully tested in the final straight. Stewards questioned driver C. Johnson regarding the tactics he adopted, in particular his decision to remain four back on the marker pegs, when there appeared to be an opportunity to move to the one wide line near the 1100 metres, however, he elected to remain on the marker pegs and was then held up on the final turn. C. Johnson stated that considering recent performances where DELIGHTFUL MAJOR NZ had been asked to lead up the one wide line in the final 900 to 1000 metres the gelding had not finished off its races and finished worse than mid field. Also, the fact the first quarter was run in such slow time, it was always going to be difficult to make ground when going wider on the track. Stewards questioned trainer D. Harding and he gave similar views as the driver but said he did not give any explicit instruction. Stewards noted the explanation of driver C. Johnson.
