PEAKSART– Shifted in after the start and tightened NAVUA COMMANCHE for racing room.  Driver Mick Bolam was advised to exercise more care in future in similar circumstances.  Driver Mick Bolam was queried into his driving tactics, of concern to the Stewards was after the gelding began quickly from the mobile and raced in a forward position outside the leader did race on equal terms with the leader throughout the event and upon entry to the home straight was being tapped up to again move forward in quarters of 30.8 and 30.2.  Mr Bolam stated the pre-race instructions were to go forward on the gelding.  Mr Bolam  believed that the gelding was travelling well within itself and felt no need to restrain at that stage.  On reflection of the event he did however feel that the early sectionals may have been faster than he had anticipated and may have contributed to the gelding weakening over the concluding stages of the event to be beaten 22.5 metres.  Stewards considered the overall performance of PEAKSART, the comments and inexperience of driver Mr Bolam that he had erred in judgement for his drive on PEAKSART but not culpable to the degree to warrant any further action be taken and noted his comments.
