RACE 1 – DEANS HYDRAULICS PACE – 1660 metres

TEN GALLON– Pre-race blood sample. Post-race swab sample.

BETTING RANGER– Driver L Rusten was queried on her driving tactics throughout the event where the gelding was caught racing three wide in the early stages before working forward to obtain a position in the running line, when unable to do so was obliged to race three wide for the remainder of the event until tiring over the final 400 metres to finish in 10th and last position beaten 32.2 metres. L Rusten stated when racing three wide in the early stages the gelding began to over race so she let the gelding stride forward hoping for the position outside the leader. When improving to the outside of A MAJOR STAR NZ($1.60fav) at the 1200 metres that runner increased the speed. Ms Rusten added she applied pressure to A MAJOR STAR NZ($1.60fav in the hope it would work forward to the lead, when that didn`t occur she restrained at the 800 metres to remain racing three wide until yielding ground at the 400 metres due to the hard run. Stewards advised Ms Rusten in their opinion that she erred in the early stages by working forward when it would be reasonable to think the position outside the leader when occupied by A MAJOR STAR NZ($1.60fav) would not be available. Ms Rusten was given a reprimand under rule 149)2) for an unacceptable drive.  A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.

OURSWEETPOG– Had a tendency to over race throughout the event.

BOLD COWBOY– Driver J Reynolds was queried on the overall performance of the gelding which failed to run on over the concluding stages to finish in 9th position beaten 24.9 metres. Mr Reynolds stated the gelding was disappointing in tonight’s event and added that when racing three wide over the final 600 metres the gelding had a tendency to hit its knee and hung in passing the 300 metres locking wheels momentarily with BETTING RANGER, losing momentum and failing to run on from that point.

RACE 2 – PARKES LEAGUES CLUB PACE – 2040 metres

LENNOX BROMAC NZ– After racing in a forward position tired over the final 300 metres to finish in 8th position neaten 46.6 metres.

JAYJAYTESS– Pre-race blood sample. Driver L Rusten was queried on the overall performance of the mare which failed to run on over the concluding stages and finished in 9th position beaten 49.1 metres. Miss Rusten stated the mare had a tendency to over race throughout the event and when approaching the 1000 metres when trailing ESTHER RISING who was looking for cover, was slightly inconvenienced and shifted out to a three wide position, then worked forward to a position outside the leader. When finding that position was disappointing over the final 400 metres where she failed to run on. Miss Rusten further stated as the mare was first up for some time further improvement would be expected in the coming races.

ESTHER RISING– Driver J Locke was queried on the overall performance where the mare tired out of the event to be beaten 198.2 metres. Mr Locke stated the mare was very disappointing although doing more work than expected to obtain the position outside the lead then when passing the 1000 metres when TWENTYEIGHTBLACK improved to its outside he elected to take cover to gain some respite but once doing so the mare was under pressure and dropped out from that point on to be beaten some distance. Trainer representative B Micallef stated the mare would be given a freshen up in the coming weeks. ESTHER RISING will be stood down for one requalifying trial. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.

TWENTYEIGHTBLACK– Post-race swab sample.

HARLEY JAMES– A pre and post-race veterinary examination was conducted as the gelding is 12 years of age. No abnormalities were detected on either examination.

THE HANDSOME ONE– Held up for clear racing room until the final 150 metres.

RACE 4 – BETTA PARKES PACE – 1660 metres

LOGAN REASON– Had a tendency to race roughly shortly after the start.

MAMMALS ALIBI– Post-race swab sample.

FAYS DELIGHT– Leaving the 600 metres had a tendency to hang in contacting marker pegs with Driver E Turnbull becoming unbalanced and lowering her left foot from the sulky rest.

FRONTIER– Pre-race blood sample.

SHEZ A WARRIOR– Driver O Frisby was queried on the overall performance of the mare where it failed to run on over the concluding stages and finished in 7th position beaten 27.5 metres. Miss Frisby stated the mare races best when racing in a forward position and from the second row barrier draw was unable to do so and when making ground from the 600 metres three and four wide failed to respond. Passing the 500 metres when HOLY CAMP PAXTON shifted out from the inside the mare had a tendency to veer away from that runner losing momentum and failed to run on over the concluding stages.

RACE 5 – VALE BRUCE DUMESNY – 1660 metres

ALTA DOWNS– Approaching the 200 metres hung in and contacted marker pegs.

MAN MOUNTIAN– Held up for clear racing room over the final 50 metres.

RACE 7 – CLARINDA PARK IT PACE – 1660 metres

JACKYS HAT– Pre-race blood sample. Negotiating the first turn was checked when BARRYS ROSE broke stride.

KERPAT JOY– Withstood protest from 2nd placegetter BULLI BELLE alleging interference at the 200 metres. Post-race swab sample.

BULLI BELLE– Trainer/Driver M Day Jnr advised Stewards he wished to view the race day footage prior to all clear to ascertain the reason for his runner breaking stride at the 200 metres. After viewing the available race day footage, Mr Day lodged a protest against 1st placegetter KERPAT JOY alleging interference to his runner BULLI BELLE(2nd placegetter) at the 200 metres. After taking oral evidence from Driver L Ruston, Trainer D Ruston and M Day Jnr and viewing the available race day footage, Stewards could not be comfortably satisfied the reason BULLI BELLE broke stride at the 200 metres was caused by KERPAT JOY, also with the margin of 2metres between both runners, had this incident not occurred that the placings wouldn`t have been reversed and as such the protest was dismissed and all clear given on the judges numbers of 4 – 6 – 1 – 3. At a subsequent inquiry a warning was placed on the racing manners of BULLI BELLE for breaking stride at the 200 metres.

BARRYS ROSE– Broke stride entering the first turn. A warning was issued. The number 2 carrying strap broke shortly thereafter. Driver G Lew was questioned on the tactics adopted where after BARRYS ROSE broke stride entering the first turn losing some distance, then when joining the tail of the field he elected to race three wide in an attempt to obtain the position outside the lead and when unable to do so was obliged to race wide for the remainder of the event. Mr Lew stated after breaking stride and losing ground on the first turn the mare when catching the tail of the field at the 1200 metres the pace of the race appeared to have eased and was concerned that BARRYS ROSE may over race and he elected to work forward in attempt to catch the front runners napping. When unable to do so passing the 800 metres the position was not available and decided to remain racing three wide until tiring over the final 500 metres to be beaten 103 metres. Driver G Lew pleaded guilty to a charge under Rule 149(2) for an unacceptable drive in that losing some ground when breaking stride on the first turn it was unacceptable for BARRYS ROSE to be drivenoutside her capabilities by working forward to the position outside the leader when it was reasonable to expect that position to not be available. As a result of Mr Lews tactics the mare tired considerably over the final 500 metres.  G Lew’s licence to drive in races was suspended for a period of 6 weeks. The suspension is to commence midnight 12 June 2024. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.

RACE 8 – THE TAB APP PACE – 1660 metres

MOHAWK PARK– Pre-race blood sample. Held up for clear racing room until the final 150 metres.
