GENERAL:

Due to the inclement weather stewards conducted mobile barrier testing approximately one hour prior to the first race and again 30 minutes prior to the first race and the track was deemed suitable for racing.

 

RACE 1 – FONARI’S INTERIOR LININGS PACE – 1720 metres

CHEETAH LODGE – Worked forward to obtain the lead passing the 1400 metres. Post race swab sample.

CANONLYBEONESIR– Caught racing three wide in the early stages until working forward to obtain the position outside the leader passing the 1400 metres.

POCKET MORE FOR LESSNZ – Commenced to weaken from the 600 metres to be beaten 44.7 metres and finished in last position. Driver J Brown explained he was disappointed in the performance and could offer no further explanation. Post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.

GRAYSON - Pre race blood sample.

 

Stewards questioned all drivers from the running of Race 1 with regards to the visibility and track conditions with no drivers expressing any severe concerns and as a result stewards deemed the track suitable to continue racing.

 

RACE 2 – ROYCE’S BIG WALK MAYORS CUP HEAT 1 – 2125 metres

SHARK DANCER– Over raced whilst leading the event. Failed to run on from the 400 metres to be beaten 37 metres and finished in 9th position. Stewards questioned driver S Piltz in relation to the racing manners of the gelding and the overall performance of the gelding. Mr Piltz stated that during the warm up the gelding had paced well however shortly after the start when showing significant speed and entering the first turn SHARK DANCER commenced to contact the wheel of the sulky and as a result raced extremely keenly. Mr Piltz was of the opinion that the racing manners of his gelding were detrimental over the concluding stages. In view of the geldings racing manners and overall performance, a warning was issued.

SOUTHBOUND TRAIN NZ- Post race swab sample.

SWEET ANNIE NZ– Engaged in a jostle with OUR AMAZING GRACE in the home straight on the final occasion when looking to shift out to obtain clear running to the outside of SHAME TO FAME. Unable to secure clear running in the home straight on the final occasion and was not fully tested.

MANLY MACH - Pre race blood sample.

SHAME TO FAME– Became unbalanced and galloped during the early stages of the score up. In view of the geldings recent record SHAME TO FAME was issued its last chance in the mobile barrier draw. Improved three wide from the 1400 metres until obtaining a position in the running line approaching the 700 metres.

OUR AMAZING GRACE- Pre race blood sample. Hung in during the score up and as a result was out of position at the start for which the mare will continue to be excluded from the mobile barrier draw.

 

Stewards questioned all drivers from the running of Race 2 with regards to the visibility and track conditions with no drivers expressing any significant concerns and as a result stewards deemed the track suitable to continue racing.

 

 

RACE 3 – NEPEAN SOLAR SOLUTIONS MAYORS CUP HEAT 2 – 2125 metres

ULTIMATE AD – Caught racing three wide in the early stages until being restrained to the tail of the field passing the 1650 metres. Improved three wide from the 1300 metres and as a result raced wide for the remainder of the event.

FLYING PEGASUS– Pre and post race veterinary examination was conducted due to the gelding having competed in excess of 200 race starts. No obvious abnormalities were detected on either examination.

SHADOW ECLIPSE- Over raced when positioned behind the leader. Post race swab sample.

BLUE SUEDE ROCKA– Pre race blood sample. An inquiry will be opened into the whip use of driver P Tanti in the home straight on the final occasion.  A date and time has not yet been set.

TIGERLICIOUS- Pre race blood sample. Improved three wide with a trail from the 850 metres. Unable to secure clear running in the home straight on the final occasion and was not fully tested.

TEAM STARZZZ - Pre and post race veterinary examination was conducted due to the gelding having competed in excess of 200 race starts. No obvious abnormalities were detected on either examination.

 

Stewards interviewed all drivers following the running of Race 3 with the majority of drivers indicating to stewards that visibility had become a significant issue as a result of the surface water laying on the track and as a result a delay was announced to allow the club time to perform remedial work on the track. After a short delay and the track curator being unable to rectify the issues, the track was deemed unsuitable for racing and the remainder of the race meeting was abandoned.
