KNIGHT WALKER– Driver Jarod Farrugia was questioned regarding the tactics adopted on the gelding in particular his decision to restrain KNIGHT WALKER passing the 1200 metres to a position last on the marker pegs. Mr Farrugia explained as the speed of the event had been slow it would likely result in a fast final 800 metres where KNIGHT WALKER would find it increasingly difficult to make ground on the track when wide. Mr Farrugia further explained it was not a viable option for him to allow KNIGHT WALKER to progress forward to obtain the position outside the leader as the gelding has previously performed best when saved for one run. Mr Farrugia further explained he was pleased with the performance of KNIGHT WALKER given it was able to make some ground in a fast final half of 56.9 seconds. Upon consideration of the tactics adopted, and the circumstances of the race in its entirety, Stewards were satisfied the tactics were not entirely unreasonable or unacceptable and took the matter no further. Mr Farrugia was further cautioned regarding the manner in which he applied the whip in the early stage of the home straight.
