Failed to run on over the concluding stages to be beaten 19.1 metres and finish in last position ($2.70 fav). Stewards questioned Driver J Callaghan in relation to the seemingly disappointing performance of the colt. Mr Callaghan explained the colt had done more work than anticipated to obtain the position outside the leader at the 950 metres and felt at this stage of the colts preparation was not suited by racing in the position outside the leader. Stewards noted his comments.
MR JONES NZ– Pre-race blood sample. Unable to secure clear running in the early stages of the home straight. Obtained a run to the inside of WILL I AM passing the 100 metres and contacted marker pegs whilst looking to obtain the run to the inside. Stewards delayed the all clear to ascertain whether or not MR JONES NZ had improved its position whilst racing inside the line of marker pegs. Upon review of the vision it was established MR JONES NZ had improved inside the line of 2 marker pegs passing the 100 metres to the inside of WILL I AM however had not improved its position whilst inside the marker pegs and Driver J Gallagher had met his obligations to restrain until obtaining a position back on the racing surface and improving when sufficient room became available. Stewards determined that MR JONES NZ had not gained an unfair advantage to the detriment of any other runner and the all clear was given on 7 – 4 – 10 – 1.
RACE 6 – APIAM AGNES BANKS PERFORMANCE ASSESSMENT PACE – 1609 metres
HUNT A RAINBOW– Raced roughly after the start. Hung out throughout the event and failed to run on over the concluding stages to be beaten 61.6 metres and finished in last position. Driver T Osmond could offer no explanation into the horses disappointing performance today and noted the horse was quite intractable throughout. In view of the tractability of HUNT A RAINBOW, the horse was stood down until it completes one requalifying trial. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any obvious abnormalities.
TISBURY ROCKS NZ– Pre-race blood sample. Worked forward to obtain the lead passing the 1250 metres. Unable to secure clear running in the latter stages of the home straight.
MARIA ALLEGONDA NZ– Shifted out under pressure in the home straight on the final occasion. Post-race swab sample.
OUR CHIQUITITA– Checked between the 900 metres and the 800 metres when racing to the outside of HUNT A RAINBOW when that runner hung out when racing to its inside resulting in OUR CHIQUITITA being momentarily being taken out into a three wide position before improving forward of that runner and obtaining its position back in the running line. Stewards delayed the all clear of this event to ascertain whether or not OUR CHIQUITITA had been afforded every opportunity to improve past MARIA ALLEGONDA NZ over the concluding stages of the event when it appeared that runner had shifted up the track to its inside. After reviewing the available replays Stewards were satisfied that although MARIA ALLEGONDANZ had shifted out under pressure in the home straight over the concluding stages OUR CHIQUITITA had not been impeded by MARIA ALLEGONDA NZ and therefore the all clear was given on the judges numbers of 7 – 9 – 6 – 4.

Mr Morris explained when making a move during the middle stages of the event he felt this in conjunction with the gelding being a 3 year old racing up in grade in his opinion had tolled over the concluding stages although did not he was happy with the performance of DOUBLE FEAR.
ERUPT STRIDE NZ– Pre-race blood sample.
