RACE 1 – CELEBRATING 75 YEARS OF NIGHT TROTTING PACE – 2300 metres

TREACHEROUS GALL NZ– Stewards questioned driver Will Rixon with regards to the performance of the mare which finished in eighth placing beaten 10 metres.  Mr Rixon advised Stewards that the mare began quickly and was able to find the lead quite comfortably before sustaining a challenge from REGAZZO DI TILLY approaching the 1800 metres.  Mr Rixon further advised that DANGEROUS driven by Abby Sanderson commenced to apply pressure from the 500 metres and that in addition to the early challenge by REGAZZO DI TILLY in his opinion contributed to the mare weakening over the concluding stages.  After considering the explanation provided by Mr Rixon, Stewards determined to note his comments.

OOGA CHAKA– Inconvenienced approaching the 1800 metres when the pace of the event slackened.

HESASHORETHING NZ– Stewards questioned driver Jack Brown with regards to the tactics he adopted in the early and middle stages of the event, in addition to the overall performance of the horse which tired over the concluding stages to finish in tenth placing beaten 56 metres.  Mr Brown advised Stewards that trainer Jason Grimson had advised him to just go with the horse in the early stages as he can get quite fierce.  Mr Brown advised Stewards that he was able to work over to the position outside the lead quite easily in the early stages however at that point the horse locked his jaw onto the bit and commenced to pull really hard.  Mr Brown advised Stewards that this can be the normal racing characteristics of the horse when he is unable to find the front of the event and he would recommend some gear changes be made on the horse before returning to the races. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the horse to be lame in the off side fore leg.  After considering the veterinary findings and the explanation provided by Mr Brown, HESASHORETHING NZ was stood down until the production of a veterinary certificate of clearance and the completion of one requalifying trial.

RENEWAL– Worked forward to the lead approaching the 1200 metres.  Post-race swab sample.

SURPRISE LANDING– Pre-race blood sample.

LIBBY LOU– Shifted in and locked wheels with GOLLY GEE FELLAS passing the 75 metres.  Lost protest.  Driver Blake Fitzpatrick pleaded guilty to a charge under rule 162(1)(www), in that he had allowed his filly to shift down the track passing the 75 metres and impede the running of GOLLY GEE FELLAS.  After considering the recent record of Mr Fitzpatrick, he was fined $300.
