COOL NIGHT– Stewards questioned driver Jack Callaghan with regards to the tactics he adopted in the early stages of the event, whereby it appeared his runner had shown sufficient gate speed to cross GIMMEFIVEMINUTESMORE NZ in the run to the first turn and establish the lead of the event, however he elected to restrain to allow LUVARESCHS to be driven forward and occupy that position.  Mr Callaghan advised Stewards that COOL NIGHT began strongly and was in a position to be able to cross GIMMEFIVEMINUTESMORE NZ in the run to the first turn, however he noticed that LUVARESCHS had also begun well and was being driven forward and in his opinion that runner is known for surrendering the lead in its races so he elected rather than to get in a speed dual with that runner to restrain, allow it to find the lead and then look to work forward to obtain the front.  Mr Callaghan further advised that once LUVARESCHS got to the lead of the event it commenced to over race and his runner COOL NIGHT did not quicken sufficiently to establish a genuine challenge for the lead of the event which left him racing without cover for the remainder of the event.  After considering the explanation provided by Mr Callaghan Stewards determined note his comments, however Mr Callaghan was reminded of his obligations to ensure he drives his runners in a manner which ensures they are given the best opportunity to finish in the best possible position.
