MONARCH STRIDE– Pre-race blood sample. Stewards questioned Driver J Callaghan in relation to the tractability of the gelding and his vigour over the concluding stages. Mr Callaghan explained that leaving the 700 metres MONARCH STRIDE began to trot roughly and as a result of the tractability of MONARCH STRIDE he was unable to fully extend the gelding as he was concerned the gelding may have made an error. Based on the tractability and comments of Driver J Callaghan, Stewards ordered MONARCH STRIDE be stood down until it completes one requalifying trial.

JAKARTA NZ– Out of position at the start for which the gelding will continue to be placed outside of the mobile barrier draw.

RACE 2 – TAB WE’RE ON TROTTERS MOBILE – 2300 metres

FLASH KYVALLEY– Failed to run on over the concluding stages to be beaten 91.9 metres and finished in last position. Driver B Fitzpatrick explained following the event he felt the gelding was making some respiratory noises during the event. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any obvious abnormalities. In view of the performance of FLASH KYVALLEY the gelding was stood down until it completes one requalifying trial.

SUPER SERVICE– Pre-race blood sample. Worked forward to obtain the lead passing the 2000 metres. Shifted out under pressure in the home straight. Driver W Rixon pleaded guilty to a charge under Rule 168(1)(a), careless driving in that in the home straight on the final occasion he has allowed SUPER SERVICE to shift round in the home straight. W Rixon was fined $200 after considering his plea and recent offence record. Post-race swab sample.

PATRIOT STRIDE NZ– Stewards questioned Driver C Hart in relation to the performance of the gelding when failing to run on over the concluding stages to be beaten 34.3 metres and finished in 9th position. SPEEDY LOVER– Prior to the declaration of all clear Driver C Geary advised Stewards he wished to view the run to the finish in relation to SUPER SERVICE shifting up the track to his inside. After reviewing the available vision Driver C Geary lodged an objection against the first placed SUPER SERVICE alleging interference over the final 100 metres. After considering the evidence of Driver C Geary as well as W Rixon (SUPER SERVICE) Stewards found that although SUPER SERVICE had shifted up the track to his inside this had not impeded or interfered with SPEEDY LOVER and therefore Stewards determined no interference had occurred and therefore the objection was dismissed and all clear given on the judges numbers of 6 – 9 – 10 – 1.

LEAF STRIDE NZ– Caught racing three wide in the early stages until being restrained to the tail of the field passing the 1800 metres.

WILL I AM– Stewards questioned Driver J McCarthy in relation to the tactics adopted in the early stages and the overall performance of the gelding when failing to run on over the concluding stages to be beaten 22.5 metres and finished in last position. Driver J McCarthy explained connections had advised they felt the gelding races best when able to lead and as a result of beginning well pressed forward to try and obtain the lead however approaching the 1400 metres he was still receiving significant pressure from SHARK DANCER and considering the speed of the event he elected to take cover from that point. Mr McCarthy explained once obtaining cover the gelding travelled well up until the entry to the home straight where the gelding failed to run on. Stewards noted his comments.

ULTIMATE AD– A pre and post-race veterinary examination was conducted due to the gelding having competed in excess of 200 race starts. No obvious abnormalities were detected on either examination.

SHARK DANCER– Stewards questioned Driver S Piltz in relation to the tactics adopted in the early stages of today’s event and the overall performance of the gelding when failing to run on over the concluding stages being beaten 18.3 metres and finished in 6th position. Mr Piltz explained after beginning well he looked to press forward and obtain the lead as he felt the gelding races best when able to lead and after gaining an advantage over WILL I AM approaching the 1400 metres he pressed on to the lead and noted the 26.3 fast first quarter he was then able to gain respite during the middle stages of the event when recording the second quarter in 30.5 seconds and the third quarter in 29.6 seconds. Mr Piltz explained considering the respite afforded to the gelding during the middle stages he was still confident of a forward showing. Mr Piltz explained in the home straight on the final occasion the gelding found the line fairly and he was not overly disappointed in the performance. Stewards noted his comments.

Mr Hancock explained he was disadvantaged when taken back at the start of the race when the field settled in single file formation and considering the slower than expected early tempo his gelding was unable to make a run into the event over the concluding stages when the final quarter was recorded in 27.7 seconds. Mr Williams explained he had been happy with the gelding’s most recent two runs at Penrith when unable to secure clear running in the home straight on the final occasion in either event and explained he did feel CAULONIA COURAGE was best suited to racing around the larger 1400 metre track. Mr Williams explained the gelding received a favourable run behind the leader and felt this had been beneficial to his runner. Post-race swab sample.

RED REACTOR NZ– Pre-race blood sample.

GOLDEN BAY NZ– Raced roughly leaving the 400 metres and failed to run on over the concluding stages to be beaten 3.5 metres and finished in 4th position.
