RACE 1 – BESTINBEDS.COM.AU PACE – 2300 metres
WHISKEY CAVALIER NZ– Broke stride during the score up. After considering the recent record of the gelding, it was given its last chance in the mobile barrier draw. A post-race veterinary examination of the gelding revealed it to be suffering from atrial fibrillation, therefore in accordance with Rule 101C(2)(a) the gelding was stood down for a period of 14 days, the completion of an ECG and one requalifying trial.
KINGMAKER NZ– Pre-race blood sample. Driver Luke McCarthy pleaded guilty to a charge under Rule 163(1)(a)(iii) for causing interference, in that approaching the 200 metres he permitted his gelding to shift wider on the track when not sufficiently clear of DADNDAVE NZ causing the offside sulky wheel KINGMAKER NZ to race inside the line of DADNDAVE NZ and ultimately make contact with the nearside hind leg of that runner causing it to be checked and break stride. After considering the recent record of Mr McCarthy, his licence to drive in races was suspended for a period of 7 days to commence midnight 14 December 2024.
DADNDAVE NZ– Checked and broke approaching the 200 metres.
MAJOR MAJOR– Inconvenienced rounding the final turn when WHISKEY CAVALIER NZ commenced to give ground.
KOSIMO– Checked behind the tiring WHISKEY CAVALIER NZ rounding the final turn. Stewards questioned driver Will Rixon with regard to the performance of the gelding which tired over the concluding stages to finish in 9th placing beaten 47 metres. Mr Rixon advised Stewards that as a result of WHISKEY CAVALIER NZ commencing to give ground round the final bend, he was forced to race three wide earlier than he would have liked and he felt this combined with the fast tempo and the false start all contributed to the geldings performance. A post-race veterinary examination of the gelding, failed to reveal any obvious abnormalities.
SAINT VERAN– Post-race swab sample.
DHAULAGIRI NZ– Over raced when racing outside the leader. Commenced to give ground over the concluding stages inconveniencing KOSIMO and checking MAJOR MAJOR before finishing in 10th placing, beaten 84 metres. A post-race veterinary examination of DHAULAGIRI NZ revealed the gelding to be suffering from atrial fibrillation, therefore in accordance with Rule 101C(2)(a) the gelding was stood down for a period of 14 days, the completion of an ECG and one requalifying trial.
SERG BLANCO NZ– Pre-race blood sample. Stewards questioned Driver Nathan Jack with regards to him raising his left hand during the score up when SERG BLANCO NZ had broken stride which resulted in a false start being declared. Mr Jack advised Stewards it was the first time he had driven the gelding and had been advised by Trainer Steven Duffy that the gelding can be fractious in the pre-race circle and requested the horse stand with the pony and be led out of the pre-race circle. Mr Jack advised Stewards in his opinion the Clerk took too long to release the gelding and as a result he had to ask the gelding to quicken when leaving the circle which caused SERG BLANCO NZ to break stride. Driver Nathan Jack pleaded guilty to a charge under Rule 162(1)(d) for delaying the start, in that he raised his hand during the score up when SERG BLANCO NZ was in a break and in the opinion of the Stewards was not entitled to do so. After considering the record of Mr Jack, in addition to the particular circumstances of this incident he was fined $200 and SERG BLANCO NZ was placed out of the mobile barrier draw. Shifted out under pressure in the home straight. After considering the recent record of the gelding, a warning was issued.

Stewards questioned Driver Jack Callaghan with regards to the performance of the horse which tired over the concluding stages to finish in 12th placing beaten 47 metres. Mr Callaghan advised Stewards that upon entering the back straight JILLIBY NITRO commenced to improve three wide and he elected to also shift his runner wider onto the back of JILLIBY NITRO thinking JILLIBY NITRO would be unable to improve to the position outside the leader and would therefore provide cover for his runner rounding the final turn. However, PETES SAID SO NZ which was racing outside the leader at that stage of the event elected to ultimately hand up to JILLIBY NITRO which left DISTRICT ATTORNEY exposed in a three wide position for the remainder of the event and in the opinion of Mr Callaghan this contributed to the performance of the horse. A post race veterinary examination of DISTRICT ATTORNEY failed to reveal any obvious abnormalities. After considering the explanation provided by Mr Callaghan, Stewards determined to note his comments.

Mr Alford advised Stewards the gelding again travelled well throughout the event, however failed to let down over the concluding stages. Mr Alford advised that Trainer Isobel Walsh had bloods taken from the gelding post the disappointing Bathurst performance, however they failed to disclose any abnormalities with the horse and therefore he could only come to the conclusion the additional racing has not aided the gelding and he would hopefully improve now with a week between its next run. A post-race veterinary examination of the gelding failed to reveal any obvious abnormalities. After considering the explanation provided by Mr Alford, Stewards determined to note his comments.
