Driver C Voak was advised to ensure all care is taken when attempting to shift outwards in future events.
General: Driver B Johnson pleaded guilty to a charge under rule 163(1)(b)(i) for making another runner cover more ground than necessary in that when racing towards the back straight on the final occasion he has shifted KOOLBARDI NAVAJO (S McDonald) into a four wide position prior to the designated ease out pole. Mr Johnson’s licence was suspended for a period of 7 days to commence midnight 1st April 2024 and conclude midnight 8th April 2024. In determining penalty Stewards considered Mr Johnson’s guilty plea and good record under this rule.
Driver K Symington (MALAKIE) was questioned with relation to the tactics adopted in the event, in particular the reason for making a sustained move forward from racing towards the front straight to receive the bell until finding the lead when racing out of the front straight on the final occasion, before tiring over the concluding stages to be beaten approximately 55m. Mr Symington put forward he considered there had been good tempo after the start acknowledging the fast lead time but then then the tempo had eased referencing the slow first quarter, therefore elected to make the mid-race move fearing it may have been too hard to make ground from back in the field over the latter stages. Mr Symington further stated the mare does have a successful history of making sustained runs and he initially intended to race in the lead of the one wide line however when he found his drive in advance of MAKE YOUR MARK (C Peterson) he thought the leading position may be achievable. Mr Symington concurred with Stewards that the continued effort to find the lead of the event was an error in tactics and was advised to give greater consideration to the requests of connections in future events. Mr Symington was further advised to avoid driving in a manner that may leave his licence vulnerable to the serious consequences under rule 149(2).
RACE 8 – AUSTRALIAN PREMIUM FEEDS / MILNE LIGHTNING LAP SERIES PACE (1177MS)
FLYNSCOTSMAN (M Miller) – Under-went a pre and post-race veterinary examination in accordance with R.W.W.A.’s aged horse policy.

CYNTHIA MAE (K Symington) – Broke gait shortly after the start was effected. Trainer R Nafranec was advised the mare will be placed outside the draw in future Standing Start events.
