Trainers with multiple runners in any one race were questioned in relation to their intended tactics.
RACE 1 – PAUL COUNSEL TROT (2116SS)
NICKYS SON (M Munro) – Raced roughly shortly after the start. Began to give ground from the vicinity of the 500 metres.
ABUNDANCE NZ (S McDonald) – Utilised the sprint lane in the run to the finish.
LINE THE STARZZZ (E Suvaljko) – Cast a hind plate during the preliminary. Trainer T Ferguson sought permission for the mare to start without that plate which was granted. Returned having lost the remaining hind plate.
LUVAFLAIR (D Harper) – Trailed the field throughout.
General: Driver M Munro (NICKYS SON) and C Voak (CHUMANI) were interviewed into the reasons CHUMANI appeared to lose ground shortly after the start. After considering the evidence tendered and reviewing the Stewards patrol vision, it was established NICKYS SON had shifted outwards abruptly into the near side leg region of CHUMANI, which was steadied and lost ground. Trainer/Driver M Munro was advised NICKYS SON will be placed on his last chance to race truly with Mr Munro committing to ensure all precautions are taken to prevent similar occurrences in upcoming events.
RACE 2 – DONALD GARDNER 2YO PACE (2185MS)
CIGANDA (T Lynn) – Began to race keenly with a reduction in race tempo through the middle stages. Contacted the rear section of the sulky of CAPTAIN SAID SO (A De Campo) and broke gait for a short distance as a consequence when racing in the front straight to receive the bell. Trainer B Lynn was advised the filly will be placed on her last chance to race truly in upcoming events.
CRUNCH THE NUMBERS (R Warwick) – Hung outwards during the score up.
WORLD COMBINATION (S Suvaljko) – Checked behind a galloping runner racing in the front straight to receive the bell.
SAVE ME (C Lewis) – Checked behind a galloping runner racing in the front straight to receive the bell and raced roughly as a consequence.
RUN BOB RUN (T Wheeler) – Checked behind a galloping runner racing in the front straight to receive the bell.
RACE 3 – RUTH HEDRICK LIGHTNING LAP 4YO+ PACE (1177MS)
SPINNER OF YARNS (S Suvaljko) – Driver S Suvaljko was cautioned in relation to the manner in which he has applied the whip in the early stages of the home straight.
STRAYLYA (T Wheeler) – Unable to obtain clear running for the majority of the straight.
RADIANT BAY (N Turvey) – Utilised the sprint lane to win the event.
AGENT BOOTH (E Suvaljko) – Hung inwards under pressure over the concluding stages.
SASSY DANCER ( A Markham) – Raced roughly when placed under pressure racing out of the back straight and towards the front straight on the final occasion. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
HAVING FUN (C Lewis) – Inconvenienced during the score up and was out of position at the candy pole marker as a consequence.
WHITBYS WORLD (C Voak) – Hung inwards during the score up.
RACE 4 – MARLENE KEIL 3YO PACE (1684MS)
ALTAR (D Harper) – Fractious during the early stages of the score up.
WORLD SECRET (C Lewis) – Cast a fore plate on course. Trainer K Warwick requested permission to race the filly bare in front which was granted.
LUNETTA (C Voak) – Utilised the sprint lane in the run to the finish.
JIMMY ROCKS (M Miller) – Broke gait shortly after the start and again racing out of the front straight on the first occasion. Driver M Miller put forward the gelding raced intractably with the removal of the one legged spreader and advised the trainer on its reapplication for future events. Trainer K Prentice was advised the gelding will be placed outside the draw in future Mobile Barrier events and stood down from racing for a period of 6 days and until such time as the successful completion of 1 satisfactory re-qualifying trial.
SHES A MARE (E Suvaljko) – The deafeners failed to release during the event.
CORK CAN RUN (A De Campo) – Shifted outwards under pressure over the concluding stages.
RACE 5 – CARLTON OXLEY LIGHTNING LAP PACE (1177MS)
General: Trainer B Lynn was interviewed in relation to the circumstances surrounding the late scratching of KINSAABI. On completion, Mr Lynn was fined $100 under the provisions of rule 88(1)(a) in that he has failed to withdraw the horse by the acceptance time required. In determining penalty, Stewards considered the circumstances involved.
GEARSINAWHIRL (M Miller) – Held up for a short distance on straightening until shifting inwards and utilising the sprint lane.
RACE 6 – KAY MCDONALD PACE 2185MS)
UNLUCKY (L Harper) – Shifted outwards in the run to the finish. A warning was placed on the mare’s racing manners. Mr Harper was reminded of his obligation to make all efforts in maintaining a straight course in the run to the finish.
CHILLI PUNTER (A De Campo) – Hung outwards after the start was effected. Held up for a short distance on straightening until shifting inwards and utilising the sprint lane.
BETTOR HAVE FAITH NZ (M Miller) – Inconvenienced by UNLUCKY (L Harper) which was shifting outwards in the run to the finish.
RACE 7 – DENNIS WYCH LIGHTNING LAP PACE (1177MS)
ARTISTC SCRIBE (T Wheeler) – Utilised the sprint lane in the run to the finish.
JINGLING JEWELS (M Miller) – Tired over the concluding stages. Driver M Miller was questioned in relation to his driving through the early and middle stages, in particular with regard to the strong tempo setting a fast first half time of 56.3 seconds. Mr Miller put forward his pre-race intention was to attempt to lead as the gelding has performed well when leading previously. Mr Miller stated after getting approximately three quarters in advance of UNDER THE STARZZZ (C Voak) after the start, he then realized the lead was not achievable and elected to remain racing strongly for a short distance in attempting to create a position behind the leader to restrain into. Mr Miller added he soon realised this manoeuvre may be too difficult and did not overly exert the gelding from racing into the back straight until becoming under pressure at approximately 500m. Stewards noted the comments.
IM DRINKINDOUBLES (K Harper) – Raced roughly shortly after the start was effected when restraining for a position.
RACE 8 – TONY SUTTON PACE 2185MS)
IM TOILER (G Johnson) – Began to give ground from the vicinity of the 400m. A warning was placed on the mares racing performance.
EBEE AVIATOR (A Suvaljko) – Shifted outwards over the majority of the home straight attempting to secure clear running.
RACE 9 – RAY OKELY LIGHTNING LAP PACE 1177MS)
ALTA QUEEN (C Lewis) – Hung outwards under pressure in the home straight.
ETON ROCK (C Peterson) – Fractious during the score up. Held up for clear running in the early stages of the home straight.
BENJI NZ (J Suvaljko) – Fractious during the score up.
