Trainers with multiple runners in any one race were questioned in relation to their intended tactics.
RWWA Stewards and Investigators today inspected a number of Trainers’ stables with runners engaged at today’s race meeting as a part of RWWA Compliance Assurance Activities. Further, a number of drivers were randomly selected to provide urine sample which will undergo analysis for the detection of banned substances.
RACE 1 – WOODLANDS STUD 2YO FILLIES PACE (1684MS)
OFFICIAL ROCK (D Harper) – Driver D Harper was reprimanded under HR163(1)(c)(ii) for contacting several marker posts approaching the front straight on the final occasion.
ITS MAA TIME (A De Campo) – Contacted the barrier arm and hung outwards in the score up and failed to be in position as the start was affected. Will remain excluded from the mobile barrier draw.
RACE 2 – TYREPOWER PINJARRA TROT (2631SS)
IM GAVOCHE (D Egerton-Green) – Contacted a marker post leaving the back straight on the final occasion.
MAXWILL SMART (R Warwick) – Lost the lugging pole when racing in the front straight to receive the bell.
CYCLONE KADABRAMELIA NZ (E Suvaljko) – Gave ground from the 400m. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
RACE 3 – SIGNUP 4YO+ PACE (2185MS)
No racing incidents to report.
RACE 4 – ACCESS CLEANING PACE (1684MS)
Stewards held up all clear and advised patrons to hold all tickets after Driver D Egerton-Green (OUR LADY JEN) wished to view the official patrol film over the concluding stages. After viewing the patrol film, and with the margin between third and fourth being 3 metres, Mr Egerton-Green decided to take no further action and Stewards gave all clear of the judge’s numbers.
General: Driver E Suvaljko (TORREVEAN PINKY) was cautioned and advised to take greater effort in future to keep her drives on a straight course in the run to the finish after shifting outwards dictating SWEET IVY NZ (J Young) towards the running line of OUR LADY JEN (D Egerton-Green). In considering the matter, Stewards were of the opinion that when SWEET IVY NZ was being shifted there was an overreaction from that mare, contributing to the interference to OUR LADY JEN.
RACE 5 – ALCOA PACE (2185MS)
KABOCHON (J Young) – Stewards questioned the driving tactics of Driver J Young after losing the leading position to BLAZING REACTOR NZ (D Roberts) when racing in the back straight on the final occasion and remaining behind that runner until finding the sprint lane. Driver J Young put forward that she could not discredit the racing performance of BLAZING REACTOR NZ setting a 27.1 to cross the gelding in the back straight and believed that she would have been unable to hold the gelding out after becoming aware of the challenge in the back straight. After losing the leading position the driver advised that she had doubts whether she would have beaten BLAZING REACTOR NZ had she elected to make an outwards run. Stewards accepted Miss Young’s comments and no further action was taken.
RACE 6 – BENDIGO BANK PACE (2185MS)
No racing incidents to report.
RACE 7 – ANDREW HASTIE MP PACE (2631SS)
BELLISSIMO ACQUISTO NZ (T Wheeler) – Driver T Wheeler was fined $200 under HR168(1)(a) for careless driving when shifting outwards shortly after the start contacting the front legs of TRIGWELL ROAD (C Voak). In considering penalty, Stewards found that the interference was minor and that TRIGWELL ROAD had not lost its position in the field. Mr Wheeler reported a deflated near side tyre in the back straight on the final occasion.
JOEY JAMES (T Lynn) – Galloped out as the start was effected. A warning was issued.
THE WILDCARD (A De Campo) – Checked and raced roughly after the start.
GOOD TIMES AHEAD NZ (K Harper) – Galloped out as the start was effected. A warning was issued.
RACE 8 – BWC CIVIL & EARTHMOVING PACE (1684MS)
Stewards held up all clear and advised patrons to hold all tickets to review SUB MARINER (T Wheeler) breaking gait over the final stages. Stewards found that when the gelding broke gait the driver took immediate action to restrain the gelding as per his obligations under HR154(1). Further, when considering HR155 the Stewards found that the gelding did not gain ground or maintain its ground to the detriment of other runners when breaking gait. Stewards subsequently gave all clear on numbers 12 – 1 – 9 – 6.
RIPPER VIEW (J Young) –Driver J Young was reprimanded under HR168(1)(a) in that when shifting ground when racing out of the front straight on the final occasion was not clear of CARIBBEAN TIMES (D Miller) inconveniencing other runners.
SUB MARINER (T Wheeler) – Broke gait when racing in the front straight on the final occasion. Will be stood down from racing for a period of 6 days and the completion of 1 satisfactory re-qualifying trial.
RACE 9 – BEAR ALL CONTRACTING 3YO PACE (2185MS)
CARA DIANA (C Voak) – Inconvenienced over the concluding stages and contacted two marker posts.
IM GRAFTER (G Johnson) – Driver G Johnson was reprimanded under HR156(2)(a) for using his whip in more than a flicking motion. In considering penalty, Stewards took into account Mr Johnson’s good record under this rule. Mr Johnson was also shown a section of the vision in the early stages of the event and was advised to show caution and afford sufficient racing room to runners racing to his inside.
SHES VICTORIOUS NZ (G Hall Jnr) – Gave ground over the final 500m. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the filly to be slow to recover. Trainer M Brennan advised that he would arrange for an endoscopic examination on return to the stable and advise Stewards of any findings. The filly was stood down from racing for a period of 6 days and the completion of 1 satisfactory re-qualifying trial.
STARANNA (D Miller) – Gave ground from the 1000m. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the filly to have choked down. The filly was stood down from racing for a period of 6 days and the completion of 1 satisfactory re-qualifying trial.
