RACE 1 – TOOHEYS WARATAH HEAT – 1609 metres

GOTTA RUSH – Held up in the home straight and not fully tested.

CLOUDIN UP– Pre race blood sample. Driver Grace Panella reported to Stewards that she lost her offside footpeg passing the 400 metres.

MAJOR DOODLE– Caught racing wide in the early stages of the event before being restrained to the tail of the field passing the 1200 metres.

HOIHO NZ– Over raced and raced roughly for a short distance approaching the 500 metres.

SILVER LADY NZ– Pre race blood sample.

GOTTA KICK– Post race swab sample.

MISS SERENDIPITY– Hung in and raced roughly passing the 500 metres.

RACE 2 – WOLF BLASS PACE – 1609 metres

HEAVENLY BELLE – Post race swab sample. Driver Guy Chapple pleaded guilty to a charge under rule 156(2)(a) for unapproved whip use, that he applied the whip to the mare over the concluding the stages of the home straight in a manner which was considered not to be a wrist only flicking motion. After considering the recent record of Mr Chapple he was fined $200.

CAPTAIN DORIAN- Pre race blood sample.

PRODIGAL GUINNESS NZ– Worked forward to the lead passing the 1500 metres. Hung in and contacted marker pegs passing the 250 metres.

HURRICANE STRIDE NZ- Pre race blood sample.

RACE 3 – B&B TOTAL SUPPLY PACE – 1609 metres

BETTERTHANFEDERER – Held up in the early stages of the home straight before gaining clear running passing the 100 metres. Driver Tom Ison was advised to exercise greater care when shifting ground over the concluding stages. Post race swab sample.

GOODTIME HERO– Held up in the home straight and not fully tested.

MAMMALS RIDDLE– Pre race blood sample. Worked forward to the lead passing the 1350 metres. Held up in the home straight and not fully tested.

WHAT NOW SHANNON– Worked forward to the lead passing the 1100 metres.

HIDDEN DELIGHT NZ– Driver Jack Callaghan was reminded of his obligations to ensure he keeps his feet in the sulky rest over the concluding stages of the event.

BENEATH THE SHADOW- Pre race blood sample. Caught racing wide in the early stages of the event before working forward to the position outside of the leader passing the 1100 metres.

IM BILLS LAST NZ– Improved three wide from the 1000 metres and continued to race wide for the remainder of the event. Broke stride free of interference passing the 250 metres. After considering the recent record of the gelding, a warning was issued.

RACE 4 – SOMERSETS MEATS PACE – 1609 metres

TALLARINGA HARMS– Late scratching at 1:13pm by Order of Stewards after a stable inspection at the property of trainer Jason Harmey disclosed the gelding to have been treated with Tough Roc. An inquiry into the treatment of the gelding after 8am on race day was adjourned to a date to be fixed.

COLBY NZ– Pre race blood sample. Broke after the start. After considering the recent record of the gelding, it was placed outside the mobile barrier draw.

WAY OUT WEST– Pre race blood sample. Stewards questioned driver Blake Hughes with regards to the performance of the gelding which finished in 8th placing beaten 16 metres. Mr Hughes advised stewards he was reasonably satisfied with the performance of the gelding who was pressured throughout the majority of the event by ALLSET NZ which was over racing to his outside. A post race veterinary examination of the gelding failed to reveal any obvious abnormalities. After considering the explanation provided by Mr Hughes stewards determined to note his comments.

ROCKTAGONAL– Held up in the early stages of the home straight before gaining clear running over the final 50 metres.

ALLSET NZ– Over raced when racing outside the leader throughout the event.

DHAULAGIRI NZ- Post race swab sample.

GROSESTAR– Checked after the start. Held up in the home straight and not fully tested.

RACE 5 – COLES BELMONT PACE – 1609 metres

MAN FROM BRAVOS – Pre race blood sample.

KATCHAR SHOOBEE– Driver Brian Portelli pleaded guilty to a charge under rule 156(2)(a) for unapproved whip use, in that he applied the whip to the gelding in the home straight in a manner which was considered not to be a wrist only flicking motion. After considering the recent record of Mr Portelli he was fined $400.

DEANNE PANYA NZ- Pre race blood sample.

FEAR CRUISIN NZ - Post race swab sample.

ZIGGY ROCKS– Held up in the home straight and not fully tested.

RACE 6 – THE DROVERS RUN PACE – 1609 metres

CHEETAH LODGE - Pre race blood sample.

DRAGON TATTOO NZ– Caught racing three wide in the early stages before being restrained to the tail of the field passing the 1150 metres.

IM VEXATIOUS- Pre race blood sample. Caught racing four wide in the early stages of the event before working forward to the lead passing the 1200 metres. Post race swab sample.

MACS TOMADO NZ – Broke after the start. After considering the recent record of the gelding it was placed outside the mobile barrier draw.

HEADLINE HUNTER– Over raced during the middle stages of the event.

RACE 7 – RARITY WHOLESALE PACE – 1609 metres

FLYING SHARD - Pre race blood sample. Slow to begin.

FOXY DADA– Stewards questioned driver Brian Portelli with regards to the tactics he adopted on the gelding when maintaining a challenge for the lead from the 1300 metres until a point approaching the 900 metres. Mr Portelli explained to stewards that it was always his intention to drive FOXY DADA in a forward manner this evening and when he was caught racing outside the leader he elected to commence a challenge for the lead. Mr Portelli further explained that when commencing to challenge he believed the driving manners of Grace Panella, who was driving the leader, CHATHERUP indicated to him that the lead was available however he felt his horse was unable to quicken sufficiently to occupy the position and he therefore ceased his challenge passing the 900 metres. After considering the explanation provided by Mr Portelli, Stewards determined to note his comments.

PATSY OTARA– Held up in the home straight and not fully tested.

MAJIC MOMENT NZ- Pre race blood sample. Post race swab sample.

RACE 8 – THOMPSON’S PIES PACE – 2030 metres

JACKEROO SHANNON – Driver Sarah Rushbrook was cautioned under rule 156(3) for the frequency of the manner in which she applied the whip over the final 400 metres.

FLARE UP- Pre race blood sample. Over raced when racing behind the leader. Post race swab sample.

THE THUG NZ- Pre race blood sample.

RACE 9 – WESTPAC RESCUE HELICOPTER SERVICE PACE – 2030 metres

COLBY ART– Hung out and broke soon after entry to the first turn checking RINTIN, YELLOW TAXI, BEAU HART and inconveniencing LORD BALZUP causing RINTIN and YELLOW TAXI to break stride. After considering the recent record of the gelding, a warning was issued.

RUM DELIGHT NZ– Checked passing the 300 metres when the tiring TULLYS CARMER NZ locked wheels with CHRISTIAN BROTHER NZ causing that runner to be checked and break stride.

CHRISTIAN BROTHER NZ– Examined prior to the running of this event as the gelding is 14 years of age and has competed in excess of 200 race starts. The examination failed to reveal any obvious abnormalities. Pre race blood sample. Placed in restricted room to the inside of PRESTIGIACOMO approaching the 300 metres which was hanging down the track and as a result locked wheels with the tiring TULLYS CARMER NZ causing CHRISTIAN BROTHER NZ to be checked and break stride. Post race veterinary examination of the gelding revealed it to be lame in the near side fore leg. Acting on veterinary recommendations it was stood down for a period of 7 days and until the production of a veterinary certificate of clearance.

TULLYS CARMER NZ- Pre race blood sample. Worked forward to the lead passing the 1800 metres. Commenced to tire from the 450 metres until approaching the 300 metres where it locked wheels with CHRISTIAN BROTHER NZ causing that runner to be checked and break stride, further checking RUM DELIGHT NZ and inconveniencing BEAU HART.

PRESTIGIACOMO- Caught racing three wide in the early stages of the event before working forward to the position outside the leader passing the 1800 metres. Hung in rounding the final turn placing CHRISTIAN BROTHER NZ in restricted room and as a result CHRISTIAN BROTHER NZ locked wheels with the tiring TULLYS CARMER NZ.

BEATBOXER- Caught racing three wide in the early stages before being restrained to a position in the running line passing the 1800 metres. Improved three wide from the 1600 metres until obtaining the position outside the leader passing the 1500 metres.

BEAU HART– Checked when COLBY ART broke stride soon after entry to the first turn. Inconvenienced behind the tiring TULLYS CARMER NZ rounding the final turn.

LORD BAZALUP– Inconvenienced when COLBY ART NZ broke stride upon entry to the first turn. Post race swab sample.

RINTIN– Severely checked and broke soon after entry to the first turn when COLBY ART NZ broke stride.

YELLOW TAXI NZ- Severely checked and broke when COLBY ART NZ broke stride soon after entry to the first turn.

 

SUPPLEMENTARY REPORT:

TUESDAY 26TH JULY 2022 – CESSNOCK SHOWGROUNDS

Blake Hughes pleaded guilty to a charge under Rule 159A(7) for failing to wear a body protector during track work at Cessnock Showgrounds. After considering the recent record of Mr Hughes he was fined $250.
