RACE 1 – TAB VENUE MODE PACE – 2030 metres

JACQUELINE ROSE NZ– Out of position as the start was affected.  A warning was issued.

ULTIMATE RHAPSODY– Pre-race sample was taken. 

ADRENALINE RUSH– Held up for clear running in the early stages of the run to the finish.

STILL ROLLIN NZ– Post-race sample was taken.

 

RACE 2 – SOMERSET MEATS PACE – 1609 metres

BETTOR WATCH ARDEN NZ– Driver L Whittaker was fined the sum of $200 under rule 156(2)(a) in that when applying the whip over the concluding stages employed an action which engaged the shoulder.  Post-race sample was taken.

HALSEY NICOLE– Driver J Taaffe was fined the sum of $200 under rule 156(2)(a) in that when applying the whip over the concluding stages employed an action which engaged the shoulder.

MAJOR MICKEY– Out of position as the start was affected.  A warning was issued.

 

RACE 3 – GLOBAL BRAND PACE – 2030 metres

FOREVER A DANCER NZ– Held up for clear running over the concluding stages and not fully tested.

ABDICATE NZ– Held up for clear running in the early stages of the run to the finish.

KILLARA SAMUARI– Post-race sample was taken.

SCOTLYNN BEACH NZ– Weakened over the concluding stages to be beaten some distance.  It was reported post-race that it had suffered a bleeding attack.  As it was its first recorded offence connections were advised it will be stood down for a period of three months in addition to one requalifying trial and a veterinary certificate of fitness.

FIRE AND SWORD– Pre-race sample was taken. 

 

RACE 4 – SLICK CHICKS PACE – 1609 metres

RYANS GANGSTER– Held up for clear running over the concluding stages and not fully tested.

ROYAL GAMBLE NZ– Stewards opened an inquiry into the reasons for ROYAL GAMBLE NZ being shifted wider racing down the home straight on the final occasion which allowed clear running for ONE FOR THE RODI to progress through.  A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.  The inquiry was adjourned to a time and date to be fixed.

FAR OUT BRO– Post-race sample was taken.

ONE FOR THE RODI– Held up in the early stages of the run to the finish.

SURFERS DELIGHT NZ– Pre-race sample was taken.

 

RACE 5 – RARITY WHOLESALE PACE – 1609 metres

ANTETOKOUNMPO– When questioned regarding the tactics adopted in the early stages of the event driver J Callaghan explained that no direct instructions were given however felt that in the early stages of the event would have been able to hold a prominent position.  He added that after the start was affected begun on terms with SHEZA REBEL drawn to his outside and was able to maintain his position along the marker pegs without too much urgency.  He further added that entering the first turn LOCHINVAR CAMARO which had an advantage over his runner and SHEZA REBEL was unable to cross down with SHEZA REBEL mustering through the middle.  From that point was able to maintain the lead position racing under its own steam and when entering the home straight on the first occasion LOCHINVAR CAMARO which had progressed to the position outside of the leader continued to apply pressure to which the lead was surrendered from that point.  Stewards noted his comments.

SHEZA REBEL– Had a tendency to hang in during the early stages of the score up.  When questioned regarding the tactics adopted in the early stages of the event driver B Hughes explained that it was his intention to drive hard in the early stages of the event and hand over the lead position at the first opportunity.  He further added that after beginning on terms with ANTETOKOUNMPO was unable to cross and when entering the first turn was presented with a challenge from LOCHINVAR CAMARO three wide and again elected to push forward maintaining his position outside of the lead in an attempt to find the marker pegs however again was unsuccessful.  Coming to the end of the first quarter looked to ease and take cover however LOCHINVAR CAMARO was able to progress forward to the position in the lead and was left racing without cover for the remainder of the event and weakened over the concluding stages to be beaten some distance.  A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.  Stewards reported his comments however left the matter open to review the wagering in the event.

SALLY BIGTIME– Pre-race sample was taken.  Post-race sample was taken.

LOCHINVAR CAMARO– When questioned regarding the tactics adopted driver J Gallagher explained that it was the intention to be forward and lead the event as he felt he on the class runner.  He further added that after beginning well was left racing three wide rounding the first turn and looked to ease coming to the apex however at that time SHEZA REBEL had commenced to ease the tempo and from that point pushed forward to the position outside of the leader and eventually working forward to the position in the lead with ANTETOKOUNMPO surrendering.  He further added that travelled well for the remainder of the event but given the early tempo was somewhat flat over the concluding stages.  Stewards reported his comments.

RUSHYS CHANCE– Broke stride shortly after the start was affected.  Connections were advised given its recent record it will now be excluded from the mobile barrier draw.  Again broke stride racing down the home straight on the first occasion and into the back straight on the final occasion.  A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.  Connections were advised it will be stood down until it can requalify on one occasion.

 

RACE 6 – COCA COLA PACE – 1609 metres

COLERNE – Hampered as the field raced down the back straight on the final occasion.

HASLER– Severely checked after locking wheels with GUNFIGHTERSGHOST racing into the back straight on the final occasion.

POPSTAROMAR– Broke stride in the early stages of the score up.  A warning was issued.  Post-race sample was taken.

SINBINNED– Checked as the field raced down the back straight on the final occasion.

FLYING SHARD– Pre-race sample was taken.  Severely checked as the field raced down the back straight on the final occasion.

ROSE NOIRE NZ– Raced roughly shortly after the start was affected.  A warning was issued.  Checked as the field raced down the back straight on the final occasion.

GUNFIGHTERSGHOST– Locked wheels with HASLER as the field entered the back straight on the final occasion.  Stewards could not lay blame on any driver or horse for the incident as there was small movement from both parties and advised drivers to take care in similar circumstances.  When questioned regarding the performance driver B Pringle advised that as per usual racing pattern was driven forward early in an attempt to find the lead however was unsuccessful and left racing without cover and it was somewhat flat racing into the back straight on the final occasion before locking wheels.  He advised it was the intention from connections for it to be spelled.

DAGGY LAMB NZ– Checked as the field raced down the back straight on the final occasion.

 

RACE 7 – THOMPSON’S WHOLESALE BAKERY PACE – 1609 metres

BE GOOD BENNY– Driver C Griffiths was reprimanded under rule 163(1)(a)(iii) in that when racing down the home straight on the final occasion attempted to shift wider with HOLD BACK THE RIVER NZ to its outside initially was wheel to wheel however gained an advantage and shifted inside the line and as a result HOLD BACK THE RIVER NZ was checked.  In not taking more severe action Stewards were mindful of the movement of MAGIC SHOOS which was in advance shifting up the track.

MAGIC SHOOS– Driver G Panella was fined the sum of $200 under rule 162(1)(www) in that when driving out over the concluding stages failed to make sufficient effort to prevent her runner from shifting up the track which hindered the running of BEE GODD BENNY which in turn checked the running of HOLD BACK THE RIVER NZ.  Post-race sample was taken.

HOLD BACK THE RIVER NZ– Checked inside the final 100 metres.

CAPTAIN DORIAN– Obtained inside running over the concluding stages.

MY ULTIMATE MAJOR– Pre-race sample was taken.  Hung out throughout the event.  A warning was issued.  A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.

 

RACE 8 – TOOHEYS PACE – 1609 metres

KILLARA RENEGADE– Post-race sample was taken.

DRIVING MISS MOLLY– Had a tendency to hang out during the latter stages of the score up and was out of position as the start was affected.  Connections were advised it will be placed on its last chance in the mobile barrier draw.

FRANCO STYLES– Hampered shortly after the start was affected.  Checked and broke stride prior to the field entering the home straight for the run to the finish.

ALTIANO– Upon request from connections was re-included into the mobile barrier draw.

MYSTICAL SUNSHINE– Pre-race sample was taken.  Driver R Atkins pleaded guilty to a charge under rule 163(1)(a)(iii) in that prior to entering the home straight for the run to the finish permitted his runner to shift wider on the track without the required clearance over FRANCO STYLES whereas a result that runner was checked and broke stride for a short distance.  Driver R Atkins licence to drive in races was suspended for a period of 10 days.  When considering penalty Stewards took into account his record in relation to interference and guilty plea.

RAINBOW REASON– Held up for clear running over the concluding stages and not fully tested.
