LIGHTNING BOB– Examined pre and post-race by the veterinarian with no abnormalities reported. Driver J Gallagher was advised to take greater care in that after entering the home straight for the run to the finish, after being held up for clear running, shifted wider on the track placing MAMMALS RIDDLE in restricted room.

IRE OF THE DRAGON– Fractious in the early stages of the score up and galloped for a short distance and as a result SPIRIT KING was able to progress through which was drawn barrier 9 and as a result was unable to be restrained to keep its second row barrier position with IRE OF THE DRAGON progressing forward a false start was declared. A warning was issued.

YAHOO NZ– pre-race blood sample. Post-race swab sample.

RACE 4 – RARITY WHOLESALE PACE – 1609 metres

MAN FROM BRAAVOS– When questioned regarding the tactics adopted Driver C Griffiths explained to Stewards it was the intention to be forward in the event however was beaten for speed in the early stages of the event and left racing 3 wide. He added that when rounding the turn into the home straight on the first occasion he looked to move forward to find the position outside the leader however this was unsuccessful and he was obliged to be restrained to the rear of the field. After finding cover MAN FROM BRAAVOS failed to travel genuinely and was under pressure from the 600 metres being somewhat disappointing over the concluding stages. A post-race veterinary examination could not reveal any abnormality.

BATTEN THE HATCHES– Checked shortly after the start was effected when locking wheels with ULTIMATE DIVA. Checked and broke as the field negotiated the final turn. When enquiring into the reasons for OUR ULTIMATE LOIS and BATTEN THE HATCHES galloping rounding the final turn, Stewards noted that OUR ULTIMATE LOIS when manoeuvring wider engaged in the jostle with BATTEN THE HATCHES to which Driver J Gallagher resisted the challenge and shortly thereafter broke stride. Stewards could not lay blame on any driver or horse for the incident and advised drivers to take greater care in similar circumstances.

LOOKIN GOOD MARGIE– Had a tendency to over race in the early and middle stages of the event when wide. Was severely checked and locked wheels as the field negotiated the final turn.

DANCE WITH CARMER– Post-race swab sample. Driver G Chapple was found guilty of a charge under Rule 163(1)(a)(iii) in that upon entering the home straight for the run to the finish failed to make sufficient effort to prevent his runner from shifting wider on the track which placed THE COUNTRY SHERIFF in restricted room when racing to the inside of SPOOK CROCKER and as a result was checked and raced roughly. Driver G Chapple’s licence to drive in races was suspended for a period of 7 days. When considering penalty Stewards took into account his good driving record in relation to interference in addition to the tractability of his runner throughout that portion of the event.
