General: Stewards opened an inquiry into the reasons for CRETACEOUS (D Kerr) breaking gait racing in the back straight on the final occasion. After interviewing Drivers T Stampalia (CHRISTOPHANO) and D Kerr (CRETACEOUS) and after viewing the official Stewards patrol vision, it was established that CRETACEOUS racing on the peg line in the back straight on the final occasion, with a distinct advantage over CHRISTOPHANO, Mr Kerr moved his horse out to the running line slowly in two distinct moves so as to give Ms Stampalia time to go with the shift. As Ms Stampalia was not in a position to be able to resist the move Mr Kerr reported that he had expected Ms Stampalia to go with the timely move. Ms Stampalia reported that she did not know that CRETACEOUS was shifting outwards and that CRETACEOUS contacted her near side front foot causing that runner to break gait. In review, Stewards were of the opinion that Ms Stampalia should have been mindful that CRETACEOUS was making a forward move to shift CHRISTOPHANO and Ms Stampalia was reminded of her obligations under local rule 164 guidelines for easing, assessing ease out incidents and as a result no further action was taken.
