Trainers with multiple runners in any one race were questioned in relation to their intended tactics.
RACE 1 – TROTS WA PACE (2242MS)
LIL DELIGHT (A. Suvaljko) - Checked when leaving the back straight on the final occasion when another runner broke gait.
COLORADO BANNER NZ (N. Turvey) - Contacted the sulky of ROCKIN THE TREND leaving the back straight on the final occasion and broke gait.
General: On inquiry it was established that ROCKIN THE TREND (J. Suvaljko) shifted inwards when not sufficiently clear of COLORADO BANNER NZ (N. Turvey) and consequently contacted its front leg causing it to break gait. Mr Suvaljko’s licence to drive in races was suspended for a period of 7 days to commence at midnight Thursday 28 March 2024 and to expire at midnight on Thursday 4 April 2024. When assessing penalty, Stewards considered his good record under the rule, guilty plea, and the mid-level degree of carelessness and interference, and the consequences of his actions.
RACE 2 – TABTOUCH HAVE YOU GOT THE TOUCH? PACE (2242MS)
DIAMOND DANCE NZ – Hung inwards in the front straight on the final occasion. A warning was issued against the mare’s racing manner.
GRAPELLIES BOY – Inconvenienced in the front straight on the final occasion and broke gait when DIAMOND DANCE NZ hung inwards. After considering all factors no action was taken against the gelding.
RACE 3 – TRIPLE M'S WORKDAYS WITH SUZE STAKES PACE (1823MS)
MERAVIGLIA (T. Stone) - Broke gait in the score up. A warning was placed on the gelding’s starting manner.
OUR SURROGATE (C. Draper) – Over- raced through the early and middle stages of the event. Trainer C DRAPER was fined $50 under the provisions HR273(6)(b) for presenting the gelding in incorrect gear (Hidez hood Off).
ELLUCIFFER – Held up for clear running in the home straight.
BATAVIA STREAMLINE - Held up for clear running in the early stages of the home straight.
ALTA HURRAH – Over-raced through the early and middle stages.
RACE 4 – THE TROTS WA - HARNESS THE DREAM 4YO+ PACE (2242MS)
BREWERY LANE (K. Harper) - The near side blinker loosened during running. Hung outwards throughout.
RACE 5 – RACES THIS THURSDAY RWWA WESTBRED FEATURE PACE (2242MS)
No racing incidents to report.
RACE 6 – SWAN DRAUGHT (DIV.1) PACE (2242MS)
ALTA RAPIDO (A. De Campo) - Underwent a pre-race vet examination and was passed fit to start. A post-race veterinary examination of the mare revealed no abnormalities.
SUB MARINER (K. Harper) - Shifted inwards in the front straight on the first occasion when over-racing due to the moderate speed.
RACE 7 – TEAM TEAL SUPPORTING WOMENCAN PACE (2636SS)
AXLE ROCKS (C. Voak) - Raced roughly leaving the front straight on the first occasion. A warning was placed on the gelding.
DOURADO (A. De Campo) - Held up from on straightening until taken inwards near the 50m to secure clear running. When questioned as to the reason why he had not moved from a one wide to a three wide position prior to being covered by GOLDEN HORSESHOE (E. SUVALJKO) approaching the 500m, Driver A De Campo stated that GOLDEN HORSESHOE made ground to his outside more quickly than he anticipated with that runner then remaining in a position to his outside where he was unable to shift wider and improve forward and consequently could not obtain clear running until the final stages. Mr De Campo was told that he had erred in his tactics by not shifting to a three wide position prior to being covered and he was told to display more initiative in future to avoid becoming held up for clear running whenever possible in future.
ROCKNROLL SPIRIT (G Hall Jnr)- Raced roughly after the start.
I SEE FIRE (S. Suvaljko) - Raced roughly after start. Inconvenienced leaving the front straight on the first occasion.
General: Driver J Suvaljko (ISAIDBOO) was reprimanded under HR163(1)(a)(iii) for contributing to interference for shifting inwards near the winning post on the first occasion causing DOURADO (A De Campo) and I SEE FIRE (S Suvaljko) to be held tight.
RACE 8 – RADIO GREAT SOUTHERN 3YO FILLIES PACE (2242MS)
SANFORD SHIRLEY – Over-raced through the early stages. Commenced to give ground from the 1000m. A post-race veterinary examination of the mare revealed no abnormalities. Trainer J Fagg advised he would monitor the mare’s recovery and report any abnormalities and added that the mare would now be sent for a spell. Due to the poor performance, Mr Fagg was advised that the mare will now be stood down from racing for a period of 6 days and until the completion of a satisfactory requalifying trial.
VYBRANT - Inconvenienced behind a tiring runner in the front straight to receive the bell.
MANEA – Inconvenienced and tightened by a tiring runner in the front straight to receive the bell.
