Trainers with multiple runners in any one race were questioned in relation to their intended tactics.
All engaged drivers at today’s meeting were subjected to rapid antigen tests being supervised by the Stewards prior to fulfilling their drives.
RACE 1 – THE TROTS WA – OWNERS APPRECIATION 3YO WESTBRED MAIDEN PACE (1823MS)
HOT CINDER (G. Schofield) – a late withdrawal at 10.45am by order of Stewards acting on confirmed advice from trainer G. Schofield the filly had sustained an injury to the off-hind leg.
General: Drivers D Miller (NYARNYEE NAVAJO) and M Young (TAKETHECANNOLI) were interviewed in regard to reasons NYARNEE NAVAJO (D. Miller) raced roughly when racing out of the back straight on the final occasion. It was established driver D. Miller had applied the whip and activated gear shortly prior to the incident, resulting in the filly racing keenly and contacting the near side wheel of TAKETHECANNOLI who was hanging inwards, and raced roughly as a consequence. Both drivers were reminded of their obligations in order to prevent such incidents occurring in the future.
RACE 2 – THE TROTS WA – HARNESS THE DREAM PACE (2242MS)
SANDFORD LORETTA (H. Hancock) – Tired over the concluding stages.
SALIGO BAY (K. Harper) - Fractious in the score up.
RACE 3 – RADIO GREAT SOUTHERN 4YO+ PACE (2242MS)
THE AMBER HARE (J. Young) – the declaration of all-clear was delayed in order for driver J Young to view the official patrol footage of home straight on the final occasion. Subsequently, Ms Young was satisfied an objection was not warranted and the all-clear was declared on the Judge’s numbers of 4, 6, 5 and 1.
RACE 4 – XXX GOLD PACE (2242MS)
BETTOR MOVE ALONG (T. Wheeler) – the off-side shortener pin failed during the score up placing the driver at a disadvantage. Subsequently broke gait shortly after the start was affected and failed to take any competitive part thereafter.
KRAKKA LIGHTNING (S. Butterworth) – began to give ground from the vicinity of the 600m to be beaten 173m. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Driver S Butterworth reported the gelding may have failed to handle the rain affected track. Trainer T. Groves advised the gelding will now be going for a spell.
WHITE LIGHTNING (K. Harper) – inconvenienced behind a galloping runner racing in the back straight on the first occasion.
TUX AND TAILS (K. Symington) – driver K. Symington reported the off-side shortener pin failed to release during the event.
General: Drivers S. Butterworth (KRAKKA LIGHTNING) and K. Harper (WHITE LIGHTNING NZ) were interviewed into the reasons for WHITE LIGHTENING NZ racing in a three wide position in the early stages of the event. At conclusion, driver S. Butterworth was fined $100 under the provisions of rule 163(3) for failing to trail with the head of his horse behind the seat of the sulky being trailed.
RACE 5 – TABTOUCH RWWA WESTBRED FEATURE PACE (2242MS)
JUST FOR LOVE (C. Voak) – began to give ground from the vicinity of the 400m to be beaten 105m. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. When questioned, driver C. Voak stated in hindsight he should not have pressed forward to lead the one wide line in the early stages and added the mare is better suited to racing with cover. A warning was placed on the mare’s performance.
RACE 6 – TABTOUCH PAST THE POST PAYOUTS JOHN HIGGINS MEMORIAL HEAT 1 (2242MS)
No racing incidents to report.
RACE 7 – DRY JULY TRY A ZERO PACE (2242MS)
No racing incidents to report.
RACE 8 – BEFORE IT ALL GETS TOO MUCH … TALK TO A MATE PACE (2242MS)
LAVINJANE (B. Postans) – began to give ground from the vicinity of the 500m to be beaten 110m. A warning was placed on the gelding's performance.
ONLY FIVE STARTZZZ (H. Charles) – raced roughly from after the start was effected until racing out of the back straight on the first occasion.
