STEWARDS REPORT FOR MELTON

Trainers with multiple horses engaged in any given race were questioned as to the intended driving tactics to be adopted

 

 

RACE 1 – NEED FOR SPEED NOMS NOW OPEN TROT (1720 MS)

DELS DESTINY – held up for a clear run rounding the final turn before finishing in 5th place.

ROCKY VALLEY– inconvenienced at the entrance to the home straight.

DESERT ASSASSIN– outside sulky wheel contacted approaching the 1400m and sustained a flat tyre. Hung in and contacted marker pegs near the 200m.

BASILICA– trotted roughly shortly after the start. Galloped clear of interference at the entrance to the home straight.

WHIZZBANG DAN– driver Zac Phillips was fined $100 under rule 168(1)(a) for careless driving in allowing his drive to contact the sulky of DESERT ASSASSIN approaching the 1400m resulting in that runner sustaining a flat tyre.

IMPERIAL WHIZ NZ – due to the gelding having competed in more than 200 races was examined by the veterinarian before and after the race in accordance with HRV policy which revealed no apparent abnormalities.

 

RACE 2 – TAB WE'RE ON TROT (1720 MS)

ABBRACCIAMI– galloped shortly after the start and will be excluded from the mobile barrier draw. Galloped clear of interference near the 300m.

SILENT REVERIE– pulled hard when positioned outside of the leader. Gave ground over the concluding stages.

PREFERRED LOVE– held up for a clear run before utilising the sprint lane to finish in 2nd place.

THE PRIESTESS– trainer Chris Svanosio was cautioned for presenting this filly to race in gear which was not correctly declared. Inconvenienced after the start.

KYVALLEY MICHAEL NZ– trainer Brent Lilley was fined $50 under rule 273 (6)(b) for presenting this colt to race in gear which was not correctly declared. Stewards considered Mr Lilley’s recent record. Out of position at the start and will continue to be placed outside the mobile barrier draw.

MIDNIGHT EAGLE– late withdrawal at 9:04am on veterinary advice.

 

RACE 3 – SWIFT SIGNS TROT (1720 MS)

FLING IT RAINBOW – tired (54m) over the concluding stages and has now been placed on its last chance to race competitively.

SISTA EVARISTA– declared a late withdrawal at 12:55pm on veterinary advice.

 

RACE 4 – AUSTRALIAN PACING GOLD PACE (1720 MS)

RIVER PATROL NZ – due to the gelding being 13 years of age and having competed in more than 200 races was examined by the veterinarian before and after the race in accordance with HRV policy which revealed no apparent abnormalities.

KIMCHI– held up for a clear run in the home straight.

MASTER CARIBBEAN - due to the gelding not having started in a race since January 2022 was examined by the veterinarian before and after the race in accordance with HRV policy which revealed no apparent abnormalities. Tired (59m) over the concluding stages and a warning was issued against the performance of the gelding.

EL BOSTON– pulled hard during the middle stages. Held up for a clear run until using the sprint lane to win the event.

BEST BACK BRUCE– driver Leilani Justice was fined $200 under rule 156(2)(a) for using the whip free of the rein passing the 200m.

I OF THE HURRIKANE– held up for a clear run rounding the final turn.

REMI LOU– driver Ben Xiriha was reminded of his whip action obligations.

 

RACE 5 – IRT EASTERN CHALLENGE PACE (2240 MS)

JUST PEDRO– paced roughly rounding the final turn.

SMART AND MIGHTY NZ– pulled hard during the score up. Hung in and contacted marker pegs near the 200m before continuing to be inclined to hang in.

SUNSTAR– driver Ben Xiriha was cautioned for the manner in which he momentarily shifted ground approaching the back straight on the final occasion causing some inconvenience to HEAVENLY BRIGADE NZ.

SASSYOLA- due to the mare having competed in more than 200 races was examined by the veterinarian before and after the race in accordance with HRV policy which revealed no apparent abnormalities. When queried in relation to the decision to improve three wide without cover over the latter stages, driver Leilani Justice explained that the mare appeared to be travelling well enough, however a short distance after she realised that the spreaders on the mare had broken resulting in the mare pacing roughly and giving ground. Subsequent inspection of the gear revealed the spreaders to be in satisfactory condition.

HEAVENLY BRIGADE NZ– hung out approaching the 800m and then inconvenienced for a short distance.

 

RACE 6 – MELTON CITY COUNCIL TROT (1720 MS)

MAJESTIC JEWEL – gave ground over the concluding stages.

LOVENUS– held up for a clear run rounding the final turn before finishing in 4th place.

KELLYBUSH– held up for a clear run before using the sprint lane to finish in 3rd place.

DONA AMALIA– galloped clear of interference racing into the first turn and a warning was issued.

KYVALLEY PAINT NZ– inconvenienced and held up for a clear run rounding the final turn.

AGAINST THE BRIDLE– hung in before improving three wide without cover over the latter stages before the gelding continued to hang in. A warning was issued against the racing manners of the gelding.

 

RACE 7 – LIONHEART SECURITY PACE (1720 MS)

FAKE CULLECTION– hung in during the latter part of the score up and was placed on its last chance in the barrier draw. Hung in entering the first turn and has now been placed on its last chance to race truly.

SPUN SILVER– raced erratically during the score up.

POCKETROCKET ORO– held up for a clear run until using the sprint lane to finish in 4th place.  

 

RACE 8 – GARRARDS PACE (1720 MS)

SWEETSAZZYMYLAZZY– gave ground over the concluding stages.

RARIFIED MAN– hung in and contacted marker pegs rounding the final turn.

SILVER DOMINO– inconvenienced and held up for a clear run rounding the final turn.

ADMIRALOFTHEFLEET– galloped during the early part of the score up and a warning was issued.

 

RACE 9 – LIFESTYLE COMMUNITY TROT (1720 MS)

ROMANTIC NINA – pulled hard during the middle stages. Galloped clear of interference in the home straight. Stood down from racing until the satisfactory completion of one (1) trial.

NELLIE JOY– galloped clear of interference shortly after the start, trailed the field thereafter and will be placed outside the mobile barrier draw.

BROOKIES BABE– driver Ben Xiriha accidently dropped his whip in the home straight.

 

RACE 10 – MIMOSA HOMES TROTTERS MAIDEN (1720 MS)

MAXIMEZ– galloped shortly after the start, trailed the field thereafter and will be placed outside the mobile barrier draw.

ONETWOSKIPPERFEW– hung in approaching the 800m.

WALLIS– galloped during the score up, out of position at the start and will continue to be placed outside the mobile barrier draw. Galloped clear of interference near the 300m.

RAGNA THOR– galloped clear of interference shortly after the start and will continue to be placed outside the mobile barrier draw.

 

RACE 11 - ALLIED EXPRESS TROTTERS MAIDEN (1720 MS)

HILLWINSOME– due to the gelding racing at Melton (12/6/24) the night prior, was examined by the veterinarian before and after the race which revealed no apparent abnormalities. Began badly, trailed the field throughout and will be placed outside of the mobile barrier draw.

ALABAMA DELTA– galloped clear of interference near the 1200m.

KAOTIC FLAIR– held up for a clear run until using the sprint lane to finish in 2nd place.

MILADY LUCY– inconvenienced near the 1200m.

CALANTHE– Began badly, trailed the field throughout and will be placed outside of the mobile barrier draw.

COL DU GRANON- inconvenienced near the 1200m.

KYVALLEY MISTY– trotted roughly over the final stages.

ROUGE QUEEN– inconvenienced shortly after the start.

PRETTY PENNY MAORI– trainer Brian Kiesey was cautioned for presenting the mare in gear which was not correctly declared.
