STEWARDS REPORT FOR TABCORP PARK MELTON

Trainers with multiple horses engaged in any given race were questioned as to the intended driving tactics to be adopted

RACE 1 DNR LOGISTICS PACE (2240 MS)

Hurricane Hussler pulled hard during the middle stages.

Nomorelying was held up rounding the final turn and in the early part of the straight and had difficulty in fully establishing clear running thereafter.

James Herbertson, driver of Foolish Pleasure ($10.00), was questioned regarding the performance of the gelding which finished in 12th and last placing beaten 40m. Mr Herbertson explained Foolish Pleasure was under pressure approaching the 1000m and proved most disappointing thereafter. Post-race veterinary and endoscopic examination of Foolish Pleasure revealed no significant findings. The stable will be contacted in the coming days regarding the progress of the gelding subsequent to the event.

Robert Walters, driver of Hayden Bromac NZ, was cautioned for tightening in that approaching the 1900m he permitted Hayden Bromac NZ to shift in when not fully clear of Mirakuru resulting in that runner being steadied.

Robert Walters, driver of Hayden Bromac NZ, was fined $200 under Rule 156(2)(a) for using the whip with more than a wrist only flicking motion inside the final 200m.

Nomorelying underwent a post-race endoscopic examination at the request of connections due to the gelding making an abnormal respiratory noise during the event. No significant findings were detected (Grade 2 EIPH).

SUPPLEMENTARY REPORT - 10 AUGUST 2022

Ashleigh Herbertson, trainer of Foolish Pleasure advised subsequent to the poor performance at Tabcorp Park Melton on August 6 2022, that the gelding had recovered well.  Mr.Herbertson stated Foolish Pleasure will have a light week of training before continuing with the current preparation.

RACE 2 MELTON CITY COUNCIL PACE (1ST HEAT) (2240 MS)

Yankee Gold was fractious during the initial stages of the score up and a warning was issued.

Rebecca Bartley, driver of Western Sonador ($9.00), was questioned regarding the performance of the gelding which finished in 5th placing beaten 22m. Ms Bartley explained that Western Sonador was first up and would derive benefit from the run. Post-race veterinary and endoscopic examination of Western Sonador revealed the gelding to be displaying Grade 2 EIPH.

RACE 3 – IRT AUSTRALIA PACE (2ND HEAT) (2240 MS)

Mighty Flying Art NZ, which was held up rounding the final turn, was disappointed for a run inside Crime Writer passing the 150m and contacted a marker peg as a result. Mighty Flying Art NZ was then held up to the finish.

Fynn Frost NZ was held up inside the final 200m.

RACE 4 – HIP POCKET WORKWEAR & SAFETY 3YO PACE (2240 MS)

Lochart Shard NZ underwent a pre-race veterinary examination due to the colt racing fiercely in its pre-race warm up requiring the assistance of the Clerk of the Course. Lochart Shard NZ was cleared to start.

Codename Marcus hung in rounding the final turn.

Stewards refrained from taking action against Jack Laugher, driver of the leader Bet On The Tiger NZ, for failing to adhere to the minimum sectional time requirements for the first quarter of the last mile. In arriving at this outcome Stewards were mindful Bet On The Tiger NZ led clearly, Mr Laugher made multiple attempts to quicken the speed and the weather conditions which were prevailing.                                                                        

RACE 5 - PROUD NEW SPONSOR OF HRV - WESTERN FORD PACE (1720 MS)

Franco Jolto was declared a late scratching at 3:48pm on veterinary advice.

Love Ina Chevy NZ underwent pre and post-race veterinary examinations in accordance with HRV Policy due to the gelding having started in more than 200 races. Neither examination revealed any significant abnormalities.

Cobber pulled hard during the middle stages.

Love Ina Chevy NZ and Captain Wilson locked wheels passing the 300m resulting in Love Ina Chevy NZ being checked.

Arggghhh shifted out under pressure inside the final 200m.

Jack Laugher, driver of Magic Mike NZ, explained that in his view the gelding has performed somewhat disappointing in its recent starts which continued this evening. Post-race veterinary and endoscopic examination of Magic Mike NZ revealed the gelding to be displaying Grade 1 EIPH. The stable will be contacted in the coming days regarding the progress of Magic Mike NZ following the event.

SUPPLEMENTARY REPORT - 10 AUGUST 2022

Eric Anderson, stable representative of Magic Mike NZ advised subsequent to the run at Tabcorp Park Melton on August 6 2022, that the gelding had recovered well.  Mr.Anderson could offer no explanation for the performance and stated Magic Mike NZ would continue with the current preparation.

RACE 6 – ALABAR VICBRED PLATINUM MARES SPRINT CHAMPIONSHIP FINAL (GROUP 3) (1720 MS)

Muckinbar Diva was declared a late scratching at 3:44pm on veterinary advice.

Heritage Lady and Bonnie Belle locked wheels passing the 1400m.

Bonnie Belle was held up rounding the final turn and in the early part of the straight.

Connor Clarke, driver of Call On Me, was questioned regarding the performance of the mare which finished in 9th placing beaten 21m. Mr Clarke explained that Call On Me travelled well throughout, however as he directed Call On Me wider passing the 500m as Runaway Celebrity improved to his outside the mare failed to travel and proved disappointing thereafter. Post-race veterinary and endoscopic examination of Call On Me revealed the mare to be displaying Grade 2 EIPH. The stable will be contacted in the coming days regarding the progress of the mare following the event.

RACE 7 – TAB OUR MAESTRO FREE FOR ALL (2240 MS)

Yorkshire NZ pulled hard during the middle stages.

Rackemup Tigerpie, which was held up rounding the final turn and the early part of the straight, was inconvenienced approaching the 100m when Ozzie Battler shifted out and Boncel Benjamin shifted in.

Josh Aiken, driver of Reactor Now, was fined $100 under Rule 156(3) for using the whip in an unapproved manner in that inside the final 200m he applied the whip on more occasions than is permitted.

Nathan Jack, driver of Line Up NZ ($1.85 fav/5th), explained he was satisfied with the performance considering the horse was second up tonight and over-raced during the middle stages. Mr Jack added that he feels Line Up NZ may perform at its best when not leading.  Post-race veterinary and endoscopic examination failed to reveal any significant findings.

SUPPLEMENTARY REPORT - 10 AUGUST 2022

Russell Jack, trainer of Line Up NZ advised subsequent to the poor performance at Tabcorp Park Melton on August 6 2022, that the horse had pulled up with some soreness behind.  Mr.Jack stated Line Up NZ will undergo a full veterinary check and report any findings to the Stewards.

RACE 8 – WOODLANDS STUD TROT (2240 MS)

Whos The Man began badly and will now be placed outside the draw in future mobile start events.

Robbie Royale NZ pulled hard during the middle stages.

Valley Star NZ and Robbie Royale NZ were held up inside the final 200m.

Kyvalley Chief NZ was held up rounding the final turn and the early part of the straight.

Sheza Pleasure was held up rounding the final turn and in the early part of the straight prior to utilising the sprint lane.

Stewards refrained from taking action against Anthony Crossland, driver of the leader Rules Dont Apply, for failing to adhere to the minimum sectional time requirements for the first quarter of the last mile. In arriving at this outcome Stewards were mindful of the faster than average lead time and that the gelding led clearly during this portion of the event.           

Anthony Crossland, trainer/driver of Rules Dont Apply ($5.50/9th), was questioned regarding the performance of the gelding. Mr Crossland explained Rules Dont Apply did not trot fluently from the 400m onwards and that the gelding’s gait improves with race fitness. Post-race veterinary and endoscopic examination of Rules Dont Apply revealed the gelding to be displaying Grade 2 EIPH and the thumps.

SUPPLEMENTARY REPORT - 11 AUGUST 2022

Anthony Crossland, trainer of Rules Dont Apply advised subsequent to the poor performance at Tabcorp Park Melton on August 6 2022, that blood tests had revealed a low grade virus.  Mr.Crossland stated Rules Dont Apply will be treated accordingly and a light couple of weeks of training before continuing with the current preparation.

RACE 9 – HBV STALLION GUIDE LIGHTFOOT LAURELS (GROUP 3) (2240 SS)

The all clear of this event was delayed allowing Stewards the opportunity to review the replays of the final 200m. Upon review it was established that Queen Invasion shifted out under pressure approaching the 150m simultaneous to Adele NZ shifting in resulting in Peakz Luck NZ and Adele NZ jostling for a distance. As Stewards were satisfied that this occurrence was contributed to by multiple factors all clear was given. Chris Lang, driver of Queen Invasion, was cautioned for shifting ground and reminded of his obligations to maintain a straight course when leading.

Aldebaran Tess NZ began badly and will continue to be placed outside the draw in future standing start events.

Aldebaran Kiri broke clear of interference passing the 2000m.

Kate Gath, driver of Vacation Hill NZ ($5.00/6th), explained given the 20m handicap and the consistent speed throughout she was content with the performance. Post-race veterinary and endoscopic examination of Vacation Hill NZ revealed no significant findings.

RACE 10 – TAB PLAY CENTRAL PACE (2240 MS)

No racing incidents to report.
