STEWARDS REPORT FOR TABCORP PARK MELTON

Trainers with multiple horses engaged in any given race were questioned as to the intended driving tactics to be adopted

 

RACE 1 – PAULINE MADDEN LEGAL PACE (2240 MS)

Arocknatthepark Nz (Barrier 9) was fractious prior to the start for which a warning was issued.

Rocket boy raced keenly during the middle stages.

Lets Go There contacted the final marker peg prior to utilising the sprint lane on the final occasion.

Byalla Boy race roughly when placed under pressure over the concluding stages of the event.

Wingate guy weakened over the concluding stages to finish in 11th position beaten 51.1m. Given the fast mile rate no action was taken.

Iron Chariot weakened over the concluding stages to finish in 12th position beaten 65.6m. Given the fast mile rate no action was taken.

James Herbertson, the driver of Our Money Rocks was questioned as to the performance of the gelding which gave ground over the concluding stages to finish in 10th position beaten 44.2m ($5.50). Mr Herbertson explained that after improving 3 wide during the middle stages, his gelding failed to travel and obtained no respite given the fast mile rate. A post-race veterinarian examination including an endoscopic examination reveal the gelding to have suffered a Grade 3 EIPH. Acting under HRV policy, Our Money Rocks was stood down for a period of 28 days, until a certificate of fitness is submitted in addition to one requalifying trial.

RACE 2 – THOROUGHBRED FENCING TROT (2240 MS)

Greg Norman, the trainer of Blue Coman NZ was cautioned for failing to have the gear form accurately recorded for the gelding.

Blue Coman Nz (Barrier 10) began badly when galloping away, trailed the field throughout and will now continue to be excluded from the mobile barrier draw.

Near the 1300m, My Use To Be broke gait free of interference and will now be stood down until it completes 2 requalifying trials and for a period of 10 days.

Ryan Duffy, the driver of Bromwich was questioned as to the performance of the gelding which failed to run on over the concluding stages, to finish in 10th position beaten 46.1m ($5.00). Mr Duffy explained that the connections were disappointed with the run, and he could offer no valid excuse as to the performance. A post-race veterinarian examination including an endoscopic examination, failed to reveal any abnormalities.

RACE 3 – MKMV TROT (2240 MS)

Trainer partnership of S.M & J.M McNaulty was cautioned for failing to have the gear form accurately recorded for Travel Bug.

Chinese Whisper NZ (Barrier 9) was out of position at the start and will continue to be excluded from the mobile barrier draw.

Travel Bug raced keenly during the middle stages when position outside of the leader and gave ground to finish in 9th position beaten 49.8m.

Ultimate Stride NZ broke gait near the 500m after shifting in slightly and coming together with Chissy to its inside. Ultimate Stride NZ was placed on its last chance to race truly.

Royal Charlotte shifted in and contacted the final marker peg prior to utilising the sprint lane on the final occasion.

Majestical Belle was held up for clear running in the early stages of the home straight.

RACE 4 –DH STEEL BATTLE OF THE CLAIMERS FINAL (1720 MS)

Pocket Thedeal NZ was examined by the club’s veterinarian prior to and following the event as a result of the gelding racing in excess of 200 race starts. No abnormalities were detected on either examination.

Backintown was declared a late scratching at 4.50pm on veterinarian advice.

Amillion Promises, Mighty Flying Art NZ and Gobsmacked were all claimed following the event.

RACE 5 -YEOMANS SLATE & STONE PACE (2240 MS)

Rishi Nz (Barrier 3) broke gait during the score up, was out of position the start, trailed the field throughout and will now be excluded from the mobile barrier draw.

Major Meister NZ which raced outside the leader from approximately the mile, gave ground over the concluding stages, and whilst yielding ground, hung in badly nearing the 400m, to finish in 9th position, beaten 43.7m ($7.00). When questioned regarding the performance, Driver Greg Sugars explained his gelding travel well up until approximately the 400m at which point, Major Meister hung in badly, lost momentum and failed to run on as well as expected. A post-race veterinary examination including an endoscopic examination revealed the gelding to have suffered a Grade 2 EIPH.

A post-race veterinary examination of Its Back In The Day NZ revealed the gelding to have bled from both nostrils. As this was the geldings 2nd bilateral bleed, acting under the provisions of AHRR 101(3)(b), the gelding was stood down for racing for life.

RACE 6 – VHRMA GRAHAM GOFFIN MEMORIAL (1720 MS)

Ajay Breezy Rose was declared a late scratching at 8.14pm on veterinary advice. Acting on veterinary recommendations Ajay Breezy Rose was stood down for a period of 7 days and until a certificate of fitness is submitted.

Connor Clarke, the driver of Call On Me was questioned as to his tactics and the overall performance of his mare which weakened over the concluding stages to finish in 9th position beaten 50.3m. Mr Clarke explained that pre-race he was instructed to drive the mare forward and after making use of his mare to cross Common Courtesy on the entry to the first turn, his mare commence to race keenly and given the early use, he eased and allowed Polly Put Kettleon to take up the lead in the hope that his mare would settle with cover. Mr Clarke stated that once obtaining cover his mare failed to settle in the run, proved disappointing and failed to run on as expected. A post-race examination including an endoscopic examination revealed the mare to have suffered a Grade 3 EIPH. Acting under HRV policy, Call On Me was stood down for a period of 28 days, until a certificate of fitness is submitted in addition to one requalifying trial.

It was noted that Outback Shadow was inconvenienced rounding the final turn when taken back by the weakening Call On Me.

A post-race veterinarian examination of Sew What revealed blood in its mouth with no significant findings.

Connor Ronan, the driver of Common Courtesy was questioned as to the performance of his mare which finished in 7th position beaten 27.8m ($3.80). Mr Ronan explained that the use made of his mare in the early stages in combination to the fast mile rate had contributed to his mare failing to run on.

RACE 7 – BENSTUD STANDARDBREDS RISING STARS PACE FINAL (GROUP 3) (2240 MS)

Captain Pins NZ (Barrier 13) was out of position at the start and will continue to be excluded from the mobile barrier draw.

Major Watson Nz (Barrier 11) broke gait shortly after the start inconveniencing Ultimate Vinnie. The gelding will now be excluded from the mobile barrier draw.

Bailly McDonough, the driver of Ultimate Vinniewas cautioned for failing to ensure that his gelding was in position at the starting point.

Nearing the 1000m, Captain Pins NZ which was racing keenly, broke gait when the pace in the event was eased. As this was not deemed to be as a result of any careless driving no direct action was taken.

Its Ebonynivory was held up for clear running in the early stages of the home straight.

RACE 8– GILLIES CIVIL PACE (1720 MS)

Greg Fleming was cautioned for failing to notify Stewards of the tactics for Daylight At Dawn and The Last Chance.

Ozzie Playboy (Barrier 4) hung in and paced roughly for a short distance after the start.

Daylight At Dawn was held up for clear running in the early stages of the home straight.
