STEWARDS REPORT FOR MILDURA

Trainers with multiple horses engaged in any given race were questioned as to the intended driving tactics to be adopted

RACE 1 – EUSTON CLUB PACE (1790 MS)

The start time of 12.07pm was incorrectly advertised in the racebook.

PRIORITY BETTING - The start was delayed approximately 5 minutes due to the gelding requiring the farrier after losing at shoe in the pre race warm up.

RONZEL MICKY – Held up for a clear run rounding the final turn and during the early stages of the home straight.

KEAYANG CRIPPA – Pulled hard during the score up.

VILLAGE LOVER – Held up for a clear run rounding the home turn and during the early stages of the home straight.

RAINBOW RAIN – Held up and failed to obtain a clear run in a home straight.

RACE 2 –VERDE 2YO & 3YO MAIDEN PACE (1790 MS)

The start time of 12.39pm was incorrectly advertised in the racebook.

SUPER SUSPECT – Pulled hard early and middle stages. Hung in in the front straight approaching the winning post with one lap to travel. Hung in again leaving the back straight on the final occasion and contacted marker pegs. Raced roughly under pressure at the 400m and shifted out inconveniencing Rocknroll Knight. Placed on its last chance to race truly.

ROCKNROLL KNIGHT – Inconvenienced and raced roughly at the 400m.

PICK UP ELVIS – Raced roughly during the score up. Hung in shortly after the start and contacted a marker pegs and a warning was issued. Galloped clear of interference on three occasions. Driver Aaron Dunn reported that he intended to spell the gelding. Stood down until the completion of one satisfactory trial.

 

 

RACE 3 – RENOWN SILVERWARE PACE (2190 MS)

STEAL SOME TIME – Held up for a clear run during the early stages of the home straight.

TACT TORY – Late scratching at 9.40pm Vets advice.

NIGHT SAFARI – Pulled hard middle stages.

RACE 4 – MCDONALDS IRYMPLE & MILDURA PACE (1790 MS)

The start time of 1.50pm was incorrectly advertised in the racebook.

TERROROAN – Trainer fined $50 under Rule 273(6)(b) for failing to have the gear worn by the gelding correctly notified.

HARRY MCKINNIS – Hung in shortly after the start. Raced roughly under pressure rounding the final turn.

STONEBRIDGE STAR – Pre and post race veterinary examinations due to the gelding racing on more than 200 previous occasions with no apparent abnormalities detected. Trainer Luke Watson was cautioned for failing to have the gear worn by this gelding correctly notified.

RACE 5 – MARK GURRY & ASSOCIATES PACE (2190 MS)

GUYS BETTOR BET - Pre and post race veterinary examinations due to the gelding racing on more than 200 previous occasions with no apparent abnormalities detected. Inconvenienced and sulky contacted by Waitpinga Reactor rounding the final turn.

SURFIN AT MIDNIGHT – Hung in middle stages while leading.

DAYSIE BROWN – Dropped its right knee boot during the early stages.

WAITPINGA REACTOR – Pulled hard throughout. Driver Ben Loades was issued with a caution for a lack of judgement after he failed to improve into the race in the back straight on the final occasion before being covered and then held up for a clear run rounding the final turn. Waitpinga Reactor gained clear running over the concluding stages finishing in 7th place beaten 17m. Stewards took into consideration Mr Loades limited driving experience and forthright evidence in identifying the error at the first opportunity. Mr Loades was further cautioned for careless driving, in that rounding the final turn, he allowed Waitpinga Reactor to shift out and contact the sulky wheel of Guys Bettor Bet. Waitpinga Reactor raced roughly as a result.

DARK SANDS – Held up for a clear run rounding the final turn and early stages of the home straight. It was noted that the deafening hood was not released until the concluding stages.

 

RACE 6 – BENSTUD PACE (2190 MS)

CLYMENTUS – Galloped during the score up resulting in interference to the trailing runners and a false start was declared. Galloped again as the start was effected and trailed the field throughout. Placed out of the draw for future mobile start races.

DAYLIGHT AT DAWN – Pulled hard middle stages.

HOT DEAL – Inconvenienced as the start was effected. Checked entering the back straight on the final occasion as Rio Rock gallo0ped.

RIO ROCK – Worked forward to race without cover in the one out line during the middle stages. Jumped a shadow entering the back straight on the final occasion and galloped. Placed on its last chance to race truly.

RACE 7 – WOODLANDS STUD PACE (2190 MS)

AUCKLAND LASS – Checked at the 700m while trailing Noosa Beach (galloped) and Robert Crocka on the pegline.

NOOSA BEACH – Raced roughly when improving three wide around the first turn before working forward to lead. Galloped at the 700m while leading, causing interference to several runners. Taking into consideration the geldings recent racing manners, Noosa Beach was stood down from racing for 10 days and until the completion of 1 satisfactory trial.

IMPETUOSO – Inconvenienced at the 700m.

ROBERT CROCKA – Checked while trailing Noosa Beach at the 700m. Hung in under pressure and contacted marker pegs rounding the final turn.

WHOS WATCHING LILY – Checked and galloped at the 700m.

KUHIO CREST – Checked and galloped at the 700m.

SUNSHINE WARRIOR – Inconvenienced and forced to race wider at the 700m.

LIKEABLE ROUGE – Galloped during the score up and will be given one last chance in the mobile barrier draw. Inconvenienced and forced wide at the 700m.

OZZIE DAYBREAK – Inconvenienced and forced wide at the 700m

 

RACE 8 – GBL PROPERTY MANAGEMENT PACE  (2190 MS)

NEDS BEACH NZ – Shifted out under pressure in the home straight despite the efforts of its driver and a warning was issued against the geldings racing manners.

SIANGDI – Inconvenienced at the 500m as Smart Guy galloped.

SMART GUY – Galloped clear of interference at the 500m and shifted out contacting the sulky of Goodtime Bravo. Taking into consideration the recent racing manners of the gelding Smart Man was stood down from racing for a period of 10 days and until the completion of 1 satisfactory trial.

GOODTIME BRAVO – Inconvenienced when Smart Man shifted out and contacted the sulky at the 500m.

OUR MASTER PLAY – Fractious as the field were called to approach the mobile barrier for the start. Kicked out and broke the dust sheet resulting in a false start and the start being delayed to repair the damage. Given the main reason for the false start was due to the broken gear, Our Master Play was placed on its last chance in the mobile barrier draw. Galloped at approximately the 800m as the pace eased slightly and was placed on its last chance to race truly.

DALLAS MIKI – Inconvenienced and forced wide in the back straight on the final occasion as Smart Man galloped.

 

RACE 9 – MAZZETTI PAINTING PACE (2190 MS)

The start of this race was delayed due to remedial work required to the track surface.

ROYAL WATCH - Galloped clear of interference as the pace eased slightly rounding the first turn. Shifted outwards while galloping despite the efforts of its driver resulting in the gelding contacting and stepping into the sulky of Im Alright Jack. Royal Watch became cast for a short distance before its right leg freed from the sulky. Placed on its last chance to race truly. A post race veterinary examination revealed the gelding sustained superficial scrapes and grazes from the incident and rub burns from the track on the right fore and hind legs. Also had sustained a cut to the left fore above the coronet band. Royal Watch was stood down for a period of 7 days after treatment was administered and until a veterinary certificate is received.   Inconvenienced at the 1200m as Miss Ballymena NZ galloped. Stewards intend to follow up with connections regarding the geldings recovery post race.

Trainer Alan Cronin reported that the gelding had recovered remarkably well with no major concerns to report. Mr Cronin added that given the incident, he would not race the gelding for a couple of weeks to ensure all superficial injuries were fully healed.

WILD CARD – Checked rounding the first turn and raced roughly as a result. Checked at the 1200m as Miss Ballymena NZ galloped.

IM ALRIGHT JACK – Severely checked and sulky contacted by Royal Watch rounding the first turn. Inconvenienced and forced wide at the 1200m.

AVOCA BLUES – Checked at the 1200m as Miss Ballymena NZ galloped.

MISS BALLYMENA NZ – Galloped clear of interference at the 1200m while leading. Galloped again while trailing the field at the 700m before being retired from the race. Stood down until the completion of 1 satisfactory trial. A post race veterinary examination revealed the mare was significantly lame on the left hind leg and had sustained a laceration to the left foreleg coronet band. Stood down for 7 days after treatment was administered and also until a veterinary certificate is received. Stewards intend to follow up with connections in the coming days regarding the mares recovery post race.

Trainer Anderw Vozlic reported that Miss Ballymena NZ was continuing to be treated and awaiting x-rays and will inform the stewards of the veterinary reports when available.

RIMU VALLEY NZ – Pulled hard and worked forward to lead at the 1200m after Miss Ballymena NZ galloped.

BRUISED EGO – Inconvenienced rounding the first turn when trailing Royal Watch. Checked and forced wide at the 1200m as Miss Ballymena NZ galloped.

ROJENBYE – Checked rounding the first turn.

ONLY ONCE BITTEN NZ – Checked rounding the first turn.

POWERSOFPERSUASION - Severely checked and galloped rounding the first turn.

 

RACE 10 – VALE MICK 'HUNGRY' HOGARTH #12 PACE (1790 MS)

JOHN MCLEAN – Shifted out under pressure in the home straight despite the efforts of its driver and a warning was issued against the geldings racing manners.

WATCH THE ATTITUDE – Pulled hard early and middle stages.

DIEING ART – Trainer Mark Thompson was questioned regarding the performance after the mare finished in last place beaten 18m. Mr Thompson reported that the mare was found to be in season which may have contributed to the performance. He also considered that many in the field where down in class due to the rating system and was not overly disappointed with the performance on this occasion. A post race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.

VICTORY GEORGE- Trainer Zac Steenhuis was cautioned for a late driver notification. Lockie Cook failed to appear in the racebook as the driver.

RACE 11 – ZILZIE WINES MAIDEN PACE (1790 MS)

DANNY RAY – Pulled hard early and middle stages.

GOODTIME SAILOR – Pre and post race veterinary examinations due to the mare not racing since August 2023 with no obvious abnormalities detected. Galloped clear of interference entering the back straight on the first occasion and was placed on its last chance to race truly.

TWO IN THE BIN – Galloped clear of interference shortly after the start and will continue to be drawn wide in future mobile start races. Raced roughly for a short distance leaving the front straight as the pace eased with one lap to travel.
