STEWARDS REPORT FOR MILDURA

Trainers with multiple horses engaged in any given race were questioned as to the intended driving tactics to be adopted

 

RACE 1 EUSTON CLUB RESORT PACE (2190 MS)

Golden Scribe & Good Onya both underwent pre and post-race veterinary examinations under the HRV horse welfare policy due to the gelding’s having started in excess of 200 races. Neither examination revealed any significant abnormalities.

Mister Pumblechook (Jordan Leedham) pulled hard during the middle stages of the event and had a tendency to shift out under pressure over the concluding stages.

A warning was issued against the racing competitiveness of The Mach Army (Dwayne Locke) which yielded ground from the 600m to be beaten 51.3m.

Andrew Vozlic, trainer of Fiftyshades Cresco ($2.50 fav) which finished 5th position beaten 26.2m after racing outside the leader for majority of the event was queried into the overall performance of the mare. Mr Vozlic contributed the performance to the mare racing without cover. As Fiftyshades Cresco is best driven with cover when unable to lead.

Jaccob Kerridge, driver of Eezee Street pleaded guilty to a charge under AHR Rule 163(1)(a)(iii) the particulars of the charge being approaching the 800m he permitted the gelding to shift out from a running line position into a three (3) wide position when insufficiently clear of Fortitudo (Kathy Watson) which was progressing three (3) wide resulting in the gelding being checked and racing roughly. In assessing penalty Stewards considered the relevant factors as outlined within the HRV Minimum Penalty Guidelines placing weight on Mr Kerridge’s guilty plea the degree of interference & carelessness which was assessed low range and his clear record in have 857 drives since his last offence. Stewards accordingly imposed a seven (7) day suspension of Mr Kerridge’s licence to drive in races which was ordered to commence midnight 10th June 2022.

RACE 2 THE GATEWAY PACE (1790 MS)

Only In Rome underwent pre and post-race veterinary examinations under the HRV horse welfare policy due to the gelding having started in excess of 200 races. Neither examination revealed any significant abnormalities.

Auckland Miss (Samantha Pascoe) broke gait during the early stages of the score up and was out of position when the start was effected. Auckland Miss will continue to be drawn wide in future mobile start events.

Luke Watson, driver of Gilardi reported the deafeners failed to release upon the gelding when attempted to be activated.

Frank Cavallaro, trainer of Gilardi ($6.00) which finished in 9th and last position beaten 69m was queried into the seemingly poor performance of the gelding. Mr Cavallaro advised the gelding to be disappointing and was at a loss to explain the performance other than the gelding may be better suited driven more conservatively. Gilardi will continued to be placed on its last chance to race competitively in not taking more action stewards were mindful the gelding was having its first start for a new trainer. A post-race veterinary examination was attempted however the gelding had been removed from the course.  

RACE 3 – MALLEE BEARINGS MAIDEN PACE (2190 MS)

Reality Player (Dwayne Locke) failed to circle a warning was issued against the gelding.

Casino Barry (Jordan Leedham) broke gait during the early & middle stages of the score up however was in position when the start was effected. Casino Barry will now be placed on its last chance in the draw.

Doc Harvey (Samantha Pascoe) was out of position when the start was effected. Doc Harvey will continue to be drawn wide in future mobile start events.

Casino Barry hung inwards approaching the 1500m despite the drivers’ efforts and broke gait checking Steal Some Time, Rock Ruby Rock & Doc Harvey resulting in Steal Some Time, Rock Ruby Rock breaking gait. Casino Barry will now be placed on its last chance to race truly.

Havelock (Cody Crossland) failed to gain clear running for the entire length of the home straight.

Andrew Vozlic, trainer of El Queso ($13.00) winner was queried into the seemingly improved performance of the gelding to its most recent starts. Mr Vozlic advised the gelding was having its third race start for his stable today were the El Queso suffered interference at its first start under his care and at its most recent start drew outside the second row and failed to race in a genuine manner when in a rearward position where today the gelding was able to be driven more aggressively from a front row draw and was assisted with the slow first half of 65.6 seconds and moderate final half of 60.4 seconds. Mr Vozlic added El Queso had been performing adequately prior to joining his stable.

RACE 4 – ZILZIE WINES PACE (1790 MS)

The start of this event was aborted during the early stages of the score up when Ellen Tormey, driver of James Charles indicated to the starter of a gear issue upon the gelding. It was established the back saddled pad had come undone and slipped out of position.

Harry McKinnis, Ultimate Trouble & Rocking Wroxton which were all beaten in excess of 53m were issued warning against their racing competitiveness.

James Charles yielded ground from the 300m to finish in 10th and last position beaten 67m. James Charles will now be placed on its last chance to race competitively.

Neil McCallum, driver of Rocking Wroxton ($5.00) which finished in 9th position beaten 60.9m after racing outside the leader from the 1400m was queried into the overall performance of the gelding. Mr McCallum contributed the performance to the gelding enduring work from the start while racing wide until obtaining the position outside the leader.

Andrew Vozlic, trainer of Tact Tory NZ ($1.80 fav) was queried into the gelding being heavily supported on fixed odds betting. Mr Vozlic advised the gelding had been racing well and was confident of a forward performance if able to maintain the lead from a favourable barrier (barrier #1) as the gelding was dropping in grade to recent starts which lead him informing connections of Tact Tory NZ that the gelding would be hard to beat in today’s events.

All wagering on this event will be subject to analysis. 

RACE 5 - PARK DOUGLAS PRINTING PACE (2190 MS)

Peregrineinflight underwent pre and post-race veterinary examinations under the HRV horse welfare policy due to the gelding having not started in the preceding 12 months. Neither examination revealed any significant abnormalities.

Peregrineinflight broke gait on two (2) separate occasions approaching the 1600m & 700m. Due to the gelding’s poor racing manners Peregrineinflight will now be stood down from racing until trialling to the satisfaction of stewards on one (1) occasion.

Cody Crossland, driver of Our Holla Star was issued a caution for easing the pace at the 1200m which resulting in Jordie Dee (Andrew Vozlic) Miss Twinkle (Ellen Tormey) & Union King (Jordan Leedham) which were all trailing being inconvenienced to varying degree.

Our Holla Star (Cody Crossland) hung outwards slightly approaching the 200m locking wheels with Mods (Ryan Sanderson) with both runner making heavy contact with each other before shifting inwards and locking wheels with Heza Western (Samantha Pascoe) causing all three (3) runners having to be pulled up to disengage. Oh So Easy, Jordie Dee & Miss Twinkle were all checked to varying degrees in this incident. A warning was issued against the racing manners of Our Holla Star.

Wayne Hill, driver of Rays Daughter ($2.60 fav) which finished in 5th position beaten 59.6m after leading was queried into the overall performance of the mare. Mr Hill advised the mare to be disappointing and contributed the performance to the added pressure throughout the event and the mare may be better suited to being driven more conservatively over the 2190m events.

In assessing penalty Stewards considered the relevant factors as outlined within the HRV Minimum Penalty Guidelines placing weight on Mr Crossland’s guilty plea the degree of carelessness which was assessed low range however mindful of his recent record under this rule in only having 19 clear drives since last offence under this rule. Stewards accordingly imposed a ten (10) day suspension of Mr Crossland’s licence to drive in races which was ordered to commence midnight 12th June 2022.

Union King underwent a post-race veterinary examination when the gelding slipped in the stabling area which revealed the gelding having minor lacerations. Union King received precautionary treatment and was stood down from racing for a period of five (5) days.

RACE 6 – LASER SIGNS & PRINT PACE (1790 MS)

Three (3) minutes prior to the start of this event the on course medical officials were required to attend to a patron in the stabling area. To allow sufficient time for medical officials to treat the patron and a second ambulance been required all remaining races were put back one (1) time slot with this event rescheduled to start at 3:33pm.

Lochster (Jacob Kerridge) raced roughly shortly after the start was effected. A warning was issued against the gelding manners.

This Is Bill & Southern Burgundy both pulled hard throughout the event.

Lovin Everyday (Jordan Leedham) was held up over the latter stages of the event.

RACE 7 – TENDERPRINT AUSTRALIA PACE (2190 MS)

This event was rescheduled to start at 4:13pm

Rocknroll Ronnie was declared a late scratching at 11:37am acting on veterinary advice.

Bernie Winkle NZ underwent pre and post-race veterinary examinations under the HRV horse welfare policy due to the gelding having started in excess of 200 races. Neither examination revealed any significant abnormalities.

On Wheels (Jordan Leedham) broke gait clear of interference approaching the 1900m. On Wheels will now be placed on its last chance to race truly.

Bernie Winkle NZ (Ellen Tormey) was held up during the early stages of the home straight prior to obtaining clear running.

Stewards refrained taking action against Abby Sanderson, driver of Amillion Promises for recording the first half of the mile 0.5 outside the required (64) seconds timeframe with the lead time recorded 1.5 seconds quicker than average.

RACE 8 – TANKARD DENTAL PACE (2190 MS)

This event was rescheduled to start at 4:53pm

Heart Of Cooper underwent pre and post-race veterinary examinations under the HRV horse welfare policy due to the gelding having bone fragments removed in both hindlimb fetlocks. Neither examination revealed any significant abnormalities.

Cemetery Bay, Bettor Star & Wilshire Boulevard all pulled hard during the middle stages of the event.

RACE 9 – TASCO PETROLEUM PACE (1790 MS)

This event was rescheduled to start at 5:24pm

Headbanger (Luke Watson) contacted its own sulky and broke gait clear of interference entering the first turn. Headbanger will now be placed on its last chance to race truly.

Blue Cannon (Jacob Kerridge) was held up during the early stages of the home straight prior to obtaining clear running.

RACE 10 – HAPPY BIRTHDAY DWAYNE LOCKE PACE (2190 MS)

This event was rescheduled to start at 5:52pm.

Write About Angus NZ which had drawn barrier #9 was repositioned to outside the second row after being placed ODM at Shepparton 7th June 2022 subsequently to the fields being released. An announcement was made to this effect.

Julie Douglas, trainer of Bet On The Tiger NZ was issued a caution for presenting the gelding in gear which had not been declared.

Bet On The Tiger NZ (Ellen Tormey) had a tendency to hung outwards from the 600m to the 400m.

RACE 11 – TAB LONG MAY WE PLAY PACE (2190 MS)

This event was rescheduled to start at 6:20pm

Fomo (Ryan Sanderson) broke gait shortly after the start was effected inconveniencing Ozzie Daybreak (Dwayne Locke). Fomo will now be excluded from the barrier draw in future mobile start events.

Egbert (Samantha Pascoe) pulled hard during the early & middle stages of the event.

Ryan Sanderson, driver of Fomo was issued a caution for half carting approaching the 800m.

Dontshowyouraces (Michael Gadsden) was held up late of the latter stages of the event.

Ryan Sanderson, driver of Fomo was fined the sum of $200 under AHR Rule 156(2)(a) for applying the whip to the mare with more than a wrist flicking action and with overt force.

RACE 12 – HORSELAND MILDURA PACE (2190 MS)

This event was rescheduled to start at 6:40pm

Shesa Pearla (Jordan Leedham) pulled hard during the middle stages of the event.

Robert Crocka (Ryan Sanderson) was held up late of the latter stages of the event.
