STEWARDS REPORT FOR MILDURA FRIDAY 8th NOVEMBER 2024

Trainers with multiple horses engaged in any given race were questioned as to the intended driving tactics to be adopted.
RACE 1 – EUSTON CLUB 2YO & 3YO MAIDEN PACE (1790MS)
MASON DIXON LINE – Slow to begin. Had its breastplate become detached in the later stages.
ANGELS WATCHING – Shifted ground when placed under pressure inside the final 100m.
DIAMOND KRUSHER – Hung in and raced inside the line of marker pegs at the 200m when giving ground.
FLOJOS BEST – Hung in when placed under pressure inside the final 150m.
MUSTANG DAISY – Held up for clear running until inside the final 100m.
BETTOR DOO NZ – Fractious and refused to score up, out of position at the start and trailed the field throughout. The gelding will now be excluded from the mobile barrier draw.
NORFOLK ISLAND – Examined by the clubs veterinarian prior to and following the event due to the gelding having not competed since 14 November 2023. No abnormalities were found on either examination. Pulled hard during the score up. Weakened over the final stages to finish in 8th position, beaten 50m. No action was taken.
DANNY RAY – Fractious during the score up for which a warning was issued.
RACE 2 - VERDE @THE GATEWAY MAIDEN PACE (1790MS)
SAYCHELLES – Gave ground over the final stages to finish in 8th position, beaten 46.4m.
CARLY PEREZ – Shifted ground when placed under pressure over the final stages.
OFF ME ROCKA – Inconvenienced at the 1400m when shifted wider to avoid KEEP BETTING which was restraining in advance. Weakened over the final stages to finish in 9th position, beaten 73.5m. A post-race veterinarian examination failed to find any abnormalities. A warning was issued.
MY ULTIMATE RUSTY - Weakened over the final stages to finish in 10th position, beaten 78.3m. A post-race veterinarian examination failed to find any abnormalities. A warning was issued.
RACE 3 - GET WELL PAT ATTARD PACE (1790MS)
IM ALRIGHT JACK – Unable to obtain clear running in the home straight and was not fully tested.
SIANGDI – Held up for clear running until obtaining a run to the inside of AMERICAN BOXER near the 100m.
AMERICAN BOXER – Raced keenly whilst leading. Shifted ground in the home straight which permitted a run for SIANGDI to its inside. At a subsequent inquiry, Driver Lochie Cook pleaded guilty to a charge under Rule 162(1)(www) for failing to take all reasonable effort from preventing his drive from shifting ground and this permitted AMERICAN BOXER an advantage when gaining a run to his inside. Mr Cook was fined $200.
CHOGI NZ – A post-race veterinarian examination revealed a laceration to its O/Foreleg which required treatment. In accordance with veterinarian recommendations, CHOGI NZ was stood down from racing for a period of 7 days (NTC).
SPRING DELIGHT – Had its sulky contacted by the galloping MEMPHIS BLASTERNZ near the 350m.
MEMPHIS BLASTER NZ – Pre-race blood sample obtained. Broke gait free of interference at the 350m before shifting out and making contact with the sulky of SPRING DELIGHT. Paced roughly when placed under pressure inside the final 200m.
RACE 4 - REMEMBER PETER MANOLAS PACE (1790MS)
TOO THE MAX – Shifted in and dislodged marker pegs near the 1000m and again near the 350m for which a warning was issued. Gave ground over the final stages to finish in 8th position, beaten 44.5m.
AMYS BABY ANGEL – Post-race swab sample obtained.
LA CAVALLETTA – Driver Zac Phillips was fined $100 under Rule 162(1)(h) for failing to come up into position by the starting point.
OZZIE DAYDREAK – Pulled hard during the score up and during the event. Near the 500m, inconvenienced when improved into restricted room between JAZZY MELEA and DRIBBLABILL which shifted wider and away from the weakening TOO THE MAX.
RACE 5 - VALE KEVIN NOLAN PACE (2190MS)
ROCKING WROXTON – Raced keenly throughout the event. At the 500m the shadow roll become detached from the gelding.
GUYS BETTOR BET – Examined by the clubs veterinarian prior to and following the event due to the gelding having competed in excess of 200 race starts. No abnormalities were found on either examination. Paced roughly shortly after the start and broke gait free of interference on the entry to the first turn. The gelding will now be placed on its last chance to race truly. Weakened over the final stages to finish in 10th position, beaten 51.6m. No action was taken. When questioned regarding the tactics, Driver Mark Riseley explained that pre-race his plan was to be forward in the run however, after beginning slowly and breaking on the first turn, he settled further back than planned. Mr Riseley stated that racing into the home straight on the first occasion, having noticed ROBERT CROCKA restraining, he elected to improve but was then beaten to this by DAYLIGHT which improved forward of his drive. Mr Riseley added that when improving to the outside of DAYLIGHT, that runner commenced to race keenly, and he was unable to muster speed to cross and therefore he was required to take his drive back to the rear of the field.
GLITZY ALL OVER – Gave ground over the final stages to finish in 9th position, beaten 45.1m.
DAYLIGHT – Raced keenly from the 1400m when positioned outside the leader.
RACE 6 - HAPPY BIRTHDAY VAL MORGAN PACE (2190MS)
RIVERGUM COUNTESS – A post-race veterinarian examination revealed the mare to be displaying lameness in its N/foreleg and was treated. In accordance with veterinarian recommendations, RIVERGUM COUNTESS will now be stood down until a certificate of fitness is provided and for a period of 3 days (NTC).
IMPETUOSO – Inconvenienced on the entry to the first turn when positioned to the inside of DAYSIE BROWN which shifted in.
DAYSIE BROWN – Driver Shane Smith was cautioned for tightening the room of IMPETUOSO racing into the first turn which contributed to the tightening to YOU LITTLE TERROR.
ROSTOVA – Raced keenly whilst leading. Failed to run on late in the event to finish in 5th position, beaten 6.5m. A post-race veterinarian examination revealed the mare to be displaying a slow recovery. When questioned regarding the performance, Driver Lochie Cook explained that his mare would appear to be better placed over the sprint trip and failed to settle in the run which proved detrimental. Stewards will follow up with connections in the coming days.
Follow up report - Thursday 14 November 2024
ROSTOVA - Trainer Naomi Kerr reported that follwing the meeting the mare has pulled up well and changes have been made to the gear in an attempt to allow the mare to settle in the run.
SIR VINCENT - Pre-race blood sample obtained.
YOU LITTLE TERROR - Inconvenienced on the entry to the first turn when positioned to the inside of IMPETUOSO which was taken in by DAYSIE BROWN.
RACE 7 - PARK DOUGLAS PRINTING PACE (2190MS)
General
The start of this event was delayed allowing a tongue tie to be fitted to DALLAS MIKI.
ROSCOS RESCUE – Gave ground over the final stages to finish in 10th position, beaten 48.2m.
DALLAS MIKI – Raced keenly during the event. A post-race veterinarian examination found the gelding displaying lameness in its N/hindleg which required treatment. In accordance with veterinarian recommendations, DALLAS MIKI was stood down from racing until a certificate of fitness is submitted and for a period of 7 days (NTC).
ONLY ONCE BITTEN NZ – Held up for clear running in the early stages of the home straight.
RACE 8 - MCDONALDS IRYMPLE @ MILDURA PACE (1790MS)
MODERN GINGER – Held up for clear running in the early stages of the home straight.
LOCH LOMOND NZ – Approaching the 300m, placed in restricted room to the inside of MY ULTIMATE LEVI before being checked when MAXY WANTS TO PLAY shifted out from its inside when not clear.
PRIORITISE – Checked at the 300m when taken away to avoid LOCH LOMOND NZ which paced roughly when being checked.
AINTSOBAD – Post-race swab sample obtained.
I BET YOU – Approaching the 300m, checked when taken in and away from LOCH LOMOND NZ which was checked.
MAXY WANTS TO PLAY – Driver Daryl Crone pleaded guilty to a charge under Rule 163(1)(a)(iii) for contributing to interference in that approaching the 300m, he permitted his gelding to shift out when not clear of LOCH LOMOND NZ resulting in that runner being further tightened to the inside of MY ULTIMATE LEVI and being checked in consequence. Mr Crone had his licence to drive in races suspended for a period of 7 days which was ordered to commence at midnight Monday 11 November 2024 and to expire on Tuesday 19 November 2024 on which day he may drive. When considering penalty Stewards were mindful of Mr Crone’s guilty plea, driving and offence record in addition to the circumstances attached to this incident.
MY ULTIMATE LEVI – Driver Boris Devcic pleaded guilty to a charge under Rule 163(1)(a)(iii) for contributing to interference in that approaching the 300m, he failed to take any reasonable effort to prevent his runner from shifting in and tightening the room of LOCH LOMOND NZ which was then checked as a result of MAXY WANTS TO PLAY shifting out. Mr Devcic had his licence to drive in races suspended for a period of 7 days which was ordered to commence at midnight Sunday 17 November 2024 and to expire on Monday 25 November 2024 on which day he may drive. When considering penalty Stewards were mindful of Mr Devcic’s guilty plea, driving and offence record in addition to the circumstances attached to this incident.
TWISTED BLISS – Checked at the 300m when taken away to avoid LOCH LOMOND NZ which paced roughly when being checked.
RACE 9 - CLUB MERBEIN PACE (1790MS)
JAXON BEACH - Pre-race blood sample obtained. Failed to run on late in the event to finish in 8th position, beaten 15.5m. A post-race veterinarian examination failed to find any abnormalities. When questioned regarding the performance, Driver Zac Phillips explained that despite the early use and being placed without cover, he was disappointed in the run and was at a loss to explain the performance. Stewards will follow up with connections in the coming days.
Follow up report - Thursday 14 November 2024
JAXON BEACH - Trainer Naomi Kerr reported that follwing the meeting, JAXON BEACH pulled up with jarring in its O/Foreleg and following an easy few days, the horse has returned to full work.
DAYLIGHT AT DAWN – Held up for clear running in the home straight and was not fully tested.
IMPERIALS REASON – Paced roughly when entering the first turn.
RACE 10 - ZILZIE WINES PACE (1790MS)
NOOSA BOY – Broke gait free of interference rounding the first turn. In view of the gelding’s recent poor record, NOOSA BOY was stood down from racing for a period of 10 days and until it completes two requalifying trials.
REAL DASH NZ - Pre-race blood sample obtained.
MAYTHEHORSEBWITHU – Broke gait free of interference at the 700m and was placed on its last chance in the mobile barrier draw.
RACE 11 - AUSTRALIAN PACING GOLD PACE (1790MS)
STEAL SOME TIME – Fractious prior to the start.
STONEBRIDGE STAR - Examined by the clubs veterinarian prior to and following the event due to the gelding having competed in excess of 200 race starts. No abnormalities were found on either examination.
OUTA CONTROL – Unable to obtain clear running in the home straight and was not fully tested.
THE TOOTH FAIRY – Held up for clear running in the early stages of the home straight. Driver Mark Riseley was placed on notice as to the manner he applied his whip in the home straight.
MISS DAPHNE – Broke gait free of interference on the entry to the first turn and was placed on its last chance to race truly.
