STEWARDS REPORT FOR MARYBOROUGH

Trainers with multiple horses engaged in any given race were questioned as to the intended driving tactics to be adopted

RACE 1 – DICK & JANET WHITE MEMORIAL 3YO TROT (2190 MS)

No racing incidents to report.

RACE 2 – WORLDS BEST HOOF OIL MAIDEN TROT (2190 MS)

The racebook failed to show Glen Craven as the driver of Aldebaran Damon.

The training partnership of Richard and Emmett Brosnan were cautioned for presenting the debutante Baltic Spirit NZ in gear that was not accurately recorded.

Baltic Spirit NZ galloped in the score-up at the first attempt and caused interference to Touchandgo resulting in a false start being declared. Baltic Spirit NZ will now be placed outside the draw in future mobile start events.

Atego Ada was fractious before the start, requiring the assistance of the Clerk of the Course before circling and a warning was issued against the mare’s barrier manners.

Mynamesgraham was out of position when the start was effected and will continue to be placed outside the draw in future mobile start events.

Aldebaran Damon raced roughly from approx. the 800m before pacing and breaking gait. The gelding underwent a post-race veterinary examination which failed to reveal any obvious abnormalities and will now be placed on his last chance to race truly.

Mont Sally was inconvenienced by Aldebaran Damon when that runner commenced to yield ground.

Touchango galloped under pressure approaching the 400m when attempting to shift Mynamesgraham wider on the track to obtain clear running. Given the circumstances, no action was taken against Touchango.

RACE 3 – COMMUNITY BANK MARYBOROUGH TROT (1690 MS)

The start time of this event was amended to 1.45pm.

Anne-Maree Conroy, trainer of Hammers Pegasus was cautioned for presenting the gelding in gear that was not accurately recorded.

Hammers Pegasus underwent pre and post-race veterinary examinations in accordance with the HRV Animal Welfare policy, having not started in a race in 12 months or more with neither check revealing any obvious abnormalities.

Jessicas Story galloped in the score-up, was out of position when the start was effected and will now be placed outside the draw in future mobile start events. Quake Proof which was drawn behind Jessicas Story in the score-up, was inconvenienced.

Hes Themightyspin pulled hard when leading the event.

Dealers Knock pulled hard at various stages while racing in a trailing position.

Watch and Act galloped clear of interference in the back straight on the final occasion.

RACE 4 – GARRY ANGUS MEMORIAL TROT (2240 MS)

Major Max galloped under pressure at approximately the 400m. Driver Jack Sullivan was cautioned for careless driving for failing to ensure that Major Max had been directed wider on the track after trailing runners Yankee Twister (Ron Wicks) and Could Dowitharain (Denbeigh Wade) were subsequently inconvenienced.

Could Dowitharain was then held up for clear racing room behind runners at the 200m and broke gait.

Barry Ainsworth, trainer of Baarlinee (winner at $71) was questioned regarding what appeared to be an improved performance from the mare, which was having her first start for the stable. Mr Ainsworth explained that the mare had been working well in her new environment leading up to today’s event and that he expected a forward showing. Baarlinee was detained on-course for approx. three hours for the purposes of post-race blood sampling.

RACE 5 - OLYMPUS FEEDS AUSTRALASIA TROT (1690 MS)

Aldebaran Belle NZ will continue to be placed outside the draw in future mobile start events at the request of connections.

Thebestbourbon was out of position when the start was effected and will continue to be placed outside the draw in future mobile start events.

High In The Sky NZ pulled hard through the middle stages of the event.

Silent Reverie NZ raced roughly and galloped rounding the home turn on the final occasion.

Meadowvalley Lover galloped under pressure and a warning was issued.

RACE 6 – NEWSXPRESS MARYBOROUGH TROT (2190 MS)

Lockie Cook was an approved late driver change, replacing Jason Lee on Six Nations.

Just A Bit Touchy began badly and will now be placed outside the draw in future mobile start events.

Everybodylovesme began badly then paced after the start and will now be placed outside the draw in future mobile start events. Driver Glen Craven was issued with a caution for dropping his right foot from the sulky footrest whilst the mare was in a gallop.

Namoscar was inconvenienced nearing the winning post with one lap to run when the leader eased the pace with Namoscar subsequently breaking gait as a result. Namoscar was then held up for clear running rounding the home turn on the final occasion. Double Helix, who was trailing Namoscar was inconvenienced and shifted into the sprint lane at the 1200m.

Sally Em was held up and unable to obtain clear running rounding the home turn on the final occasion.

Roi Du Soleil was held up and unable to obtain clear running rounding the home turn on the final occasion before utilizing the sprint lane.

Lochie Cook, driver of Six Nations ($8 and tired to be beaten 41.7m after leading the event) was questioned regarding the overall performance of the gelding. Mr Cook could offer no tangible explanation for the performance and conveyed his disappointment in the effort. Six Nations underwent a post-race veterinary examination which revealed a slow recovery. Stewards intend to follow-up with connections in the coming days as to the gelding’s recovery.

SUPPLEMENTARY REPORT - 3 NOVEMBER 2022

Kelly Stuart-Mitchell, trainer of Six Nations reported subsequent to the meeting, that blood tests had shown the gelding to be suffering from a virus.  Ms.Mitchell stated that Six Nations has been treated accordingly and will continue with the current preparation.

RACE 7 - MARYBOROUGH DISTRICT ADVERTISER TROTTERS HANDICAP (2690 SS)

The start time of the event was amended to 4.08pm.

Archleo underwent pre and post-race veterinary examinations in accordance with the HRV Animal Welfare policy, having not started in a race in 12 months or more with neither check revealing any obvious abnormalities.

Homonym NZ galloped after the start and will now be placed outside the draw in future standing start events.

Peakz Luck began badly and will now be placed outside the draw in future standing start events.

Stewards questioned drivers Greg Sugars (Tennerson) (10m), Michael Bellman (Archleo) (10m), and Chris Alford (Kyvalley Clichy) (10m) regarding an incident after the start where it appeared that Archleo and Kyvalley Clichy locked wheels, with Chris Alford then becoming momentarily dislodged from the sulky seat. Considering evidence from the three drivers, viewing the race replays and via their own observations Stewards established that Kyvalley Clichy broke gate free of interference after the start and prior to the incident, then shifted in and locked wheels with Kyvalley Clichy. Tennerson was inconvenienced after the start by Homonym NZ (FT) who broke gait after the start with Tennerson then shifting outwards simultaneously, to avoid Homonym NZ. Stewards could not be satisfied that any driver was solely blameworthy in the circumstances and noted the circumstances. Kyvalley Clichy will now be placed outside the draw in future standing start events for breaking gait after the start.

Chris Svanosio, trainer, and driver of Chief Runningcloud ($9) was questioned regarding the overall performance of the gelding who gave ground to be beaten 31.5m after leading the event. Mr Svanosio explained that whilst Chief Runningcloud was up in grade in today’s event, he was nonetheless disappointed in the gelding’s effort over the concluding stages. Chief Runningcloud underwent a post-race veterinary examination which failed to reveal any obvious abnormalities. Stewards intend to follow-up with connections in the coming days as to the gelding’s recovery.

SUPPLEMENTARY REPORT - 3 NOVEMBER 2022

Chris Svanosio, trainer of Chief Runningcloud reported subsequent to the meeting, that the gelding had pulled up fine.  Mr.Svanosio stated that Chief Runningcloud would continue with the current preparation.

RACE 8 - ALF & GLAD LEECH MEMORIAL TROT (2190 MS)

Elegant Jet broke under pressure at approx. the 250m.

Glen Craven (Stable Representative for Paddy Lee) was fined the sum of $100 pursuant to AHRR 273(6)(a) for presenting Elegant Jet in the parade ring in the incorrect saddlecloth number.

RACE 9 - VICTORIAN SQUARE TROTTERS ASSOCIATION COLIN & DOT REDWOOD MEMORIAL 3YO TROT (2190 MS)

The racebook failed to show Anthony O’Connor as the driver of Old Villa Boy.

Old Villa Boy galloped in the score-up and will now be placed outside the draw in future mobile start events. The gelding then sustained a flat tyre and was retired from the event. Given the circumstances, no action was taken.

Anthony O’Connor, trainer, and driver of Old Villa Boy was cautioned for the manner in which he conducted himself during a subsequent Stewards’ inquiry.

Queen of Quebec galloped after the start and will now be placed outside the draw in future mobile start events.

Queen of Quebec hung in and contacted marker pegs rounding the home turn on the final occasion, then raced roughly under pressure in the sprint lane at approx. the 150m.

Alfie Always pulled hard at various stages of the event.

Damian Wilson, driver of Spanomarli was issued with a caution for shifting ground in the back straight on the final occasion. Constant (Anne-Maree Conroy) who was advancing in the three-wide line at the time of the incident, was inconvenienced. Jungle Spider, who was placed to the inside of Spanomarli was inconvenienced when Damian Wilson corrected Spanomarli. In not acting further, Stewards noted that there was no contact between Spanomarli and Constant yet reminded Mr Wilson of his obligations when shifting ground.

Constant hung in rounding the home turn on the final occasion.

Spanomarli tired to be beaten 53.8m and a warning was issued for the beaten margin.
