Trainers with multiple horses engaged in any given race were questioned as to the intended driving tactics to be adopted. 

RACE 1 – JOHN ASHBY MEMORIAL 3YO MAIDEN TROT (2190 MS)

RASENGAN – Trainer Toby Ainsworth was cautioned for failing to correctly notify the gear worn by the gelding.

BILLYSOPHIA - Pulled hard score up. Raced fiercely during the early stages and contacted its own sulky wheels. Driver Arthur Lasgis directed the filly to the outside of the track in the back straight on the first occasion with the intention of retiring from the race for safety reasons. Mr Lasgis explained that the filly then stopped contacting its sulky wheels and he then rejoined the race at the rear of the field. Billysophia tired in the back straight on the final occasion to be beaten 227m. Given the overall performance the filly was stood down until the completion of 1 satisfactory trial. Mr Lasgis’s sulky was inspected post race and he was further advised to ensure his sulky is correctly fitted to avoid contact being made to the sulky wheels in the future.

CRESCO CASHFLOW – Hung in under pressure rounding the final turn and raced roughly resulting in contact to the final marker pegs prior to the sprint lane. A warning was issued against the fillys racing manners.

RACE 2 –MAX LEECH MEMORIAL TROT (2190 MS)

MUMSTHEWORD – Sulky contacted prior to the start by the trailing runner.

TETRA – Pre and post race veterinary examinations due to the mare racing on more than 200 previous occasions with no obvious abnormalities detected.

MACHO MAORI – Trainer Brian Kiesey was cautioned for his late driver notification of John Caldow. Not listed in the racebook as the driver. Galloped clear of interference at approximately the 400m.

MAORI FRANKLIN – Galloped clear of interference at approximately the 500m and a warning was issued.

BLACKRANGER GLORY - Pulled hard during the score up. Shifted out and contacted the sulky of Mumstheword then galloped and was out of position at the start. Given the recent barrier manners and in consultation with driver Michael Bellman, Blackrange Glory was placed right outside the mobile barrier draw.  Galloped clear of interference at the 1400m and again at approximately the 350m. Placed on its last chance to race truly.

 

RACE 3 – VSTA JOHN WALTER MEMORIAL TROT (2190MS)

TOUCHANDGO – Galloped under pressure over the latter stages and a warning was issued.

CAPTAIN GRAYWOOD – Raced roughly under pressure over the concluding stages.

YOU GOT ME GOOD – Galloped clear of interference at the 1400m and again at the 300m. Placed on its last chance to race truly.

SAN ANTONIA ROSE - Trainer Stuart Rothacker was cautioned for his late driver notification. Sturt Rothacker not listed in the racebook.

RACE 4 – VSTA CHRIS HOWE MEMORIAL TROT (2190 MS)

UNSPOKEN LOVE – Paced and galloped during the early stages of the score up. Out of position at the start and was placed out of the draw for future mobile start races. Trailed the field throughout.

SURPRISE TO ME – Inconvenienced as Zingara Lass commenced to give ground in the back straight on the final occasion. Raced roughly under pressure over the concluding stages and paced briefly. A warning was issued against the geldings racing manners.

TENSION SEEKER – Tired over the concluding stages to be beaten 60m and a warning was issued.

XIAOBO –Cast a front shoe during the pre race warmup. The start was delayed to allow the farrier to remove the other front shoe. Pulled hard during the score up and after showing gate speed the gelding galloped. Placed out of the draw for future mobile start races. Pulled hard and raced fiercely during the early and middle stages. Galloped briefly in the back straight on the first occasion.

PRIMZ LUCK NZ – Pre and post race veterinary examinations due to the geldings age and was cleared of any obvious abnormalities.

JAHBELLA – Inconvenienced as Zingara Lass gave ground in the back straight on the final occasion.

ZINGARA LASS – Pulled hard during the early stages and worked forward to lead in the back straight on the first occasion. Commenced to give ground in the front straight with one lap to travel. Gave ground rapidly in the back straight on the final occasion and tired to be beaten in excess of 200m. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any obvious abnormalities. Stood down until the completion of one satisfactory trial for a poor performance.

RACE 5 –ALF & GLAD LEECH MEMORIAL TROT (1690 MS)

CADENCE LANE – Galloped under pressure rounding the final turn, shifted in and contacted marker pegs then continued in a gallop to the finish. Given the performance Candence Lane was placed on its last chance to race truly.

ABBIE – Galloped clear of interference rounding the first turn and trailed the field. Galloped again at the 200m. Was placed on its last chance to race truly.

MAUDARCHY NZ – Galloped under pressure at the 400m.

ROMANTIC NINA – Pulled hard early stages and worked forward to lead.

THE VICARS GIRL – Inconvenienced at the 400m as Maudarchy NZ galloped.

CASA ALBERTA – Trainer David Van Ryn was cautioned for failing to have the gear worn by the mare correctly notified.

ALDEBARAN CAMPBELL - Trainer Brent Lilley was cautioned for failing to have the gear worn by the gelding correctly notified.

 MAORI DUCHESS - John Caldow not listed in the racebook as the driver. Tired to be beaten 56m and a warning was issued for a poor performance.

RACE 6 – VSTA COLIN AND DOT REDWOOD MEMORIAL TROTTERS HANDICAP (2190 SS)

ALFIE ALWAYS – Pulled hard early and middle stages.

NIGHT WHISPERER – Held up for a clear run rounding the home turn and early stages of the home straight before utilising the sprint lane.

DUTCH TEACHER – Held up and unable to obtain a clear run in the home straight.

ASTRO – Raced roughly as the start was effected.

SONARMI JOH – Galloped clear of interference at the 1600m.

YOU NO ILL BE LATE – Fractious prior to the start and was slow to begin, will continue to be drawn wide in future standing start races.

RACE 7 – VSTA VALE ALASTAIR MACLEAN TROTTERS HANDICAP (2190 SS)

TICTOK – Began badly and was placed out of the standing start barrier draw. Galloped clear of interference leaving the front straight on the first occasion and trailed the field throughout. Placed on its last chance to race truly.

HES THEMIGHTYSPIN – Began badly and was placed out of the standing start barrier draw. Galloped at the winning post on the first occasion and trailed the field throughout.

HERE COMES KYVALLEY – Began badly and was placed out of the standing start barrier draw.

OLD VILLA BOY – Driver Anthony O’Connor was issued with a caution for delaying the start after he continued to circle after being directed by the starter to face the barrier. Driver A OConnor was fined the sum of $100 under Rule 156(3) for his unapproved whip use after he applied the whip to his drive on more occasions than permissible over the final 200m.

MITCHELL WRAP – Began badly and was placed out of the standing start barrier draw.

WHOS THE MAN – Raced roughly under pressure and shifted in slightly over the concluding stages. Prior to the all-clear, Stewards confirmed the gelding had remained in its correct gait over the concluding stages.

INDEFENSIBLE – Inconvenienced by Mitchell Wrap after the start and galloped. Trailed the field thereafter. No action taken under the circumstances.

 

RACE 8 – KEITH AND ELAINE ANGUS MEMORIAL TROT (2190 MS)

COUNTESS CHIRON – Galloped briefly during the score up and a warning was issued. Inconvenienced and held up for a clear run leaving the back straight on the final occasion as Allwatfunjingles commenced to tire. Inconvenienced and force wide rounding the final turn as Aldebaran Marcus galloped.

ALLWATFUNJINGLES – Tired after leading to be beaten 77m. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any obvious abnormalities. Given the recent warning for tiring, the gelding was stood down until the completion of 1 satisfactory trial.

BAARLINEE – Inconvenienced and held up for a clear run as Allwatfunjingles tired over the latter stages.

ALDEBARAN MARCUS - Driver John Caldow not in the racebook as the driver. Out of position at the start and was placed on its last chance in the mobile barrier draw. Galloped clear of interference a the 250m.

RASTAMON – Pulled hard early and middle stages.

RACE 9 – RALPH FORD MEMORIAL TROT (1690 MS)

MONTANA MUSCLE – Galloped under pressure over the concluding stages.

SHIELD MAIDEN – Inconvenienced rounding the final turn as Brookies Babe galloped.

THAT OTHER THING – Driver Mark Hayes was cautioned for allowing his left foot to drop from the sulky footrest when reaching forward to remove the ear plugs with his left hand rounding the final turn. Inconvenienced rounding the final turn as Bookies Babe galloped.

BROOKIES BABE – Galloped under pressure rounding the final turn after racing outside the leader throughout.

COL DU GRANON – Inconvenienced rounding the final turn as Brookies Babe galloped.

KYVALLEY MUGSY – Well out of position despite the efforts of its driver during the score up and was placed out of the mobile barrier draw.

JUNGLE SPIDER – Pre and post race veterinary examinations due to the gelding not racing since September 2023 with no apparent abnormalities detected. Fractious and required assistance from the Clerk of the Course prior to the start. Out of position and trailed the field throughout. Placed out of the mobile barrier draw.

TINEY – Inconvenienced rounding the final turn as Brookies Babe galloped.

RACE 10 – ALF SIMONS MEMORIAL MAIDEN TROT (2190 MS)

BALLYANGUS - Hung in under pressure and gave ground rounding the final turn after leading.

MISS AVENGER – Began badly and was placed out of the mobile barrier draw. Trailed the field thereafter.

BRIDGETTE ROYALE – Began badly and was placed out of the draw for future mobile start races. Hung out while trailing the field throughout.

BACARDI LOVER - Driver Jim O’Sullivan was questioned regarding the reasons the gelding shifted in while leading and contacted marker pegs rounding the final turn then galloped. Mr O’Sullivan explained that the gelding became unbalanced under pressure and shifted in contacting the marker peg. Mr O’Sullivan added he was wary that the gelding would gallop had he corrected his drive out and attempted to maintain some balance however Bacardi Lover was under too much pressure and shifted inwards. Mr O’Sullivan’s explanation was noted, and a warning was issued against the racing manners of Bacardi Lover.

MYSTERIOUS PRINCE – Inconvenienced after the start and galloped. No action taken.

PROSPEROUS – Galloped during the score up and was out of position at the start. Galloped again after the start was effected and will continue to be drawn wide in future mobile start races. Galloped leaving the front straight on the first occasion and again while trailing the field during the middle stages and was placed on its last chance to race truly.
