Trainers with multiple runners in any one race provided stewards with their intentions prior to the event.

RACE 1  FAITH JEWLLERS PACE – 2190MS

EASTBRO CHRISSY – Hung out near the 700 metres and checked MAJORHOLENMYPOCKET which raced roughly and in turn caused interference to trailing runners. Trainer R. East advised Stewards that the filly had wanted to run out where the horses entered the track, despite the efforts of the driver. In its seven lifetime starts EASTBRO CHRISSY’S racing manners had not been an issue, however, due to the significance of interference to trailing runners, the filly was placed on its last chance to race truly.

CITY SIREN – Checked and broke gait near the 700 metres when MAJORHOLENMYPOCKET raced roughly in advance of it.

MAJORHOLENMYPOCKET – Checked and raced roughly neat the 700 metres when EASTBRO CHRISSY shifted out and made contact with the near side front leg.

TRUE BLUE ROSE – Utilised the sprint lane when it became available and was fully tested in the final straight.

MORGAN ART – Checked and broke gait near the 650 metres, which eventually resulted in driver R. Barker being dislodged from the sulky, due to race interference in advance of the gelding.

AUCKLAND MISS – Checked and broke gait near the 650 metres, which eventually resulted the gelding falling to the track and driver B. Howard being dislodged from the sulky, due to race interference in advance of the mare. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a minor laceration to the near side front knee, no stand down required.

RACE 2  METAL WORX FIRE, PLUMBING & SHEETMETAL PACE – 1780MS

Driver R. Barker (DANCIN WITH ELVIS) and B. Howard (SMART PLAY) who were both dislodged from the sulky in Race 1, underwent an examination from the on-track paramedics and were passed fit to take their drives in this race and at the remainder of the meeting.

IMAGOLDCLOUD – Obtained an inside run near the 900 metres when GIVE US A WINK shifted out as the field raced down the straight with a lap to go, the gelding was then tightened and contacted marker pegs near the 750 metres when GIVE US A WINK attempted to move back towards the marker pegs as the field raced into the turn near the 750 metres.

GIVE US A WINK – Driver A. Clarke was reprimanded under Rule 163(1)(a)(i) for crossing with insufficient clearance over IMAGOLDCLOUD as the field raced into the first turn. The gelding then had a tendency to shift up the track near the 900 metres, driver A. Clarke was not aware he had shifted to the extent that he had, and did not believe there was sufficient room for IMAGOLDCLOUD to move up on his inside. After reviewing the race replays and based on the Stewards own observations, it was determined that IMAGOLDCLOUD did have sufficient room to move inside of GIVE US A WINK, without using the sprint lane to achieve the manoeuvre. A. Clarke was reminded of his obligations with relation to maintaining a true line when leading.

GRINNING BEACH BOY – Inconvenienced near the 850 metres when GIVE US A Wink shifted out when racing in advance of him.

JOHNNY REDCOAT – As per HRSA policy for horses aged 12 years or older, underwent a pre-race veterinary examination and was passed fit to run. Had difficulty finding a clear run over the final 400 metres and was never fully tested in the concluding stages of the event.

HILLDALE SUNRISE – At the request of connections, re-instated in the mobile barrier draw.

SMART PLAY – Utilised the sprint lane when it became available and was fully tested in the final straight.

RACE 3  PICK AVENUE DELI & BAKERY PACE – 1780MS

TREACHEROUS SAINT – Driver A. Clarke was reprimanded under Rule 162(1)(y) for failing to adhere to sectional time requirements by running his first half of the last mile in 64.7 seconds when the minimum is 64.0. When considering penalty, Stewards were mindful of the quick lead time, the class/ratings of the horse involved and the small margin of error.

CLASSACT – Utilised the sprint lane when it became available and was fully tested in the final straight.

STAR WRITER – As per HRSA policy for horses aged 12 years or older, underwent a pre-race veterinary examination and was passed fit to run.

RACE 4  GAMBIER VETS PACE – 1780MS

LINE UP JACQUIE – Tightened and contacted marker pegs as the field raced through the first turn.

MASSIMO MILLY – Raced roughly for a short distance as the field entered the back straight on the first occasion, a warning was issued.

THE TRI LINE – Utilised the sprint lane when it became available and was fully tested in the final straight.

GOODWOOD – Driver Z. Steenhuis was reprimanded under Rule 162(1)(www) for allowing his runner to shift in and tighten LINE UP JACQUIE as the field raced into the first turn.

FIRE OFFICIAL – Utilised the sprint lane when it became available and was fully tested in the final straight.

RACE 5  HARPER & CO. BOUTIQUE PACE – 1780MS

CITYIDOL – Hung in after the start was effected, a warning was issued.

RACE 6  OGR CAR DEALERSHIP PACE – 1780MS

VICTORY GEORGE – Drive Z. Steenhuis was fined $100.00 under rule 162(1)(y) for failing to adhere to sectional time requirements, by running the first half of the last mile in 67.9 when the required minimum is 64.0. He was also advised he would need to modify his whip action so as to comply with Rule 156(2)(a) which relates to using the whip with a flicking action only.

MY PURPLE PATCH – Driver J. Finnis requested the gelding undergo a veterinarian examination at the conclusion of the event, as he was concerned MY PURPLE PATCH had sustained an injury during the event. Dr T Tully confirmed the gelding had pulled up lame and trainer B. Finnis was advised he would need to provide a certificate of soundness prior to the gelding competing again.

RACE 7  FAREWELL “MAJOR” THE CLERK HORSE TROTTERS HANDICAP – 2190SS

WSTFUL LADY – Broke gait free of interference shortly after the start was effected, a warning was issued.

UNSPOKEN LOVE – Led the event, however driver R. Barker elected to take a trail on the back of ALLURING TYRON NZ near the 1800 metres.

GLORIOUS FINALE – As per HRSA policy for horses aged 12 years or older, underwent a pre-race veterinary examination and was passed fit to run.

ALLURING TYRON NZ – Driver Z. Steenhuis was reminder of his obligations under Rule 162(1)(x) which relates to when leading, setting an excessively slow speed. Whilst there are no sectional time requirements for trotters, by allowing his runner to run its first half in 67.7, in particular, the first quarter in 36.0 seconds, this could be deemed and excessively slow speed and Stewards gave consideration to whether penalties should have been applied but elected not to on this occasion.
