ISLAND BLISS– Pre-race blood sample.  Caught racing three wide in the early stages until working forward to obtain the position outside of the leader passing the 1200 metres.  Stewards questioned driver H Rixon in relation to the mare’s seemingly disappointing performance in today’s event when failing to run on from the 400 metres to be beaten 55 metres and finished in last position.  Ms Rixon explained that trainer J Rattray had instructed her to try and drive the mare forward in an endeavour to gain a position on the marker pegs however shortly after the start when it became apparent that she was not going to be able to cross ORCHID STRIDE she believed that TWILIGHT HEAVEN was going to hold the lead and felt that she may have been able to obtain a position with cover in the running line passing the 1300 metres.  Ms Rixon explained that once ORCHID STRIDE was able to gain a position forward of TWILIGHT HEAVEN and gain the lead, she was then left in the position outside of the leader which did not suit her mare being only second up from a spell.  In view of the mare’s disappointing performance a warning was issued.
